Windows Vista Product Editions Revealed

WGA is a validation tool, not a subscription. I don't know of many Microsoft subscriptions, such as MSN Premium, being hacked.

What does MSN Premium offer that I cant get from another product?

Maybe thats why it hasnt been looked at to get cracked.

If that's really the price they are going to charge for an edition that is to be party geared towards students, someone at MS needs to be fired.

I won't argue that $500 seems high, but it really wouldn't surprise me if they did have it that high though.

I think the breakdown will go more along these lines, but speculation at this point is idiotic, especially OMG WTF BBQ I WONT BUY IT FOR $500, well calm down they haven't announced pricing and it won't be out for another year

Windows Vista Starter Edition - only offered to countries where computers are still a novelty

Windows Vista Home Basic Edition - $100 (same as current home)

Windows Vista Home Premium Edition - $150 or $200 (between home and pro)-- i suspect the former since it's basically MCE

Windows Vista Professional Edition - $200 (same as current pro)

Windows Vista Small Business Edition - $250 --if you read the description it references a "Professional Premium" as well, but that version isn't mentioned

Windows Vista Enterprise Edition - <-- I suspect this will be only available through volume licensing, so we won't be buying it

Windows Vista Ultimate Edition - $300 (since it's like pro + home premium)

Add $100 for the full version as opposed to the upgrade versions

I would also surmise that Enterprise edition will be the ONLY version with Volume Licensing, and that VLKs will be handled much better than the current way. Consequently I think pirating it will not be as easy as with XP (raise your hand if you are running a pirated VLK edition)

None of the prices in this thread are official/confirmed/true. Please stop posting prices to avoid confusion. These prices will problably be posted on some other sites as being the official prices...

It doesn't matter. The point is that it's a subscription web service. You can't "pirate" a web service. There is no way to fire up BitTorrent and download MSN Premium, for example, and there never will be.

What I was saying is that because a lot of the value-added stuff in Ultimate is going to be subscription-based, it means that people who pirate the OS will not have access to everything that makes Ultimate so good. y_notm got it.

for my needs, ultimate is the way to go. but seriously, 7 versions are too many. ok, i understand the starter kit, and the home edition, and the enterprise, and the professional.... but i think that they still should have stuck with the windows xp style of versions.

i guess the different editions of vista is for those who hardly use half of the stuff on windows and dont want to pay for the other half they dont use. why pay for things you dont want/need/know how to use?

Agreed?

Cry about 1 thing then ya get choices no people still cry

F'N pick one and shut up

Windows Vista Starter Edition - $50

Windows Vista Home Basic Edition - $150

Windows Vista Home Premium Edition - $200

Windows Vista Professional Edition - $250

Windows Vista Small Business Edition - $250

Windows Vista Enterprise Edition - $300

Windows Vista Ultimate Edition - $500

all of this is PURE SPECULATION!!!

All I want is

Windows Vista $150(upgrade/oem) & $200 new.

no home, no pro, no basic, no ultimate. :pinch:

the marketing monkeys at Microsoft need a kick in their balls

Windows Vista Starter Edition

Windows Vista Small Business Edition

Windows Vista Enterprise Edition

Thess will be not avalibe to most people, and i think small business, and enterprice, Will be same as pro actualy, with diffrent support number to ring up if you have problems.

Don't know if anyone has metioned this (to busy at the mo, to read all the posts), but maybe microsoft should add a page to their site, which asks you questions about your computer setup, and use, and with these answers, they can recommend which version to buy.

It would make it alot easier for people who don't know which version is best for them

pfft...it doesn't really matter how many version there are...I'm pretty sure most will go for Ultimate just because of the name and assume its the best (probably is). Pirates will definately pirate the Ultimate version. Hmmm...wasn't Windows XP PRO cracked in the first 15 minutes of release? Who wants to put bets on Vista?

Uh.... yeah. Even before this announcement and the announcement of hardware recommendations for Vista, analysts were predicting a rise in market share for Apple of 5% over the next two years.

In case you have been under a rock, Intel macs will support windows in a dual boot situation. The average Joe uses windows because they are not aware of other alternatives. A rise in prices, complicated/confusing tiers of OS editions and steep hardware reqs may cause these same average Joe users to look for alternatives.

A user can just as easily pirate Windows if they have a mac.

I don't think we should take someone with a Vista logo as an avatar too seriously.

Why did you ignore the part about MUI? Is it because you don't have a clue what it is or that you do not see the value of it?

I predict that Vista will have an even slower adoption rate than XP had in Corporations. I also predict that mad_onion will be waiting in line outside a store the night before Vista's release.

I use VS,VS.NET at work and we have IBM servers/workstations with Intel P4's in them but you don't see me with an avatar of any of those do you?

;)

i never asked to be taken seriously and no i have no idea what mui is lol :) all i can say is lets wait and see. cause i will be waiting to quote your comment of 15-20% loss in market share so i can laugh when it doesnt happen. its way to extreme and just.... never going to happen.

but i know you know loads more about IT than i do and dont think i tried to disagree with that. just you dont need any IT knowledge to see that 15-20% is crazy.

Ohh man.  I can't wait for the Windows Vista 7-in-1 CD to come out.

Haha... JUUUUUUUSSTT kidding. ;)

7-in-1? whats that? :p

Back on topic...

I was thinkin about buying a new computer soon, but now that I read that, I think I'll wait until Windows Vista comes out.  My computer will be fine until then.  They'll have some nice computers set up for those different versions.

EDIT: I dont know why, but now that I read it again, it doesn't seem very believable.  Not that I'm saying the thread auther is lying, but... wherever he got it from.

    • Not sure there is good value here.... the only real choice is 2GB w/ Controller since 1. 512GB would disappear fast based on today's PC game installs 2. Controller is back ordered until 2027. The appeal of playing PC games on TV (along with PS5) sounds interesting, but I am not too lazy to fire up the huge PC either. Not really sure this would be "worth" it.
    • This might work, but the boot menu F12 only shows hdd and dvd+/- and Niks In the bios all usb are enabled. the usb stick is in place and in the boot menu it does not show up in the bios boot order.
    • Because we were never offered a UFC game to review it in the past. Sometimes it's not a conspiracy, the reviewer does not even live in the U.S. and didn't ask for it.
    • Apple releases iOS 27 Beta 2 for developers and power users by Aditya Tiwari It's been a couple of weeks since Apple previewed the iOS 27 update during the WWDC official keynote. The upcoming iOS version will bring even more refinements to the Liquid Glass design language, an upgraded Siri AI assistant, and several new Apple Intelligence features. Interestingly, the latest WWDC keynote was different than previous years. Apple has released the iOS 27 beta 2 (build 24A5370h) for developers who want to test the new features being baked for the iPhone and optimize their apps. If you're interested in downloading the latest beta, go to Settings > General > Software Update > beta Updates, then choose iOS 27 Developer Beta. You can download the latest iOS 27 beta on more than 30 supported iPhones. Make sure you know what you are doing since developer betas can be unstable and unexpected at times. If you want to be on the safer side, you can wait for the public beta, which will arrive next month. It's been a while since Apple discontinued its AirPort router lineup. Now, the company said in the iOS 27 beta 2 release notes that the AirPort Utility is deprecated and won't be available for new downloads from the App Store. Apple added that if you previously downloaded the app, you can re-download it. However, the functionality isn't guaranteed when using the AirPort Utility on iOS 27 or later. Speaking of known issues, Apple said that the Portrait mode blur effect might render incorrectly for photos; you may be unable to stop an alarm from the lock screen without unlocking your iPhone; the "Add a Control" button in Control Center edit mode might appear small or clipped. There are several new features in iOS 27 beta 2 as well. It comes with Neural Engine improvements for Apple Intelligence, including better performance when loading large models over 1GB. HomeKit Secure Video recordings are processed on-device and through Private Cloud Compute for video descriptions and search, when Apple Intelligence is enabled in the Home app. That said, you can also download the second betas of macOS 27 Golden Gate, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and other Apple operating systems.
