Paul's Wrong on Windows Vista Editions

Recommended Posts

20 Editions sounds a little stupid, no offence and all... Personally, I would just like there to be two editions. Home and Pro, to set apart the grandmas from the gurus. All these extra Media Center, Tablet PC, Starter Edition, are just trash... They're all XP Home or Pro (mostly Pro) with some extra plugins slapped on.

What's this talk of "everyone" crap.  So far just 2 users of about 14 that said this.  You don't see everyone saying this, do you?  Of course not.

You know you probably are right, you could just try to be a little less of an ass about correcting things.  Do you correct people in real life like this?  I sure hope not.

What's with your negative comments against other users without having anything to add to the thread? I haven't heard anything from you yet that I can actually learn something from, at least now the 2 people who brought up the issue about patching (including yourself) will know that patches are universal and not for each specific edition. Do you correct people in real life like this? I sure hope not.

Now to add to the conversation... it doesn't really matter how many editions there are. If there are 20, they will be very similar and it will just offer more choice to the company or user who needs Windows. Let's say there is two home versions... just get the one that makes most sense to you! If you need Media Center Edition instead, get that. For businesses, if there is a Small Business, Enterprise, Pro, Corporate, or other versions, the companies will know there specific needs and which edition meets those needs. It will never have to affect you as you will never have to make that choice.

Now if there is a seperate Tablet PC Edition and maybe a Power User All-In-One edition, they will be attracting a totally different crowd than the standard Media Center Edition, or the basic Home and fully featured Home Editions.

The average user will only need to make a choice between maybe 2-3 different editions at the most. They cant' just put enterprise level backup utilities or Virtual PC software into the Home or Small Business editions of the OS, as they take time to develop and thus the cost will be more as the needs are more. If you don't need a feature, then you don't even have to look into that particular Edition.

It is pretty narrow minded to say that "OMG 20 EDITIONS!!! I WON'T KNOW WHAT TO CHOOSE AND MY GRANDMA WON'T EITHER!" because the edition you choose will be between only a couple specific choices. It's not like the features overlap alot, it's just a few more items that only specific people may want in each different version, and the features just keep on building up as you go.

Erm, ok whatever. I was mocking him in the first sentence. Telling him to be less of an ass in the 2nd, but whatever, too bad I can't be the wealth of knowledge that you bring to everybody here.

It had everything to do with what he said. He made a statement like 20 editions will somehow make a difference instead of 3, to him.

What about that don't you get?

For the simple fact that when someone goes to their local store to buy a copy of Vista, there won't be 5 different home editions to confuse the hell out of people. That's one reason why too many editions would hurt Vista.

What does it matter to you?  Were you planning on buying multiple copies?  Or are you mad that it will a 20-in-1 pirate cd instead of 7-in-1?

Pro Developer(includes the gamer addition also for people that do game dev)

Enterprise... aditional tools to run say a limited server/domain and a little extra cool add-ins

I just really don't think you are in the position to flood the thread with garbage over the word "everybody" when the guy was just clearing up something that was confusing you and others, and possibly those who didn't post but had those same thoughts. My posts are always the same... I like to thoroughly explain my opinons of things.

Looks like you bit the bait

if there were less version that means ms can focus more energy into fixing the bugs in it. More version makes it harder to cordinate.

Uhh no that doesn't make sense.

The OS is exactly the same, the only difference between versions is either an extension (like Media Center, which is just a program basically, or Tablet PC), or else in the business versions you have some administration things and the ability to run a server directly out of Windows. Those are the only differences between versions, just one or two main features that makes no difference to patching or finding bugs whatsoever because the patches are UNIVERSAL. There isn't seperate patches for each edition, because there is so little difference they are the same OS with a couple extensions.

Maybe they are just taking all their products and making them variations of the name with "Vista" in it. Like a Vista Starter, Vista Home, Vista Pro, Vista Web Server, Vista Server Standard, Vista Server Enterprise, Vista Embedded, Vista Tablet PC Edition, Vista Media Center Edition...blah blah blah like all their current windows variants.

Ya, that's the whole point :p

What else would they be called?

I think you're the one p*ssed about the fact that there would be a 20 in 1 pirate cd instead of a 7 in 1 judging from how you come to this thread acting like an ass towards someone. The guy didn't even mention pirating in his post. You're the idiot who brought that up. So take the **** out of your ass and STFU and if you want to be an ass in all your posts then just take them somewhere else.

If you would of read my post and understood it I wasn't flooding the thread with garbage over the word everybody, I was mocking him because he was such an ass in his reply. He could of simply answered that patching wouldn't be affected, or something on a more grown up level instead of his 12 year old little comeback.

Umm, nothing very insightful in those comments.

    • I totally disagree. Very little good comes out of governments all around the world manipulating everything they can and usually the people are not the benefactors. What you say about being restricted and expensive sounds almost like the arguments against firearms and why banning them will protect people as if making something illegal somehow will prevent the criminals from having and using them. AI being far less mainstream could simply mean the average person will not benefit, but "big brother" and the corporations will benefit, which is almost for sure NOT a good thing.

    • "connect with audiences" is the most obvious corporate speak you can think of. I only bought Need for Speed from EA because it was the only racing game with cops in existence and I dig that. Now that they killed off NFS franchise, I have nothing to spend money on. EA is officially dead for me, just like Ubisoft which I've been boycotting for some 20 years now...
