Wow the memory stick thing is cool!  Imagine bumping memory up +1gig from nowhere!

I have to question the significance of this.

Using the hard disk as virtual memory is many times faster than a USB stick in a USB 2.0 port. Applications using "USB Memory" would screech to a halt.

I would think you'd want to do this with fast USB drives...

As in, those that are much faster than your hard disk.

There aren't any that are faster than an internal hard drive. Your transfer rate would be capped at 480 Mb/s including USB overhead. SLOW! This is a far cry from the multiple gigabytes of bandwidth you get from modern DDR memory.

Also, flash memory has a very limited number of reads and especially writes. Using the device as memory would cause it to burn out very quickly.
