Winning Powerball ticket worth $340M sold

SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- A Powerball ticket worth $340 million was sold in the Gold Rush town of Jacksonville, state lottery officials said Thursday.

No one has stepped forward yet to claim the largest jackpot in the game's history and the second-biggest in U.S. history.

Lottery officials said the ticket was sold at either Ray's Food Place or J'ville Tavern in Jacksonville, a small, historic town near Medford in the southwest part of the state. The store that sold the winning ticket will receive a $100,000 bonus.

"The winner can take the money in an after-tax lump sum of $110 million, or receive 30 annual installments of about $7.6 million."

Dang that's a lot of taxes. I'd take the anual installments. There's no way I could ever spend $7.6 million in one year. I always hear of big ticket winners of 20 million plus and they have all the money gone in less than a year. $20 million in one year! That's a lot of money to spend.

this is so ****ing sad.. i mean seriously, what one person needs 340M.. there are ****ing countries starving, and they give 340M to someone.. just sad.

Uh, you do know how the Lotto works right? I don't know if the Lotto up there in Canada is different or not, but down here, the winner gets taxed INSANELY. Out of that 340M, you can plainly see they will only get 110M or so in a lump sum, or 7.4M a year for 30 years (which works out to about 220M).

The Lotto isn't only there to give huge sums of money to people, states use it to fund Schools, social programs and lots of other things from the income.

I have no idea what I would spend that money on if I won it.  Oh but it sure would be a glorious day though.

they just waste it without thinking of future! idiots.

uou can see entire world wit so much money  and some just spend it on useless stuff ...

What ****es me off is the millionare senator who matched 5/6 numbers and won $1mil.  WTF.  Call me jealous but that's just wrong.

Well, while I don't like the fact that he won per se...he IS a regular citizen after all. He is certainly allowed to play the Lotto to support the school systems or whatever else. And he's certainly allowed to play the Lotto to win also :p

Well, at least he didn't get the jackpot :p I always think it should go to the needy, but you don't know where luck will strike.

So I heard the chances of winning the $340mil was the same as getting hit by lightning, or drowning in your bath tub! Talk about luck!!

Damn that's a lot of money. I'd take the annual stuffs. 7.6 million should be enough for a year lol? Plus it would protect you from spending it all to quickly on crap.

I doubt I could spend more than 2 million in a year anyway, and that 1 million just because I'd buy a nice house and car.. after that a few pc's and stuff can't be to expensive?

Tbh I'd take the 7.6 million, give 1.6 million to charity, spend 2 million on a big house and a good car and leave the rest in the bank.

Now.. i just need the money and my plan would work.

someone said above, you get taxed anyway. I would invest a whole bunch of it in shares and property. make it work.

I've always thought how cool it would be if some multi-millionaire just went out in the street and gave out like ?1million or even ?1000 to some random passer-by. It wouldn't make much diffference to the millionaire but it would make someones da:D:D.

Ah well back to the real worl:(:(

OOO Lots of money! I would buy a private island and 3 planes. Buy 20 servers, 3 cars, 8 super good comps, self-defense stations and a nice house all in one island. Then I would make a whole website that's spyware and adware free and host torrents and warez.

RIAA and MPAA won't lay a foot on my island without getting shot by drone.
