Valid point, BUT, there are cases where the nano hasnt been used -placed in some sort of coating/case and still there are scratches developing on the surface.

i would say its more of a manufacturing fault than cosmetic damage. Obvously previuos gen ipods also scratched-BUT that was after several months of usage- wherehas the nano looks like its been attacked by sandpaper in a few days. :pinch:

but i dont think there is any fault to apple at all. if they wanted to make it scratch resistant they would have made it out of titanium or something...

apple wanted to make the nano out of the plastic that it made it from, i'm sure when they tested it it scratched the same way...

like jester said, there is no where that it says it has an anti-scratch coating.

it's just how it is, if you don't like it don't buy one or return the one you bought...

No one ever said that Apple claimed it had anti-scratch coating. The point is, Apple has made a product that scratches with even the most carefull use. Try reading this: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...ost&p=586705580

Now with less the than 2-3 hours of use I already had scratches on it from where cotton had touched it and my thumb (not my finger nail because I don't have any finger nails long enough to scratch it).

If Apple thinks that scratches give it characteristic, then why are they denying it scratches so easily?

The point is you shouldnt have to protect it. It shouldn't scratch. Its completly unacceptable of how bad it is. I purposly dropped in on my bed as a joke and said to my friend, ahaha watch this is scratch it. Guess what, it did.

If this one just one or two people having a problem with scratches, you would make a valid point, however, this involves a lot of people so it has to be Apple's product and not the consumer. Also, their warranties do cover cosmetics in case you weren't aware.

apples fix to this problem will be sending out screen protectors to everyone that owns a nano...

It is a quality product.

It's the user's fault if it has full of scratches.

Because the Nano is slimmer, you should naturally be more careful with it and not shove it in and out of your pocket like your thicker bigger ipod. Use common sense. There are many covers for sale out there that will do just that, protecting your investment.

You scratch it, your fault. It's not Sony's fault you scratch the PSP. It's not Motorola's fault you scratch the RAZR V3, so why should it be Apple's fault if you scratch the Nano?

I highly douby everyone in the class has soooo many scratches that the screens are unreadable. And the iPod nano is a digital music player, with added functionality of clock, games, and pictures. Therefore if the screen is "unreadable" it still functions fully, ie plays music.

It's about time they filed a suit. Lawsuits will only make companies make better products in the long run instead of half-assed products.

lawsuits like this serve as a warning to manufacturers to provide a quality product.

How else are we going to get it across to Apple that we don't like being screwed? I mean, I see your point, so don't get me wrong. But it seems the only way to get companies to take their heads out of their own asses is to sue them.

how about do not buy an ipod?

scratches have been a problem with ipods since day one. not to metion one of the reasons it costs less than before is use of cheaper materials. people should recognize this, and a company is not going to just come out with a lower priced product for the hell of it.

normally, im the first to jump up and bash Apple, but seriously, its something you keep in your pocket. do you complain when your cell phone gets scratched? no! you put it in a case to protect it. such should be the case with the nanos. 2 of my friends have one and they dont have them in cases and dont have one scratch. if you take care of it, then you will be fine.

i will however put some of the blame on apple here... they are so hell bent on advertising the hell out of their mp3 player in order to take over the market, but they failed to realize that the more of these things you sell, the more likely you are to sell it to a jackass who doesnt take care of their things and wants money or a replacement when they break it.

That's stupid. I don't pay the extra money for the iPod for it to just play music. Otherwise I wouldn't have purchased something else :rolleyes: I won't and can't argue that not everyone in this class action lawsuit doesn't have so many scratches that the screen is unreadable, however, the iPod nano has only been out for a little over a month and it already has more scratches then what all of my other four iPods put together--that's a huge concern. In another month there will be more if I continue to use it (which I haven't for the purposes of trial--in fact, I haven't taken it out of the box since Apple returned it to me).

The iPod nano serves more then one purpose, there it is NOT fully functional!

My cell phone doesn't have a single scratch on it and I always keep it in my pocket unprotected and I've also had it for 2 years and some odd months now. I put nothing else in that pocket, which is exactly how I treat my other iPods and this one as well.

I don't understand why a lawsuit is necessary - a lot of plastic products scratch; that's life. My friend's HP laptop has scratches all over it but he's never taken it out of his house - and he's certainly never put it in his pocket :p I also believe this is only an isolated issue - I've seen nano's in electronics stores on display; a lot of people have picked them up and used them, but they only have fingerprints and a few minor scratches on them - and yes, they are the black models.

And about those claims that nano's scratch in empty pockets: how do we know those people aren't making it up? They could of dropped it or scratched it deliberately. However it they are legitimate claims, I agree that Apple should do something about that.

Well, if you're lucky the shop would allow you to return it back for cash... I dont think there's any one company that does that... There might be a 30 day cash back warranty or something...

I personally would have waited for the iPod Video, instead of getting the iPod nano. What I have though is sufficient for playing mp3's. The iPod mini doesn't break as easily too!

well i have seen scratched ipods and then again ive been to the apple store and to target and seen their display models and they are scratched but the screens are very vibrant and easily readable. I think apple should start including cases like they did with their new ipods and perhaps replace nano's that are so scratched you cant read the screen but i mean they are made of the same material as the others so i understand why they are reluctant...

    • Apart from Early Hiccups on Windows 11 on first install on October 6th 2021 on my old Intel 10700 daily use Desktop PC at the time, used to have issue with Bluetooth suddenly no longer working and only fix back then was always another clean install--then would work for a while. Transition to 2024 when i decided to finally upgrade that system for better support for Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield 6 later on, opted for next daily use Gaming Desktop AMD Ryzen 7 7700X and Radeon 7800XT OC 16GB. No major problems at all with this desktop, OS was clean installed way back on 10/8/2025 not long after 25H2 released. Overall i've been happy with Windows 11 Pro from the start, even minor little quirks didn't sway me. Heck i even use Windows 8 and upgraded immediately upon release back then on my old HP P6-2133W Desktop, and while the specs of that machine didn't give me top notch performance--i still was able to do what i wanted to, without too many slowdowns. Windows ME i didn't use on any of my personal systems back in the day, kept those systems on 98SE til XP released, and grabbed that immediately on release date. Kept XP til Vista Released then upgraded immediately, kept Vista til Windows 7 released, then updated immediately again
    • Broadcom: dreadful company who is destroying VMware by pricing it out of the market.
    • To be fair, it wasn't going anywhere. Even when Windows Phone could run Android APKs, Google didn't want any of it so it'd never work and the same thing happened with Windows. It was never about the store or it's users, it was always the developers and who they aligned to.
    • Wake me up when this comes to PC. Until then... zzzzzzzz....
