I got warned for posting a Conan interview. Understandable... I guess.

Now how come I can remember when this person was warned and can't even remember when or why I got my 20%

Someone said something about how a mod can look up a warn history on a person? So could one of them tell me what it was I did because it's been driving me nuts that I can't remember since this thread started

I have a touch of OCD...seriously....I need to know :p

what's great is us brits can use swear words that the americans don't use or know what they mean, and the mod's don't do anything about it if you circumvent the swear filter with them

Not that i do

Yeah, but they aren't swear words anyway.

If I say, "I was acting a right dick" That isn't swearing, and it's not circumventing the filter.

If they _were_ swear words, then they'd be filtered.

One word that I cannot believe is filtered is the word ******. Ah, yes, pretty asterisks. Let me put it in a meaning that isn't used as a insult.

Bastardsword.

I once or twice tried to use the word bastardsword, and found out it was filtered.

I mean HOW CAN YOU FILTER ******!? :D

That was changed when I noticed that bastardization was being filtered.

As in "His prose was a bastardization of the english language."

It has legitimate uses.

I didnt even agree with my 20% warning, i know it'll go soon, and I know I won't get any more but when i got it, it was for putting a message in someone's sig but I did it from another forum, and it reacted it onto neowin which is my main forum and I got the warning but I left it about a week before looking at why and that then I was gonna reply back to the admin but i thought i won't get it took away because I took so long to reply as well

I'm now at 40% for 2 stupid reasons:

1)I made a topic for a request, which I never got, and because my friend made himself an account a neowin after I posted on the same computer to make another topic on the same subject (He wanted it too...). I replied to this warning but, hey, or this moderator doesn't check his PM often, or he's not very open for discussion, even if it's not my fault.

2)I made a topic about a problem on a...ahem, not very legal version of WB, well you understand...and got warned again.

But I didn't know it could become lower

I've always wondered why this is here:

"Help, requests or posts that discuss circumvention. This includes linking to illegally obtained software, movies & music files - posting about it, and suggesting to get it."

It's a bit broad, like... You could be saying "You should not be Pirating software" Technically, that is breaking the rule... Because you are posting about it.

you can also get warned by attempting to use binary in attempted humor, don't work so well, but I am touched people took the time to transplate it. Either that or they where LEET and translated it on the spot

586845151

Yes, I'll remember not to reply to you next time ;)

Hahaha,

Oh wow, my first reaction was to attempt and correct you, but honestly I don't know where to start. So I'll just assume you were kidding instead.

All hail capitialism!

586844083

I say you warn him while you're at it......

and wow...I've been her a year and some...with 5500 something post, 0% warning...its not that hard...:/

Members with a decent amount of posts 700+ should be treated with more respect than n00bs. Like get more chances or whatever.

586845402

No, everyone is equal when it comes to warnings regardless of how many posts you have.

If you have a lot of posts, we expect you to be a model member to the newer members and set an example of the community rules.

Radish?

I thought the staff area was all about manlove *sigh*  You've mislead me again I see...

586844231

So those model's your shootin' with for your portfolio are really guys eh? Well this has come as quite a shock, I must say!

On topic however, I've been here since for quite awhile, and have never been warned. It is rather simple, just be decent human being and follow the rules. If you can't manage that it's hard to see how you can make it in the real world. I've also only made like less than 300 posts in over 3 years. That is really, really sad. Almost worse than Chris' secret manlove problem. Almost.

I have to defend the mods here. I find that they are not too harsh at all. I had one warning level because I mentioned someone about circumenting activation for a product. I didn't realise it was bad because I did tell him it was illegal and that no one was going to help him find it but I got warned anyways. I agreed with my warning and let it go. I have yet to recieve another warning and for good reason. I know the rules of the forum and I follow them to my best judgement.

The mods do a good job. Without them, this board would turn into some childish flame fest where you could get child porn at a local torrent site by signing up 5 of your friends to a tower referal system.

Ive been warned twice for simply linking to the true source of something in a comment, after that I barely visit neowin now, Winbeta has just as much news without the crappy admins who dont give credit to true sources some of the time. Ill prolly get another warning because of my opinion in this post.

i got a 20% warning for calling someone an "idiot" after responding to their off the wall post, the moderator even agreed on my response after a friendly PM but said that hte warning must remain to be fair due to the fact that i did "flame" the guy. THis wasn't your typical fight, this guy was trying to start stuff and i was basically telling him to grow up and remove himself from the topic if he can't contribute. I'm glad to hear it will be gone in 6 months, i still don't feel its justified.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • NirLauncher 1.30.24 by Razvan Serea NirLauncher is a suite of more than 200 of NirSoft's excellent portable freeware Windows utilities, and provides an interface that makes it easy to find and launch the tools you need. Which works for us - because there's something here for everyone. Have you forgotten a password stored in your browser or email client, for instance? Recovery tools here may be able to find them for you. Maybe you'd like to check your hard drive health? A disk tool will display its S.M.A.R.T. data (if the drive supports this), so you can view read/ write errors, temperature and other useful details. Is your system unstable? The System Utilities section includes several tools that can help to explain why your PC might be crashing. And there are a host of other programs on offer in categories like "Network Monitoring", "Web Browser Tools", "Video/ Audio Related Utilities", "Outlook/ Office Utilities" and more. Please note, perhaps because a few of these tools can be used maliciously (the password revealers, say), some antivirus programs will flag them as threats. We've never had a problem with any NirSoft tool, though, and you can read more on this issue at the author's site. NirLauncher is an excellent set of free tools, and a must-have for everyone's portable troubleshooting toolkit. NirLauncher Features: NirLauncher can be used from USB flash drive without need of any installation. NirLauncher and all the utilities in the package are completely freeware, without any Spyware/Adware/Malware. This package doesn't contain any 3-party software, toolbars, Web browser plugins, or other unwanted surprises. It will not install any software on your system and it will not change your Web browser homepage or other settings on your system. NirLauncher package includes variety of tools that you may need for your daily computer use, including utilities to recover lost passwords, to monitor your network, to view and extract cookies, cache, and other information stored by your Web browser, to search files in your system, and more... For every utility in the package, you can easily run it, view the help file, or jump to the Web page of the utility. When using it from USB flash drive, the configuration of every utility is saved into .cfg file on the flash drive. On x64 systems, NirLauncher automatically run the x64 version of the utility, when there is a separated x64 version. NirLauncher also allows to add more software packages in additional to the main NirSoft package. NirLauncher allows you generate plugin files for BartPE (Launcher -> Generate BartPE Plugin Files), so you can easily use the utilities of NirSoft from a bootable live windows CD. Additional packages (Piriform, SysInternals...) and instructions are available on the Nirlauncher download page. Note: This zip file below is password-protected. • What people who support this position of LibreOffice do not understand is that EuroOffice is not made to appease the open source enthusiasts (I am also one) and evangelists. EuroOffice was made because some European companies wanted independence from Microsoft Office Suite, which is something installable on your computer. This move to independence was pushed by public institutions and governments in Europe, as well. Using a proprietary FORMAT as default, does not make you dependent on MS. The actual program does. A format can be changed with a simple update in the future in a dystopian world where MS would manipulate the format to lock others out. However, using MS Office proprietary format, guarantees that all the current documents used by companies, organizations, institutions, etc, will be compatible with EuroOffice and the suite will have the best chances at adoption, especially by slow moving organizations like governments and the public sector. It is as simple as that. For the same reason, even the UI is incredibly similar to MS Office. For the same reason (adoption) the choice was made to be open source. Not because EU particularly loves open source ideologically, but because it gives the best starting point to create trust in the project and amass developers and contributions to the project quickly, to catch up with proprietary projects like MS Office. I don't understand how people don't realize it.
    • How old is this tip? Seems 15-20 years old? Processor states for the CPU under Windows power options has been a thing for a long, long time. It certainly isn't new or hidden... Also, with laptops it doesn't make any difference what OS you are running, all of them are configured for battery longevity over performance, for obvious reasons. Wanted to add as well that most systems in use currently do burst as setup in the uefi bios settings, and usually when a setting is "hidden" like this in Windows it's because it's either obsolete or it is redundant--doesn't override the bios and the CPU drivers. There is a lot of crap in the registry that needs to come out...;) It's hamless and might consume 1-2kb of space in total, though.
    • I can't believe Starmer is still there...his party lost so big. He's a stubborn coot, but this is largely unenforceable, so I would imagine he'll be resigning soon. A key here is for parents to buy their kids phones sans Internet access--and set up the Internet at home, where mom and day can, you know, act like parents instead expecting the government to raise their kids.
