Nexus-
DONT use this build people. Stop.. If you download it, Read the NFO Thoroughly :) It has a dual boot issue with the potential of wrecking you're XP NTLDR and also theres some strange shut down issue. They are trying to stop using boot ini all together and 5259 was the first stage in it which is mostly why it wasnt released (November CTP). So yeah, install at own risk. :) Make Backups of Data if you are willing to gamble looks like you didnt read the nfo. it clearly states (and I know this works from personal experience) fixboox and fixmbr from the recovery console of your bootable xp disc will fix it once your done with vista. on the other hand I look forward to seeing the differences in the tap build :p Edited November 30, 2005 by divertom15 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/403462-5259-is-leaking/page/2/#findComment-586868906 Share on other sites

xxdesmus
Can't wait to install this (currently at 98%) ...there's a work around for the shutdown problem as well FYI: Type at the command line shutdown /s /f /t 00 not sure what the /s does, but /f is to force running apps to close and /t 00 is to shutdown immediately with 0 secs of delay Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/403462-5259-is-leaking/page/2/#findComment-586869992 Share on other sites

Hurmoth
shutdown /s /f /t 00 not sure what the /s does, but /f is to force running apps to close and /t 00 is to shutdown immediately with 0 secs of delay I would say that the /s is for shutdown because /r is for a reboot. xxdesmus
There are only 2 major bugs. 1. When you go to shutdown the computer, which should be the new "instant shutdown" it displays a garbled image and then goes into sleep instead. This can be fixed by simply going to the command line and typing "shutdown /s /f /t 00" 2. The other bug only turns up if you're trying to dual boot this build. And again, this is easily fixed by booting with your WinXP CD and going to the recovery console and typing a FixMBR and a Fixboot. Other than that, it's fast, it's pretty, and it has a lot of new stuff (IIS 7 is there, USB thumb drive as virtual RAM, Windows Mail, WinCal...all there and running quite nicely. mdtaUK
"fixboox and fixmbr from the recovery console of your bootable xp disc" Can someone explain this procedure to me. I am considering making a 10GB Partition to try this out, formatting and deleting the partition after I have tested Vista. I run Windows XP SP2 at present. lay_forat
but wasn't this one the buggy one? This is not the build that would have potentially been the Nov CTP (and was released to TAP testers). it has newer idx Windows Vista Build 5259.winmain_idx02.051113-2100 its working fine atm thanks to the Leaker  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/403462-5259-is-leaking/page/2/#findComment-586874078 Share on other sites

nomis_nehc
well, all things are eventual, including leaking. to me i think it actually benefits microsoft more than hurt them just because they can unofficially read some of the feedbacks from people, etc. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/403462-5259-is-leaking/page/2/#findComment-586874133 Share on other sites

Maleko
"fixboox and fixmbr from the recovery console of your bootable xp disc" Can someone explain this procedure to me. I am considering making a 10GB Partition to try this out, formatting and deleting the partition after I have tested Vista. I run Windows XP SP2 at present. when you boot from your XP cd, there is an option to enter the recovery console. if you go there, you have a bunch of simple dos commands that you can use. if you install this, you'll want to type in fixboot, then after it is finished running, type in fixmbr, then restart your computer and you should have XP back. If you do want to run this, I'm pretty sure that you'll need more than 10GB of free space to install and use it. as far as buggy, yes it is and some of the bugs are rather annoying, but people need to figure them out for themselves. as far as ruining booting, it doesn't put anything besides 5259 builds up at the boot screen, not even 5231. Many of the new programs are now working, although some mentioned previously in this thread were working in previous buids. It is very picky with it's hardware from what i've seen, and this is the source of some of the issues that arise. i've heard that the originally leaked build is not the one that you want to use as it has more issues with it than the one that was sent out to TAP persons. I really would stick with 5231 if you have it as there isn't much in this you can't get from 5231. mdtaUK
Well its duel booting fine for me, and I am amazed to find all the nice effects are running, I was sure I'd need to update some hardware... All I have setup is my ADSL modem, I managed to get it to install, so I can test out IE7, I copied the drivers from CD, then ran setup in Windows XP SP2 Compatability mode. From all the screenshots, I didnt realise all the little touchs in it, all the overlays seem to fade in and out, the start menu is semi-transparent also, and the glowing buttons, the shimmers on the glass windows move independantly from the windows themselves. I really dont like the titlebar going black in full screen, it seems to small compared to the restored size, and looses the shimmer, and seems incomplete. I havent dared touch the virtual folders yet, and because I dont have compatible RAID drivers, my 200GB drive with all my videos is not available. I also tried Media Centre, I will only be using it for my Xbox 360, so its not a problem yet. Just a few questions, as this is the first build I have tried out. Can you activate Aurora either as a desktop background or a screensaver yet, also on a hardware front, what would cause a graphics card to be unstable, a few games I play seem to shut it down, so I have to restart, Vista has done it a couple of times, but manages to reset itself? Kilgore Trout
Is it me or does the management console in this build has lot of bugs? I couldn't stop any service and i got some errors trying to disable some services. administrative tools' file assocaiation seems to be broken....which is annoying since the user created on install is locked down and I can't give it full perrnmisions. can't find turn off UAP either. so I switch the user to administrator, other than that its pretty stable, a lot less HD thrashing, and random lock ups Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/403462-5259-is-leaking/page/2/#findComment-586879256 Share on other sites
