AutoPatcher XP January 2006

Recommended Posts

I applyed it on a computer?

so what now...

dont worry about it, just remove it and replace with dec05 + jan06 update.

note with the new one, it might be worth reinstalling all updates that are detected as installed, because sometimes newer copies of an update become available and you want to be absolutely 100% sure youve got all the latest copies of files.

Damn I overreacted  , but just couldn't figure out what kind of sick jock was to put january 2005 full and let people download it

Even my friend was shocked

duhovi26uw6hq.th.jpg

Ha ha, :D

But now seriously : if I extract patches and put the in folder of december full, will they be loaded and applyed as well? along with patches from dec?

just delete the autopatcher folder, download and install dec05 full or lite, download and install jan06 update, run autopatcher, and install everything, even those detected as installed (blue), then youll be fine.

Hi folks!

I'm trying to download December 2005 Full for Brazilian Portuguese. I'm unable to use eMule or other P2P software. A member has post a file into Filefront server but this download always reset.

I wanna know if there is a SITE that I can download the file using, if possible, a download manager, because is to hard to download this file. In my job with have a 1 MEGA link for download and we still has not made this download.

Thanks!

Willian Lopes

(Sorry my poor english! :( )

Torrents may not be of much use for such a small file, however ED2k and Gnutella links might:

Just FYI - I usually keep a few versions past hosted via these two all the time... in addition to ancient versions like the pre-SP1s... My December ed2k/gnutella links are in the December thread too.

Hello, where can I find the patch related to the KB896984 issue ?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896984/en-us

I didn't find it into AutoPatcher XP.

Thanks for your help

896984 appears to be a hotfix. For this reason, I don't think you will see it in windows update, and therefore you won't see it in Autopatcher...

Hi.

Are you really not going to release a full version neither in jan06, neither in feb06 ?

Oh no !...

I would like so much a next full version ! When ?

And it seems you didnt included the december 2005 edition of DirectX 9.0c ?

Could you correct that ?

And another member mentionned a newer release of MSN 7.5 ?

Could you correct that ?

And you include both .NET 1.1, and .NET 2.0 ?

What for ? .NET 2.0 is the latest one, so it is enough, no ? Remove .NET 1.1...

But, anyway, it seems that some upadates and powertoys and tools and softs require .NET 1.1, and even if .NET 2.0 is installed, they dont recognize it, and they refuse to install ! How strange ! Could someone explain me that ? And how to make these softs get installed even without .NET 1.1 (because .NET 2.0 is already installed !) ?

You include both MSN Messenger + Windows Messenger : what for ? It is confusing, no ? The latest and best one is MSN, not Windows, so why dont you remove Windows one ?

Thanks.

Frederic Laroche.

PS : When a release in French Localized Version ? Could I do it myself ? What kind of skills it requires, and how long to do the translation, and also, where from to exchange the English Updates, with localized French Updates (is it possible ?) ?

Hi.

I desperatly await for an autopatcher-like full version for Windows 98 SE only !...

Would it be possible ?

Or I dream too much ???

Where to find such a cool thing ?

Because :

Windows 98 SE is still supported by Microsoft, and Windows Update still works for it !

But, only until June 2006 !!!

So, could you imagine, that from June 2006, there will be no more other updates for 98SE, than only from an autopatcher full edition ?

That's why I would highly suggest a release of such an autopatcher for Win98SE, from June 2006, because it will be the last ressource to keep this OS up to date, even after any re-install, after Microsoft stops updating it !

So, what do you think ?

Is it possible ?

I am free and ready to talk with you about to build such a tool you and me together, and we have time : it will be launched only after the limit date of June 2006.

Give me your feedback, please !

Frederic Laroche.

What I don't understand is - if the latest FULL (this month DECEMBER + JANUARY UPDATE) is all it takes to get up-to-date, how come the FULL files don't grow bigger and bigger? Shouldn't the size be ~ OCT + NOV + DEC or something like that?

The 'full' release does grow bigger every month - but there is no 'full' version this month. The full versions don't need to be installed ontop of a previous release, in fact they SHOULDN'T.

Hi.

Are you really not going to release a full version neither in jan06

no
neither in feb06 ?

That's up to the team to decide, we;ll see how many updates there are next month to see if it warrants a new 'full' release.

I would like so much a next full version ! When ?

Maybe next month, if there are enough updates to warrant it.

And it seems you didnt included the december 2005 edition of DirectX 9.0c ?

Could you correct that ?

Such things aren't included in 'lite' or 'update' releases, only in 'full'; wait for the next 'full' package or create your own module for it :)

And another member mentionned a newer release of MSN 7.5 ?

Could you correct that ?

same as above

And you include both .NET 1.1, and .NET 2.0 ?

What for ? .NET 2.0 is the latest one, so it is enough, no ? Remove .NET 1.1...

the .NET framework versions 1.1 and 2.0 are separate programs

You include both MSN Messenger + Windows Messenger : what for ? It is confusing, no ? The latest and best one is MSN, not Windows, so why dont you remove Windows one ?

Same reason as the .NET framework :)

PS : When a release in French Localized Version ? Could I do it myself ? What kind of skills it requires, and how long to do the translation, and also, where from to exchange the English Updates, with localized French Updates (is it possible ?) ?

I'm afraid this has been suggested before, but cannot be done due to technical reasons beyon our control. One of which being the fact that a reboot is required after every update is applied.

QUOTE :

Do you mean .NET 2.0 is not backward compatible with .NET 1.1 ?

2.0 does not include 1.1 ?

So, we should install both on our systems ?

Even in 98 or 2000 or XP ?

There is something I dont get it...

AUTOPATCHER FOR WIN98SE :

I'm afraid this has been suggested before, but cannot be done due to technical reasons beyon our control. One of which being the fact that a reboot is required after every update is applied.

Look at Windows Update : first it downloads all updates in a temp folder named "WU", and then it installs automatically everything with only 1 reboot ! And then the "WU" folder is emptied !

How can they do such a thing with 98SE : only 1 reboot ?

Couldnt we do the same ?

Otherwise we could build a script that decompress all the updates in a TEMP folder + 1 script that will lauches all the updates in the right order, and by forcing windows to reboot after each update, and then by putting a shortcut in the startup folder, at each reboot windows will continue the script, and the script will keep a track on a temp log file about what update has been installed and what is next to install. After finishing, the script delete the shortcut from the startup, and delete the TEMP folder, and delete itself.

So, then, what do think about that ?

I can tell you that I have already done such a script a few years ago for WinNT, to automatically patch it and setup many tools, from a cd, and my cd was doing everything : deleting the partitions, rebuilding the partitions, formating them, installing the OS (without SP4), and then with a .REG included in my msbatch.inf, I was automatically updating to SP4, from my cd, and before installing the OS, I was checking the NIC PCI CODE under DOS, and I was copying in the WINNT_004 TEMP Install folder the correct folder with the correct driver for the correct NIC that was there, and then just before launching the setup, I was merging the correct text lines to my msbatch.inf, so that the setup automatically installs the correct NIC driver, and also with an IP address, and after installation was finished, I was putting a shortcut to a script stored in my CD in the startup, and all the Updates + Tools + Settings Process was launched automatically, including managing many reboots, after having set an automatic logon of "administrator", and even accessing a network server, for copying some files customized for every single pc, to install automatically a special certificate in IE, in a Java page that was really difficult to be scripted (but I found a way, yeah !) !!!

So, you see, maybe we could work about how to make such a Process to auto-update Win98SE, you and me ?

What do you think ?

Thanks.

hmm, well I'm not 100% sure on why it doesn't work, all I know is that it doesn't. Search this forum and you'll probably find more info.

Thanx for the answer :)

And I'll use updates from now on unless it's on a fresh installation of Windows - sounds like that's best ;)

    • OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT memory by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, making the system more capable, current, and scalable across long-term use. Memory allows ChatGPT to remember useful details about users, including their preferences, projects, and constraints. Instead of starting every conversation from scratch, ChatGPT can use this context to provide more relevant responses in future chats. OpenAI first launched saved memories in February 2024. That feature allowed users to explicitly ask ChatGPT to save information into its memory, such as travel plans or writing preferences. However, this system had limits because it depended heavily on users giving clear instructions to remember something. Additionally, saved memories could become stale over time. In April 2025, OpenAI expanded memory by allowing ChatGPT to reference past chat context outside the saved memories list. This was powered by a background process called “dreaming,” which automatically curates memories from chat history. This made ChatGPT better at learning from natural conversation without requiring users to manually save every detail. Today, OpenAI announced a more capable and compute-efficient memory architecture built on top of dreaming. This new system improves ChatGPT’s ability to carry forward useful context, follow user preferences, and remain accurate as time passes. According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations, the new system improves factual recall from 67.9% in 2025 to 82.8% in 2026. Preference adherence improves from 55.3% to 71.3%, while accuracy over time improves from 52.2% to 75.1%. The best part of this new system is a new memory summary page where users can review ChatGPT's memories. Users can even update details, correct information, or give instructions on what topics ChatGPT should bring up and when. This new, improved memory system is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US starting today. It will roll out to more countries, as well as Free and Go users, in the coming weeks.
    • I work for a video production company in Australia. The camera operators shoot footage and then pass the SD card over to the editors. Much easier than handing over the entire camera. Plus, on a busy day you can hand off the SD card and then pop another in for the next shoot. Or, you might have used multiple SD cards because you need the extra space for a long shoot. I also use USB cables and wifi for transferring footage, but in many cases an SD card reader is the easiest method.
    • Microsoft Edge 149.0.4022.52 by Razvan Serea Microsoft Edge is a super fast and secure web browser from Microsoft. It works on almost any device, including PCs, iPhones and Androids. It keeps you safe online, protects your privacy, and lets you browse the web quickly. You can even use it on all your devices and keep your browsing history and favorites synced up. Built on the same technology as Chrome, Microsoft Edge has additional built-in features like Startup boost and Sleeping tabs, which boost your browsing experience with world class performance and speed that are optimized to work best with Windows. Microsoft Edge security and privacy features such as Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, Password Monitor, InPrivate search, and Kids Mode help keep you and your loved ones protected and secure online. Microsoft Edge has features to keep both you and your family protected. Enable content filters and access activity reports with your Microsoft Family Safety account and experience a kid-friendly web with Kids Mode. The new Microsoft Edge is now compatible with your favorite extensions, so it’s easy to personalize your browsing experience. Microsoft Edge 149.0.4022.52 changelog: Migration to improved V2 architecture for Workspaces. Workspaces, introduced in Edge in 2022, allows users to create durable sets of tabs that can be saved and shared with others. In order to improve reliability and performance of this feature, the following changes are being made: Migrating data for saved Workspaces from OneDrive/SharePoint to Edge Sync service Removing the collaboration/share functionality of this feature For organizations who have disabled Sync through policy, the existing v1 Workspace data will still be migrated to the new architecture. New v2 Workspaces created after migration won't sync across devices and will remain local to each device. This update occurs on a progressive rollout beginning in Edge Stable v145 and will continue rolling out in Edge v149. For more information, see Getting started with Microsoft Edge Workspaces. Feature Updates Passkey Sync for Enterprise Users. Microsoft Edge is introducing support for passkey synchronization for enterprise users, enabling secure, passwordless authentication across devices. Passkeys created in Edge can now be synced seamlessly, improving sign-in experience while maintaining strong security standards. Note: This is a controlled feature rollout. If you don't see this change, check back as we continue the rollout. Enterprise WebView2 runtime downgrade via DowngradeVersion policy. Administrators can temporarily roll back specific applications to a previous WebView2 Evergreen Runtime version (N-1 or N-2) using the new DowngradeVersion policy in msedgewebview2.admx. The Downgrade Version policy allows enterprises to mitigate critical regressions by specifying per-application exe-to-version mappings. The Edge Updater installs the target version side-by-side, and the WebView2 Loader redirects targeted apps accordingly. Downgrades auto-expire with each new WebView2 release: apps pinned to N-1 remain on the same version (now becoming N-2) and will auto-update in the next release, while apps pinned to N-2 will revert to the current Evergreen version. The policy applies only to enterprise-managed devices (domain-joined or MDM-enrolled). For more information, see Microsoft Edge WebView2 Policy Documentation | Microsoft Learn. Collections retirement. Collections has been removed in this update. Users can no longer access or use the feature. To keep saved content, users can export it, or move all pages to Favorites before updating to Microsoft Edge Stable 149. For more information, see Organize your ideas with Collections in Microsoft Edge - Microsoft Support. Modern, unified, and updated Look and Feel. Microsoft Edge has updated the Look and Feel to give customers a unified experience across all of Microsoft AI surfaces including Copilot and Bing. This changes multiple elements of the UX such as spacing, corners, fonts, default colors, etc. Clarify choices surrounding third-party cookie settings. Language under Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies are clarified to better describe the choices users have in managing third-party cookies. Custom primary password retirement. Users are no longer able to create a new custom primary password in Edge Settings edge://settings/autofill/passwords/settings. Any users who are still using a custom primary password will be automatically migrated to device authentication. Additionally, the PrimaryPasswordSetting policy will no longer support the WithCustomPrimaryPassword option. For more information, see Keep your saved passwords private in Microsoft Edge | Microsoft Support. Unifying Copilot Chat policy controls. The Microsoft365CopilotChatIconEnabled policy is the standard for configuring Copilot Chat. Previously, this behavior was controlled by blocking the Copilot extension, either explicitly or by using the * wildcard via the ExtensionSettings or ExtensionInstallBlockList policies. Extension and sidebar policies no longer affect the appearance or functionality of Copilot Chat. Copilot address bar suggestions were also tied to extension policy settings. Starting in Microsoft Edge version 149, admins can use the CopilotAddressBarSuggestionsEnabled policy to manage this behavior. Intune MAM Protected Downloads.
