VGVL
I've been a Mac user since April 25th, I just never posted in this thread. :shifty: Specs in my Sig. :D I got no dead or stuck pixels, and none have developed so far. I can't stand to have a monitor with dead pixels. I test my PowerBook for dead pixels every week. I told the guy at my local CompUSA that I am going to buy a 20" AppleStudio when they are updated (The current ones are too old, and I don't need it right now so I might as well wait), but I requested to test the monitor in-store first for dead pixels until I found one that was flawless. He agreed, lol. :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/42361-neowin-mac-users/page/13/#findComment-2299861 Share on other sites

Southern Patriot
I am still killing myself today for not having bought the Combo Drive. Is it possible to change that? I know how to take my iBook apart, just, where the hell could I find the part >.< Let me tell you from personal experience, changing the CD drive (or the hard drive for that matter) in an iBook is a royal pain in the a**. I have been repairing and rebuilding notebook computers for years, and that has got to be one of the hardest models I've ever laid hands on! You nearly have to take the entire notebook apart to get to the CD drive. Then there's the little matter of getting the thing back together and it still working. Tried it on a friend's 600Mhz iBook last year, and I just about went nuts trying to get things back together again. If you are really inclined to do it though, look for a UJDA710, 730, or 750 on eBay. You should be able to find one for under $100, depending on the model (the 710 is usually around $65). Those drives work really well, and are supported by iTunes and Toast. The only problem is getting the faceplate from your original drive to fit it, but it can be done with a little work and some superglue. Guybrush T
Hi folks. I bought a brand new iBook 12" the other day, and I am thrilled with it. It's fantastic! Haven't had any problems with it so far besides the fact that my Combodrive from time to time is extremely noisy when I load something in it - I better bring it to the shop soon  Anyway, it's a great computer and I simply love it. mrelusive978
My new system is very similar to mrelusive's Only a tich better (in most areas, exception being he's got more vid cards???). I had everything pretty much maxed out as much as apple would allow. I also have a stock G5 sittin around :D Dual 2GHz G5 ? 8GB DDR400 SDRAM (PC3200:woot:t: ? 2x 250GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm ? ATI Radeon 9800 Pro ? 2x Apple Cinema Studio Displays ? Mac OS 10.3.4 Granted work paid for the system but it's technically "m:yes:uot; :ninja:Dual 2 G:ninja:in :ninja: I just upgraded to 1GB RAM (I'm usually using around 500Mb, except in Soundtrack.) Ordered the Radeon 9800 Pro Special Edition 256Mb G5 model. Am posting this from an internet cafe in London where I am on vacation with my wife for our anniversary. The iPod is exploding over here (you literally cannot go for 2 blocks without seeing and iPod 'dancer' poster) and there are many many Macintosh stores (the best being Micro Anivika). Went to Amsterdam last friday...amusingly enough, Mac stores outnumber PC stores like 3-1 down there...seriously there is one every four or five blocks. The only issue I have here is that I cannot find the Tactile Pro keyboard from Matias...guess I will be buying that ADB/USB adapter for my Apple Extended Keyboard II when I get back to the states on Tuesday (soft touck keys suck for typing with any real speed or gaming). --its hard to get used to these funky English keyboards. The keys aren't square, they slope to the left or right depending on the side of the keyboard they are on. A bunck of keys are moved. Not to speak of the fact that the home row bumps on the keys are on the F and J keys, not D and K... Southern Patriot
Not to speak of the fact that the home row bumps on the keys are on the F and J keys, not D and K... That's actually the "normal" place for them to be, under your index fingers, even on most US keyboards. I never have understood why Apple chose to put the bumps on the D & K keys on some of their keyboards (such as the keyboard on my wife's 7300). The bumps are on the F & J keys on my PowerBook. BTallack
So, I finally got sick of my desktop PC, so I decided I needed to buy a Power Mac to go with my Powerbook. Here's what I ended up buying used: Quicksilver 800MHz G4 1GB RAM 2x40GB Hard drives Radeon 7500 Video Card CD-RW Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 Wacom Graphire 3 6x8 Tablet Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Speakers (currently running in 2.1. :( ) I'm looking at replacing/upgrading the video card, sound card and the CD-RW first of all. I'm going to google a list of compatible DVD-RWs for Mac, and likely find a used PC Radeon 9000 and flash it. In case anyone's forgotten, my Powerbook specs are as follows: 12" Al Powerbook 1 GHz G4 256MB of RAM (Soon to be upgraded) 40GB Hard Drive Geforce FX5200go 32MB Video Card Airport Extreme Microsoft Intellimouse for Bluetooth Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/42361-neowin-mac-users/page/13/#findComment-2510626 Share on other sites

cerbero
Just got my new Mac yesterday, after selling my eMac last Sunday. This one's an 14" iBook G4 1GHz. I'm amazed at how quiet it is (never owned a laptop before :)). I'm a little irritated at the fact I don't have a small enough screw driver to remove the hatch in order to install more RAM (bought a 512 MB stick from another vendor). I'm gonna have to get one somewhere. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/42361-neowin-mac-users/page/13/#findComment-2542675 Share on other sites
