Man Sues Apple Over iPod Hearing Loss

Recommended Posts

My iPod came with the warning label over the screen.

"Music piracy is bad.. blah blah blah

Don't listen to it loud blah blah blah this label says you can't sue apple"

Most people would read it considering they have to remove it before they use their ipod.

It is true that you get a volume limiting version in France. However, the story runs a little deeper than that. The firmware is specifically targeted at EU iPods, meaning those in UK get volume limiting as well. This isn't a EU law, just a French one, but because there is a disproportionate lick-spittling towards one country in the EU, everybody else has to "obey" that country's laws. Lots of people complained that the european iPod wasn't loud enough (and on ipodlounge the vast majority of USians didn't believe them), and it was only by flashing with US firmware (which Apple would not supply, so you had to go the P2P route) that you could crank it up loud enough to drown out the engine noise of the bus you're riding in.

Which is another reason why I didn't buy the designer white-goods crap that is iPod.
