Opera 9 TP2 Released!

TAB PREVIEWS??? HOLY $|-|1T!!!

I figured AOL Explorer would be the first and only browser to use tab previews. I guess I was wrong!

Huzzah!

I mean I love AOL Explorer, but now that Opera has tab previews I will probably never return to AOL Explorer again.

Cool, didn't even realise it did that.

Yes you can.... Right click choose customize... Enable "Main bar", remove all buttons from it (right click, remove), then move all the buttons, including the address bar, google bar, by dragging it to the empty "Main bar", after you're done you can disable the address bar... Viola, you have the tab bar in the bottom :)

EDIT: Found video explaining it much better -> http://nontroppo.org/-/media/mainbar.htm

Thanks for that!! Its so simple when you think about it! Shame it doesnt work with roboform, i use that ALL the time. I dont really like the built in one. But heres a question..the passwords that opera stores..can they be saved and imported to another computer?

Not sure if it's possible... The data must be somewhere in there, but I have not personally found a import/export feature. Guess copying the whole Opera folder would work, in case you installed it with the option where all users use the same configuration, because otherwise I guess the features would be inside the documents and settings\USERNAME folder.

okay and when the final is out, just install it over c:\Program Files\Opera9 [let it overwrite] ?

When Opera 9.0 final is out, you simply install it over 8.5 or the older versions.

Installing betas/previews over final versions or vice versa is not recommended.

Ok cheers.

Its been a long time since i used opera. And now i know why. Any website that uses the rich text editor thingy majig..well it doesnt work. All i see is the html code in a text box. Whats going on?? :(

Well, GMAIL shows that rich text forms is working, so it definately works :)

what are tab previews and how do i use it?

Some other nice things in this version

Site preferences - Enable per site rules such as javascript, cookies, plugins (flash), etc

Content Blocking - My current list looks like this:

post-3488-1139308134_thumb.jpg

In address field: opera:config , opera:cache , opera:history , opera:plugins

CTRL+ENTER now completes an address by adding http://www and .com around the word you type.

I hope they also add the "tab-thumbnail - view" of all the tabs like IE7. It's a nice feature.

Opera 9 have some good changes and improvements. I like the change of Wand and also the Content Blocker.

hi, if this is what you are talking about then it already has it.

oh i see, it's not that great a feature is it? I don't see the positive side to it. I actually thought it was something like IE7's quick tabs.

Yea its not the greatest of features. I cant see how it will become usefull. A bit like widgets. I cant help but feel there are more "nifty" add ons than praticle features. But i might be wrong ;)

Pretty impressed.

Blocked content rocks. Popup blocker is better. YAY! No more search.ini editing!

Widgets are a nice fad. They gotta get more widgets. The calc mouse over is nice! BT is there and it works.

I hope they develop that tab thumbnail preview so you can actually edit the code as to how it looks, information etc. They also need to add a user configurable function as to how long the mouse will rest before the thumb comes up. I can see it getting more useful in the future.

Proud of their developments. Glad I made the right choice in browsers when I went to 7.54 many moons ago.

I love Opera, it's my main browser, and mostly all I use. I actually just uninstalled TP1, forgot I had it, then I just now installed TP2, hadn't had much time to test it out, but it looks awesome to me, of course it would :). I don't know if I'll like the widgets, but they're there, doesn't mean I have to use them. Also this may be just me, but Opera seems to be the fastest browser for me, I can go clear all caches, history's, cookies, everything on all browsers, and Opera still loads so much faster. I am on a 5mbps down connection too.

    • These features described above are good, but far from what developers like me was eager to get. And that main feature that developers will love it`s the ability to connect to LOCAL AI models running on Ollama. So if you have a beefy spec machine you can now use your own model 100% local inside Visual Studio 2026 18.7.0
    • Microsoft Teams is getting a controversial location tracking feature that users may hate by Usama Jawad Image generated with Microsoft Copilot Earlier this year, Microsoft planned to roll out a controversial location tracking feature in Teams, but following customer feedback, it decided to delay its release. The bad news is that the company has decided to launch it later this year, but it's based on roughly the same design that was shared earlier, which means that many users still have good reason to worry. Basically, Microsoft Places and Teams have received workplace check-ins via Wi-Fi. The idea is that if an employee arrives at the office and connects to their enterprise network, their profile status indicator will show them as being present in the office. For example, if you arrive at work, open Teams on your PC, and connect to the "Studio B" company Wi-Fi network, your Teams profile will indicate that you are present in "Studio B", as shown below: Microsoft says that this feature is basically a replacement for physical workplace check-in peripherals, it reduces the need to manually update your status, and it also enables co-workers to know that you're at work so that they can coordinate in-person meetings with you. IT admins can enable this workplace check-in capability at a tenant level, and users have the ability to control whether they want to enable it or not. Of course, all of that sounds great on paper, but naturally, many Teams customers may still have concerns, as they did before. This is because it enables your reporting manager and other members of the organization to track if you are at the office, when you arrive at the office, and where you are right now. This could be problematic for people who work in what they consider to be flexible work environments or hybrid setups, and this kind of location tracking could be considered an invasion of privacy. Microsoft has tried to alleviate some of these concerns by letting users know that they can manually set their location easily, which essentially overrides workplace check-in if they feel uncomfortable with it. However, that doesn't really solve the problem because your organization could enforce a workplace policy that mandates that this feature remains enabled. The Redmond tech giant has also assured users that this capability does not store historical data and is only a real-time indicator of location. Finally, it only generates a signal when you connect to a corporate network, which means that if you are working from home and connect your PC to your personal Wi-Fi, it won't broadcast your location to your employer; you will simply be shown as "Remote". Microsoft has encouraged IT admins to prepare for this change and begin informing users so they know what to expect once it begins rolling out later this year.
    • Wow, Microsoft IS cooking lately... This only shows that they COULD improve, they just chose not to for whatever reasons. That obsession with AI was destroying them from the inside out.
