Opera 9 TP2 Released!

I still don't get the whole widget thingie. If I want widgets, I'll use Yahoo Widgets, or something. What I would've loved seeing is some sort of extensions support. As much as I love Opera, I have to use Firefox, due to their Performancing and Imageshack extensions, which work so well for blog posting

Supporting ad-blocking by default will result in damnation from every content provider out there.

? But it already does. And I think it's powerful enough for most. I doubt many really need much more than wildcarded ad blocks that supports Flash blocking.

A bit surprised they included the Bittorrent search engine. Isn't this going to increase awareness of Bittorrent and what you can find to download. I think Opera is going to have to remove that or they could be setting them up for legal issues, no?

Bittorrent is nothing lillegal you know. The search engine is for legal torrents anyway, and there should be no problems with that.

Yes I know bittorrent technology is legal, and there are many products which take advantage of the sharing capabilites. But that doesn't mean that it can't be used for illegal activities and anyone can tell you the illegal outweighs the legal content.

Edit: "The search engine is for legal torrents anyway"

Really..

Let me ask you... Do you think you can find illegal stuff by googling too? ;)

Let's not turn this thread into an entirely different topic.

Yes you can use Google for the same purpose, but it still doesn't justify including BT or the search engine. Esp when Google isn't a file sharing program

But on topic, great release, can't wait for the fianl. Love the new preview tabs feature :D

Opera Show is a nice little add-in, not bloat folks because it uses HTML for Web presentations. Try it, go to:

http://www.opera.com/support/tutorials/operashow/

and press F11 for a powerpoint-like slide show. I guess this is good for students who dont want to buy powerpoint or download Openoffice. Now they need to include this in Opera mini for your USB pen so you can show the presentation at school if you dont have a laptop or the school doesnt have Opera.

They even have a generator for it:

What the heck is the point of having widgets if they're always on top and close when the browser does? I really hope they didn't spend too much time on implementing them...

It's a just a preview... They will most likely improve it until final. Possibly make them visable when hiding Opera (CTRL+H).

I'm seriously considering just using Opera rather than FireFox. The only thing stopping me is adblock for FireFox. Other than that I'm loving Opera. Just recently discovering ways to customize it like the search bar engines and organizing and adding a separator. heh.

I hope perhaps someday FireFox and Opera can unite and form Foxpera! Dun dun duuuuuuuuun

    • Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 PC case is now 33% off on Amazon by Ivan Jenic The Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 is currently $109.99 on Amazon, down from its original $164.99 list price. That's 33% off and $55 saved on this premium aluminum mid-tower case with a modular design. If you're upgrading your PC case and want something that doesn't force you into a rigid layout, the MasterFrame 600 is worth a look. The case is built around the Cooler Master's FreeForm 2.0 platform, which lets you reconfigure the internal structure according to your hardware. Magnetic side panels allow for straightforward adjustments, and the case supports everything from Mini-ITX to E-ATX motherboards without compromise. There's also generous cooling headroom. Four pre-installed PWM fans handle airflow out of the box. GPU clearance goes up to 410mm, and the case supports radiators up to 420mm with room for three simultaneously. Truth be told, this might not be the prettiest case on the market, but it’s highly functional. The aluminum construction keeps the whole thing lightweight despite its size, and the finish looks noticeably better than the plastic mid-towers competing at this price point. If you want a serious, flexible case that prioritizes function over flashy aesthetics like RGB lighting, the MasterFrame 600 delivers at a reasonable price.
