Opera 9 TP2 Released!

Uhh do you mean blocking ads by using a filter.ini or is there some new way I don't know of?

One way is to right click-> block content. Then click the ads or images you dont want to see "you will see a red banner saying "blocked" and click the done button and reload the page, its one way.

yeah, the new way with the block content. It actually works but it leaves a white space where the ad was.

I know there is a CSS file you can download and put in your style folder and I lost this file and I don't find it anywhere on the web, nor in the opera forum :/

Trashed Opera because it offers practically nothing based on Mac OS X technology, they didn't even implement Aqua properly. The way I see it Opera is a Windows browser ported to Mac OS X.

Opera uses a custom GUI drawing engine.

how can i enable autocomplete?!!

There is no such feature.

does anyone have the same problem I have by not collapsing blocked ads?

I guess it doesn't collapse them :( .

hi, if this is what you are talking about then it already has it.

How do you get that menu? I know that there is menu like that which pops up when you hold the right mouse button and scroll, however I can't seem to get the preview images to show up.

Found a new thing:

Right click a tab, "Lock Tab".

Prevents any tab from being accidentally closed! :D

AHHHH...I have needed this feature for so long!

I'm seriously considering just using Opera rather than FireFox. The only thing stopping me is adblock for FireFox. Other than that I'm loving Opera. Just recently discovering ways to customize it like the search bar engines and organizing and adding a separator. heh.

I hope perhaps someday FireFox and Opera can unite and form Foxpera! Dun dun duuuuuuuuun

Just go download yourself a copy of AdMuncher, the best ad remover in the world (and go about the means of...well...you know what), and you will never even have to mention the words FireFox AdBlock or Opera Content Filter.

Yes I know bittorrent technology is legal, and there are many products which take advantage of the sharing capabilites. But that doesn't mean that it can't be used for illegal activities and anyone can tell you the illegal outweighs the legal content.

Edit: "The search engine is for legal torrents anyway"

Really..

Hey, its not Opera's problem...that is B.Cohen's problem with the BT Search page.

BitTorrent is competely legal...now quit whining and go use it.

yeah, the new way with the block content. It actually works but it leaves a white space where the ad was.

Well this is what I've been doing for the longest: http://virtuelvis.com/archives/2005/01/ope...efox-extensions

There it shows you how to adblock for Opera but it still leaves an outline of the ad, which is kinda weird but better than nothing.

Oh and thanks for the info dolimite35 and Tokar! :)

How the hell do I disable the bittorrent part of it?

It doesnt even give me a choice wether i want to use opera or save the torrent file.

Tools options advanced file types tab or something like that. Uncheck that hide Opera stuff. Search for torrent, change to prompt.

Ah no, my favorite feature from TP1 is gone. :(

In the address bar, a star appeared after the page was loaded, just clicked on that and it would create a bookmark. But not no more... :(

Another thing, how do I import my passwords from TP1 into TP2?

i didnt even notice that...goes to show how much i used it...heh.

my best guess is that its still in the program, just gotta find it.

Go ask on the Opera forums... http://my.opera.com/community/forums/

Have to admit. Opera 9; for me, is a far better product that firefox.

Anyone who says otherwise is completely clueless.

untitled3hw1.th.jpg

why the hell do pages stretch so bad. and how come in ff and opera my download speed is maxed at 70k/sec but in ie7 i can go as high as 600 - 700k/sec on same link

try enabling the personal bar...(View - toolbars - personal bar)...and see if fit to window width is enabled/disabled.

I would highly suggest you bring up this issue over at the official Opera forums...

http://my.opera.com/community/forums/

The guys there eat, drink and breathe Opera more so than the users here, unless of course users here are those experienced on the Opera forums :). There are just more of them all bunched together at the forums.

The people at the forums there are very nice and would be more than willing to help you sort out this issue...or well...both issues.

I like this release. It looks like the latest versions of all three browsers seem to be borrowing stuff from each other. :shifty:

Two things that nag me about this preview version:

  • Widgets may seem like a good idea, but unless Opera is set to load on startup I can't see them replacing dedicated widget engines such as Konfabulator. They also shouldn't be set to be always on top by default. (Actually TBH I expected an extension system for Opera instead of some weird widget feature. I'm sure they'll turn more heads with an extension system instead of a widget engine.)
  • The adblocker should give me an option to block this SPECIFIC picture/SWF only, or block it as a wildcard. Say I wanted to block a particularly disturbing signature that is hosted in Imageshack, and I block that image. It ends up blocking all pictures hosted on that server (i.e. img250, img118, etc.)

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
