Nintendo Wi-Fi Approaches 1 Million

The magic number draws near, barely four months after the service launched...

Nintendo looks set to shortly achieve 1 million players across its Wi-Fi service, reaching the milestone figure in significantly less time then the 19 months it took for Xbox Live. Although there's little doubt the free access has plenty to play, it cannot detract from Nintendo's online strategy, which has burst past the figure within four months of launching.

With the number of titles supporting the service beginning to gain momentum, Nintendo looks to be in an increasingly solid position to expand the service onto the Revolution later in the year.

TVG will have more when Nintendo officially announces the achievement...

Well this is certainly interesting, free service wins!

-bYtE' date='Mar 7 2006, 05:46' post='587280522']I think Metroid Prime Hunters will boost those numbers significatly. :)

I think TetrisDS will skyrocket the number of users. It's Tetris, which probably used to be the best handheld selling game until recently. If you owned the original Game Boy you pretty much owned Tetris, even though some Game Boys were bundled with it. Still if you didn't own it you most likely bought it.

Absolutely. It will be a solid title for everybody, not just gamers :)

interesting to compare and contrast with XBL, but by no means are they the same. just keep in mind that situations were different when XBL started, and that it costs money as well. does nintendo wi-fi require broadband?

It's highly reccomended to use BB, but you can use Dial-Up on WFC.

EDIT: A Better contrast would be PSP Online Vs. DS WFC
