Vista Icons Pack v2.0 Ultimate - System Patch

Patch created by Kudesnick (resource files) and Aero from AeroXP.net (compiling and scripting).

Vista Icons Pack v2.0 Ultimate - System Patch will replace standard Windows XP to Vista icons! It modifys about 70 windows system files, including not necess big icon libraries as Shell32.dll, Netshell.dll and Wmploc.dll and many others. This patch make your Windows Media Player taskbar pane like in Windows Vista.

After installing you can go to Folder Options and change icons for some files, for example change it for PNG-image system file now include icon for this image format (see file ...system32\shimgvw.dll, last icon) or for MSI and MSP (icons for these file types you can find in Shell32.dll). Setup also will install Icon Cache rebuilder and will repair your system files after updating.

No more XP icons!

If you plan to use this patch in transformation pack, then contact with me.

This one will actually REPLACE your system files with alternate versions -- that is, these icons will become "THE DEFAULT WINDOWS ICONS" as opposed to the ones now. The only method of going back is either a) Uninstalling the pack, or b) Re-editing all of the DLLs, EXEs, CPLs etc, replacing them with the default Windows icons.

The one problem I have with these icons is the lack of support for greater-than 48x48 for most icons...I'd really like to have 128x128 icons on the desktop and etc, but I guess I'll just have to manually patch it.

During the install it names a program to type into run to reset your icon cache but I didn't write it down. What is the name of the program?

For those asking, during the install a folder is created named system_backup found in Windows. If you look in it you can see what files have been changed.

I found the way to answer the "Do you have IE6 or IE7 ?" confusing

Thank all of you! For the greate installer thanx to Aero from AeroXP.net

I think you talking about Rebuild.exe

I found the way to answer the "Do you have IE6 or IE7 ?" confusing

Why? Thats just because if you have WIE7 installed you don't need to change icons, they are allready vista-like icons.

All icons in system files are up to 48x because:

1) Windows XP doesn't use icons more than 48x (even you make icons on desktop 128x)

2) The more formats in icon, the more file size is -> the more system file -> the more your processor will be in use

    • Funny, but I didn't had the issue. All PC's at work are Dell and we had the culprit version of Support Assist for about 2 weeks until we got the new one. No problem at all. And for checking you can also use Dell Command Update, no need to search in windows settings. Just check the Upgrade History.
    • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Apple are scared of their customers! They have built a brand over the years of "it just works out of the box", but that slows innovation. Samsung's master stroke was the Galaxy Ultra: "Let's cram everything into one handset, make it so stupid only real nerds will love it, some of the features will work, some won't, but the audience will have such a high tolerance they won't care". Apple has no such device and so they are constantly worrying these days about the fallout of creating a new experience that customers might not like. I know it is often cited the reason they don't build a touchscreen Mac Book is they don't want to cannibalise the the iPad market, but I think it's equally cold feet after the criticism Microsoft receive trying to make a touch compatible desktop OS

    • So, an article that has nothing to do with Windows 11, still gets Windows 11 in the title and a build number as the picture? Dell have a buggy build of Support Assist HP have UEFI settings that need unlocking for the secureboot cert upgrade to take place.
