Global Warming Ended in 1998

According to my own analysis of temperatures recorded in Toronto from 1940 to 2005 (I have the full dataset if you're interested), I have found that the 5 warmest years in the dataset are, in descending order, 1998, 2001, 1999, 2002, and 1949. 4 out of 5 are in 1998-2005. Explain that! The average high for 1998 was 15.14*C. That's 1.04*C higher than 1949 (the warmest "pre-industrial" year). The trend in the average lows is even more amazing. From 1998 to 2005 in particular, there's a spike in the average low. Every year from 1998 to 2005 is above the running average. 1998 is as much as 2.24*C above average!

Not only that, I've personally noticed the effect of global warming on Toronto. It feels like spring comes earlier every year, and the summers are warmer. Temperatures in the 30's were unusual for the summer but now they are the norm. This winter was probably the warmest winter ever in Toronto. The lowest temperature I can recall was about -18*C. Normally there's at least one day in the -20's. January was probably the warmest. Toronto usually experiences a January "thaw" from the middle to the end of the month, but this year it was more pronounced than ever. Some days it just felt like Vancouver, not Toronto. There was no snow on the ground and the highs reached almost 10*C. I think the records will show that 2006 will be warmer than 1998. It's off to a good start so far :).
