Administrators Posted September 16, 2002 Administrators Share Posted September 16, 2002 After the long haul of finding an alternative host we can happily report that we found that here at www.MikeMTH.de The funding is based on the same idea we had with our previous host where banner ads will contribute to the cost of the server. This is a small price to pay for Neowins existence so I hope people will not block the ads or complain about them. We are located on a 1.8GHz AMD XP server with 1GB of Ram, we have RedHat 7.3 installed along with PHP 4.2.3 and MySQL 3.23.52. This is the initial setup, we have been assured that if we need more ram it will be added, if we need a more powerful server this will also be taken care of within reason. I'll be honest with you all, I don't know what to expect, when we go live we intend to further optimize the site and keep a close eye on things. There is talk of installing MySQL 4 but as that is in Alpha stage we are waiting to see what the best move will be for the site. To my knowledge it all works. I have updated post counters so some people might see fewer posts to their name this is because deleted posts are no longer included in your post count (over a long period of time this can mean alot) We plan to continue developing Neowin but with server being top priority right now its difficult to change or add new features until we are completly satisfied it all works. I also need to announce that Neowin is in no way affiliated with virtuanews or Tingle anymore. The reasons for this are personal and I would ask that you respect my reasons for not sharing this. One final note, I want to thank everyone that showed a lot of support by sending us emails we appreciate it very much and to all the people that offered hosting, donations and free Ice-Cream you all rock.. and to Mike for coming through with this server.
