PS3 2005 vs PS3 2006 - WYSIWYG

do you have a source for that bit? that goes completely against everything bluray has said...

with the 499 model (no hdmi) you should be viewing bluray discs at 480p.

Actually I am right, at least for Sony and Universal anyway...point is, the image constraint token is not going to kick in like everyone is being led to believe.

Wishful thinking there. :p

Er, no. I honestly believe that with the Xbox being $400, and then the add-on being $200-$300 at least (only my prediction, don't shoot me), it'll exceed the price of the 60GB PS3.

Similarly Sony could sell the PS3 for a hundred dollars more while they are at it but that didnt happen.

Except Sony co-developed Blu-ray, and they will gain from Blu-ray sales. What will Microsoft gain from HD-DVD movie sales??

No you are not. This is what you said: "no other studios have said they will incorporate this sneaky feature either." and I showed you one major studio. Some of their titles out already feature ICT.

$200-$300 and that too at least. If that is not wishful thinking then I dont know what is. :p

Competitive market share for one. ;)

who needs 2 HDMI, component can do 1080p and will not be downgraded for movies the most part and not on games i don't think, usb's are on the front, online will be free, etc. stop whining

stop the sony bashing all day long, don't xbox360 fanboys have something better to do than complain about sony.

Ok let see here

PS3 is missing Dual HDMI connectors for Game panning on 2x 1080P displays, no way in hell Sony could have pulled that one off, 3x Nic Ports no need for 3 of them. Lasty from what i have been reading is that the Blue-ray drive isa no show yet in the machine. and further more since i was not impressed with the PS3 in graphics and or originality i wont myself be buying one.

From E3 2005 last year to this year so many Sony Fans siad playstation 3 will rule and kick ass and be better. i sure you peaple who did say that are ready to eat soem Soap cause you all got dirty mouths he he he he . and Brandon Live is correct on his views i really doubt sony will have a completly FREE onlien service

First of all I wish you would stop pulling your facts out of nowhere. Sony announced at E3 that they would have 2 levels of online play. Yes one of them they will charge for. Much like Microsoft does. It was on one of the powerpoint slides. The pay for version includes extra tracking of friends across buddy lists and such.

Second, what have they really gotten rid of? There is still 1x HDMI (which is all you need), 1x CAT5, 4x USB (2 more than before), 1x Component out, and still wireless? Whats the big fuss?

Sonys 15 minutes of Fame is up. i just really dont think PS3 is all that impressive as the Nintendo Wii or the first reactiosn of the Xbox 360 . i will continue playing my playstation 2 but will not be purchusing a PS3 for alot of Letdown has been shown

Are we at it again? The bitching, whining and fan-boy wars?

Come on people, you know the price, extra features, etc. Don't mean anything with consoles, and I think that is pretty evident with the Playstation 2. It wasn't feature packed, superior hardware wise but the games are what matters. The only reason the Playstation 2 sold is because of it's huge and amazing game library, yes it may not be YOUR type of games but it proved fair and square that hardware never matters.

Also whoever said that Playstation 3 doesn't a license for the Unreal 3 engine and the Unreal Tournament 2007 version of PS3, well you're wrong. http://www.epicgames.com/press_ps3.html and http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/unrealt...s.html?mode=all

It's funny all you Xbox 360 fan-boys are the ones nit-picking at the Playstation, Is it because it was more superior to your beloved Xbox? I don't know but I didn't see as much nit-picking from Nintendo and Sony fan-boys as I just saw in this thread.

LMFAO.

UT2007 was only for PS3 and now Sony managed to lose exclusivity to even that game.

Wow, how old are some of you? Really now...

Sony said that the outputs on the back weren't final and were bound to change. Some people are just going full force on this Sony bashing because they have nothing else to do.

No kidding, the idiot who made the image with "Lie" all over it points to the USB ports two even though sony added four to the front. Haha, these fanboys. Hilarious.

That being said, I think revolution will win japan, ill try for a revolution first then a ps3

But just look at the Core system...what fool would choose to buy that? Sony's doing the same thing: they want you to go for the higher priced one.

Major distinction:

The core system can be upgraded to be exactly the same as a "premium" unit. The only difference is the included accessories.

With the PS3 "value" edition, you actually get a lesser unit that will never have HDMI, or memory card slots, or wireless inside of it.

pros:

- controler that lots of people like

- hdmi (only on 600 model)

- lots of rpgs

- backward compatilble (maybe?)

cons:

- no force feedback (how could they call it dual-shock 3 when the point of dual-shock was the rumble?)

- price

- lost most of the features sony promised last year

- losing lots of "exclusive" titles

I would like to point out that I didn't make the pic, just posted it from another site. I thought it was a funny picture, even if it's not completely correct or a big deal about the missing ports :)

Not commenting on you post, just your sig. You do realize that the 500 dollar PS3 has all the hardware features of the 400 dollar 360 + a blu-ray player right? It's really only fair to compare the 500 dollar PS3 to the cost of an xbox 360 + the HD-DVD add-on. The 600 dollar PS3 has a hardware feature set that extends beyond the premium 360 + hd-dvd add-on.

Please realize that the comparison is not PS3 versus Xbox 360, rather the comparison is for the two flavors of each console. Although both purchases are dumb (imo), it is dumber to purchase a $500 PS3 over the $600 PS3 than it is to purchase the $300 Xbox 360 over the $400 Xbox 360 since the Xbox 360 is upgradable, the PS3 is not.

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
    • If I were them, I'm gonna hold out until the prices of these semiconductor parts normalize. $1,049 for a ~5 year old hardware is DoA, more so for gamers. On a deeper note, if Steam Machine is priced like this, we are soo effed up for the next gen Xbox console and PS6. With great AAA titles releasing at the end of the year, this just creates more demand...and more tears for me. Lol.
    • I suspect one reason its hard to justify subsidising is that it's not a locked down device like a traditional console is. In this climate sadly if it was a "good deal" you'd get people hoarding them for anything but gaming. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is £1300 here ($1720) for some context on how other SteamOS like devices are now priced. I got the older Z1 Extreme model for £300 with a dock, just shows how insane prices have got recently.
