i finally installed temperature monitor and my macbook is running really hot. it idles at 65-70C and goes to 80 at full load (cpu gets throttled down). from numbers i've seen in this thread, looks like my macbook has heat issues. i'm using rain design ilap most of the time so my lap is not in contact with the macbook. i tried without ilap and it's way too hot. i don't suppose local applestore can do anything about the heat issue?

edit: what's under top left corner of macbook (where all the connectors are)? that's the only area that gets really hot. actually the left side (by the connectors) is hot all the time even without anything plugged in. is this normal?

Imperfect, that is normal. My MacBook 2GHz/white idles at about 65-70C as well and can get up towards 75,80. I've seen it at 85 to 90 under maximum load. It's not unusual to have it in the 70's under moderate CPU load. I don't own one of those iLaps either. The leftside is known to be the hottest, top left corner where the MagSafe connector is, underneath. It's normal...

Thanks a mill dL, I have put off buying the MacBook for the time being after reading the user posts at the apple link. I see horrible issues that must be sorted out first. It just doesn't make sense to blow off 1400 odd EURs on this cooker of a laptop, waiting for it to turn brown on me. 70 Degs C for a laptop on moderate load, and 90 on maximum load... :-S I mean, come on... Add to that the Rosetta emulation for more than 70% of the popular Mac Apps, bringing in a good solid lag in their performance. Nah, the time ain't right to go get an Intel Mac. And well, the link provided by dL, just sealed the decision. :-/

Huy, I don't know if 13MHZ makes a big difference, but my White Stock book idles around 55*C and max temp is 79*C

it won't go over 79* no matter how much I push it. The Temp for web broswering on mine is around 64*C

pretty good if you ask me...

I am also scared of the discoloration stuff thats been going on. I type a lot on this laptop and I don't want it to turn yellow in one month... Apples gotta fix it.! ASAP

No problem. I just wanted to inform more innocent buyers about this. I am holding off until I am back from my Hong Kong/Japan trip in August 26th and see if they have fixed the issue or not. If not, then Dell M1210 ftw.

XDViPeR, I'm using it on my bed not on a hardwood/proper desk or anything... that could be it. My one usually floats at about 65C when idling and when I'm using it, it's about 65C to 70C. I can really get the fans going when I am in Boot Camp, manually going to the Windows Update site and letting it scan. Then it gets really hot during the (few-minutes) that it needs to scan. I also got the fans going full-speed when testing my memory, using memtest in single-user mode. (www.memtestosx.org) but that's normal when testing for hours on end (I have 2GB RAM and made 3 passes).

Re: discolouration. I've been using my MB daily for the past MONTH (got mine asap when it was announced) and it has no discolouration. It's a week 19 Mac. (4th and 5th digit from the left, of your Mac hardware serial).

Its still in beta.

Has anyone experience the discoloration issue? After having mine for a little less than a month, I've just notice a very, very light brown color where my palm rests. I've read around and it seems like its a widespread problem.

the one guy I work with is having the discoloration issue with his...

dont know why some of you lot moan about 60C at idle, mine is 60C at idle and its a toshiba portege m200 ( banias core ). i figure it as normal

I'm complaining in part because I can't set the laptop directly on my lap comfortably. Another major problem is cpu throttling. It is extremely annoying to experience lag and pauses due to high temperature. If it can't run at 2GHz under full load for extended period of time, then it doesn't work as advertised in my books.

Overall I still love my macbook. I think it's one the best designed laptop on the market. I feel my concerns are genuine and not cavils, considering it directly affects performance.

Uhm how's the typing btw? I'm a really fast typer and tend to get annoyed with "not-listening" keys. Are they ease pushable and how do they react?

Best laptop keyboard I've ever used. I always have bad-habits with mis typed keys on laptop keyboards but this is really good seeing they're spaced out. They're also very responsive and don't require a lot of pressure on them in order to type. No problems (so far) with "sticky" keys either.

Cheers, 4ll be going to an Apple Store shortly to let them convince me and then ... bam goodbye PC!

If you already have a DVD burner, or don't want a super-drive, then you can cut costs by going with the combo-drive model. The speed loss wouldn't be noticeable, and you'd have a bit more cash to upgrade the ram to 1 GB (wise idea), and even the hard drive. You can bump up to an 80 GB for $50.

I just picked up a macbook ultimate from the local apple store yesterday. This macbook is everything i thought it would be and more. Having never owned a mac, I am very impressed.
Do you mean the MacBook Pro? If so, how much heavier and wider is it when compared to just the MacBook? And is the dedicated graphics card worth the steep hike in price?

Furthermore, because the New Outlook effectively functions as a web-based client, it requires all connected accounts—even standard IMAP or POP accounts—to route and cache data through Microsoft's cloud servers. You can verify the accepted account setups using the Microsoft Supported Account Types Guide." Built to fail "New" Outlook is basically just webmail in a window wrapper and it's usefulness reflects that.
