DS Lite: L & R Buttons turning yellow...

Recommended Posts

And I was just about to buy a DS Lite. :/ Maybe I should wait for another colour to be released here.

Can anyone take some pictures of the problem?

I could probably come up with a better picture then this. I really don't think it is THAT big of an issue to be honest. I do like how the polar white doesn't show finger prints or scratches as easily as the other colors. In a couple of months I'm sure I'll have a scratch on a screen or something that will bother me a LOT more then these off-white slightly yellow buttons that aren't even that visable unless you flip it over. There could be worse problems with it.

Sorry..this picture kinda sucks... I was using a fancy Canon digital camera that I can't ever seem to get focussed :) I think the glare had something to do with that.

Go to a store and look at the display DS Lite.. I'm sure the buttons are yellow there. Probably more so because every little kids hands have been on it.

Hmm, some are asking for a solution.

My suggestion: Wash your hands people.

I've had my Lite since it came out and mine is still looking good. Like the man said above, what do you expect for that price? I'm still diggin' mine and if it discolours I'm going to be proud. Think if it like battle wounds.

If it does discolour in the future, then White Out is my friend. Ghetto style baby! Oh yeah!

white out is pretty nasty and flacky. White nail polish would probably look better. Again, I do not think it has anything to do with dirty hands. I've seen plastic like this before, and it is just reacting to moisture in the air and oxidizing. If it was from dirty hands it wouldn't be so uniformly discolored. The bottom is discolored and your don't even play with your fingers on the bottom of the buttons! It is just cheap plastic.

It doesn't look that bad really. I don't see how dirt could cause it either because the off-white colour is uniform across the buttons. Infact it looks like that's how it was made. I saw a brand new one in a glass case and the shoulder buttons were off-white too. Is anyone sure it was ever actually white? :p

Good question, as I personally am not sure.

Like I said I barely have used those buttons, so I am with you and think it is just an off colored plastic, basically a poor choice in color.

Although I do see why this would upset some people, personally at the end of the day, I do not care if it turns brown. As long as I have no dead pixels, the screen stays intact, and it plays games fine, I could care less if it turns colors, just keep working and I will be happy.

Totally with you 100%!

I think it is just that initial turning point from when you get a nice electronic gizmo and it turns from new to used that bums everyone out. Everytime I look at those yellowish buttons I feel kinda sad :(...and then I look at my 2 year old iPod which looks like it is beat to a pulp and get happy again :D....not really beat to a pulp, just scratched up really bad. It still works, and plays my music just fine.

The shoulder buttons of my DS Lite look like this since I bought it 3 weeks ago. I don't think it's discoloration. They just have that yellowish color.

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
    • If I were them, I'm gonna hold out until the prices of these semiconductor parts normalize. $1,049 for a ~5 year old hardware is DoA, more so for gamers. On a deeper note, if Steam Machine is priced like this, we are soo effed up for the next gen Xbox console and PS6. With great AAA titles releasing at the end of the year, this just creates more demand...and more tears for me. Lol.
    • I suspect one reason its hard to justify subsidising is that it's not a locked down device like a traditional console is. In this climate sadly if it was a "good deal" you'd get people hoarding them for anything but gaming. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is £1300 here ($1720) for some context on how other SteamOS like devices are now priced. I got the older Z1 Extreme model for £300 with a dock, just shows how insane prices have got recently.
