Looks cleaner and more sharp, but it still doesn't look clean enough for me to use. (In my opinion, Microsoft can't pull off the transparency; it makes it look even more bloated than it already is.)

Muuuuuch better! What a difference...it's more compact and warmer. :| :) ...or could the color warmness be due to the wallpaper?

The color scheme and glassiness reminds me of Fantasy Interactive's overall site design.

Why did they change the Power icon? The old one is a standard icon commonly used on hardware too.

funny. the old one was ISO/IEC for "Standby". this new one is the same icon as in Windows Server 2003, which stands for "Hard On/Off Switch".

i guess they're changing the default action from Standby to off... which is weird... cause ATX computers shut down to standby and not hard off.

maaaaybe they should switch back to the old one.

in the screenshots ive seen with the new basic visual theme i've noticed that the folder icons in explorer are now also different, and the blue on the toolbar is toned down

Don't forgot, they also fixed that hideous question mark icon and replaced it with the newer Vista one (the purple circle with the white border) - it looks MUCH more polished and better!

I personally like the new O with the line in it more, its much cleaner. I also like how they changed the color from an ugly orange-ish-brown to red.

The taskbar is kinda blue in the 5456 shot because of the blue-ish background.

I also like how they made things smaller and more compact, being myself; a person who hates seeing things very large for people who can't see well I think they put this at a nice size for people who have good vision. Before everything looks so big that it was like enlarged (this being bad because Microsoft makes icons in non-vector format)

Overall I like it, thought I still am not a fan of the design overall.

AeroDiamond IS, IS, IS, IS, coming!

All those who think they have the 'latest' news, thats its been scraped and what not.

a couple of days ago a MS spokesperson HIGHLY recommended everyone to activate their beta2. he could not give his reasons, he only 'highly' recommended it. and we found out why too. those who activated their beta2 copy will get RC1.

now, i can only tell you that AeroDiamond IS coming.

Ah huh...and your source is?..... Let me guess a friend that works at Microsoft, right?

a couple of days ago a MS spokesperson HIGHLY recommended everyone to activate their beta2. he could not give his reasons, he only 'highly' recommended it. and we found out why too. those who activated their beta2 copy will get RC1.

You know, I really fail to see that just because a MS Spokesperson said that people needed to activate their copies of Beta 2 to get RC1, that that means a new interface is coming. In fact, I never even heard that this ms spokesperson was being so secretive about it, the first I heard about it (in the Vista newsgroups) clearly stated that you needed to do so to get RC1, and I havn't read anything to the contrary until your post. And as far as Aero Diamond, it apparently "never made it off the drawing board". I don't know where you're getting your information, but I'm not saying I don't believe you either. I'm just saying, from everything so far, it looks like AD and VG have been dropped (which doesn't mean that can't change...remember watercolor and luna?)

Edit: Also, there was a post by Kam VedBrat, from the WPF team, who says that Vector Glass will not be in Vista. Now, my understanding is that vector glass would have used wpf (and Kam says that), and Aero Diamond was going to use wpf (possible rumour? it was still going to be vector, though, which I would imagine would have to be wpf...). Additionally, diamond was announced for the media center edition of longhorn, but we all know that everything from home premium and up has media center, so that doesn't work out, at least now.

the new updated NW corner of office is an improvement...but i just dont know. that whole area is so ****** up and out of place i don't know if they can ever make it really pleasing to the eye. whoever thought of the idea should be fired and i think they should just scrap that whole area and redo it from the ground up.

i didn't even know the orb was a button the first time i tried the beta...although the glow on hover helps that somewhat

I've gotta say something, the office icons are nice, but the program sucks as of this point. (Office 2007) As in I mean that all it is about looks, everything is changed and its not user friendly. Thats my opinion on Office 2007 at this point, (althought it is in early beta, right?)

Icons are nice though.

    • outside of the AI and embedded spyware, I think windows 8 is by far the worse version of windows. Or maybe windows ME could be worse.
    • All that hype about Android apps on PC and then nothing because of that stupid Amazon App Store partnership.
    • hands down the worst version of Windows to date and sadly I think it's only downhill from here
    • I've never known a release to have so much pressure than this one. There is so much riding on the whole games industry because of everything that's changed in the past five years. That if this is a complete flop then I think the whole games industry is done unless something radically changes.
    • Windows 11 is now five years old by Taras Buria Windows 11 is now half a decade old. Five years ago, on June 24, 2021, Microsoft announced its latest operating system, designed to "bring you closer to what you love." Today, Windows 11 celebrates its fifth birthday. The launch of Windows 11 was interesting. Rumors about Microsoft introducing a Windows 10 successor popped up weeks before the public announcement, and a few days later, an entire preview build leaked online, allowing everyone to take a peek at what Microsoft was preparing. A few weeks later, Microsoft confirmed that Windows 11 was a thing and officially unveiled its next-gen operating system. Early versions of Windows 11 promised quite a lot. A redesigned, more modern user interface, a brand new Start menu and taskbar, improvements to virtual desktops and window snapping, Android app support, Teams integrated into the taskbar, Windows Widgets, a new version of the Microsoft Store, improved security, and more. Some of those features were welcomed, while others were received with heavy criticism. Besides missing taskbar and Start menu features, many disliked the steep hardware requirements, which kicked out PCs that were back then still perfectly fine. TPM and Secure Boot became mandatory, causing a spike in sales of dedicated TPM chips for motherboards. Double-layered context menus were disliked as well, and it is something that Microsoft still has to fix. Additionally, with time, some of Windows 11's exclusive features were simply killed. Microsoft removed the Teams integration and discontinued Android app support. During the early days of Windows 11, Microsoft was quite unwilling to address things that users criticized most. After four years on the market, management changes, and heated competition from the Mac camp, Microsoft finally decided to give in and take its operating system back to the drawing board to fix everything users had been complaining about for years. Microsoft is now redesigning the Start menu, adding missing taskbar features, improving Windows Update, fixing Windows 11's context menu, and more. Some believe all that warrants a new Windows 12 release, but for now, it appears that Windows 11 will stick around for a while. With Microsoft now listening to its core audience and acting upon received feedback, fans can finally expect a much better version of Windows 11 than what was available five years ago. Here is to five more years, Windows 11!
