1.) Microsoft could be working on things all the time that nobody outside Microsoft Labs would know about and won't know about until it goes RTM or even final. Even in todays world, companies can still keep a few secrets. Remember Windows XP and it's UI? Luna didn't show up until RTM and people were like "where the f*** did this come from?"

I stopped reading after the bold sh`t... Luna came a few builds before Whistler Beta 2. Next time you feel you have something smart to say, please use google first!

  • 2 weeks later...

According to some Desktop Aurora didn't exist/ is not comming but Dave Vronay who runs the UX Compliance team refers directly to it and the possibility of it shipping in the quote from istartedsomething.com

What about Desktop Aurora?

I was surprised Dave could give me such a straight answer when everyone else avoids the question. ?There are many implementations of the animated desktop around.i> When it ships and in what form depends mostly on application compatibility and performance testing.? So there you have it, it?s not just a rumor after all. Whether if we?ll see it by the time Vista launches is another question.

He has more to say on Updating the UX Compliance Guidelines, working with 3rd parties, and vector graphics

I actually have a screenshot here of XP build 2505 with luna that I took shortly after installing that build. It amazes me what people will say...or litterally..MAKE UP out of thin air when they want to look impressive. (I'm actually agreeing with you, even thought it may not look it).

Stop bragging people...it just makes you look like you may be making it up. Look at NightmarE D, he's always pulling crap out of his butt and looks stupid in the end when he's wrong.

lol, sorry man, I couldn't help myself after I read your post.

Yes I do remember, and it was LONG before RTM, anyone who followed the whistler/xp betas knows that it was around pre Beta2 in one form or another. And no they weren't because it had been around for months already when the RTM hit.

Luna wasn't in the XP betas, but it was in by the time the RCs came around.

It was in pre-beta 2 and beyond - http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/windowsxp_beta2.asp

Radish?

Luna wasn't in the XP betas, but it was in by the time the RCs came around.

Microsoft would have had to be mental to do that (and didn't).

I can't see any way that Microsoft could get a new UI in there at this point, not without leaving them self wide open to a shovel load of bugs.

Thank you for providing a link radish. Why is it only the oldschool crew seem to remember the facts surrounding the old whistler/xp beta days?

In any case, Microsoft have taken a vastly different approach with Vista as it is, for one its far more opened to the public then any other piece of software they have tried to develop, that was what actually made the XP development cycle so fun was that not everybody had a copy but anyway.

By RC1 I dont recall anything barring the bootscreen and a cpl of sounds changed, yet this time around its RC1 and apparently there is still more to come with RC2 so things have definitely changed since the XP days.

Microsoft have dropped alot from Vista already I dont necessarily see why people need some extra shine on glass effects, like someone else said they need to spend more time fixing bugs then making a glass effect look pretty, but I guess well know tomorrow when RC2 arrives, and over the coming weeks at it hits RTM.

No problem, the internet has sure changed with people posting things that are considered gospel without proof.

The Whistler/XP days were cool, Vista doesn't have the same feel to it - anticipation-wise.

Let's hope Vista RC2/RTM will bring surprises.

Radish?

Yeah exactly, and wouldnt you agree it was because everything wasnt so public. I mean the Whistler/XP days we werent too sure where it was going how it was going to turn out. Those were the days when even paully thuroot had about as much inside info as anyone on the boards :p

Thank you for providing a link radish. Why is it only the oldschool crew seem to remember the facts surrounding the old whistler/xp beta days?

Because most of the kids these days were in nappies during Whistler.

It's plain and simple to me... I think the current UI in Vista does not meet the expectations that myself and many others were looking forward to in Vista. I'm left with little hope that there will be a secret tier but I'm praying for one. ;)

What happening to the 3D carousel control panel ?? <--- the older builds started work on this and then dropped it.

Vista looks nothing like it's concept drawings.

As has already been said, this is the last public build of Vista. After this, Microsoft is changing the Product Keys, and will be checking in some User Experience code that they've been sitting on so they can still surprise the market. Jim talked about this during my interview, and I'll post more on that later.

interesting :p

    • I really wonder if this has to do with the built in VPN or "private DNS" of browsers that trip up legal requirements like cookie consent and Cloudflare (to avoid all the botnet attacks we get). And BTW some botnets still manage to get past Cloudflare, we are constantly having to tweak it to block malicious traffic that ultimately cause a DDoS.
    • CPPC states can also be messed around with in most UEFI settings but aren't as robust as the ones that the Windows Scheduler can provide! Make sure you look into what your motherboard also has before customizing for the Windows Scheduler.
