aero diamond is vector glass right?

Despite the fact that vector based graphic user interfaces will be a technological advance, will it be of real use in vista? Currently they had built everything in high resolutions so it looks fine for now. So just out of curiosity, will the end-user get practical differences?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but vista already has vector drawing capabilities built-in right? So unless there is a major user interface change, vector glass wouldn't make any differences. But developers can take advantage of the WPF in individual applications anyway.

But you seem to not. I think i could easily find someone else in vbl_ux that doesnt know.

Please quote were i said Brandon is a nobody

Im not the only one who knows its coming. I know of 4 other people who know its comming (besides ms people).

I know it is coming. Oh, wait, no I don't.

Nexus is right! I have a source that told me MS is using Aero Diamond as the UI on the UFOs they rebuilt from Roswell and used them to destroy the Twin Towers! :shiftyninja:

/Bin Laden told me in a dream

hahaha man your funny .

but think if we do get Aero Diamond, how dumb we will look lol and Nexus will laugh in our face

1. Yes the capability to run the Aero Diamond theme has been in builds for a long time now.

2. Performance will be much better. Aero Diamond requires DX9 hardware support (not 10). Also Aero Diamond Makes use of direct x code for the vectorization, not WPF/Avalon. Aero Diamond not using Avalon was confirmed long before Kam said it on his blog. Other features include per application dpi scaling and a a slight difference in the appearance over Aero Glass, not a major change in the appearance. The longhorn look probably isn't coming back.

3. Like Aero Glass if you have the capability it will automatically be enabled out of the box.

4. I like how everyone makes it out about little old me. There is plenty of other people who know its coming (like utaks and many others) but just wish to keep silent because they wish to not start fights. I can understand that... Why bother when your right?

5. Anyone wants to argue that Desktop Aurora is not coming needs a slap in the face. It was shown many times in screenshots, videos etc. straight from microsoft. Animated Aurora has been shown working. Its proven stuff. Desktop Aurora has been several years in the making and is everywhere, signs, posters, artwork, etc. To throw it out now would be hilarious.

5 a. Animated Aurora itself is technically already in the builds. Look closely behind the "copy, move, delete" dialog boxes. There is animated aurora moving in the background.

5 b. its not just Desktop Aurora but animated wallpaper support with its own file extension, I know said extension as well. If you like vector wallpapers people make here on neowin imagine one single file which could stretch perfectly to any monitor and not pixelate (meaning the animated wallpaper support doesn't just have to be animated it can be still wallpapers too, since its powered by Avalon and xaml).

6. Aero Diamond was also shown working (although it wasn't called Aero Diamond) at winhec 2005 with build 5060. The exact compile that was shown is not on the internal share. Even if your an employee asking for access to this build its not up there. :shiftyninja:

6 a. Don't bother going back to find screenshots of 5060 because the "look" of the theme in that build was just a filler theme, possibly a very old OLD copy of Aero Diamond.

7. I was told it had always been known as Aero Diamond.

8. in build 4074 code was left in that references light calculations and other direct x stuff that was presumably meant for Aero Diamond. Note that back then the builds were messy and stuff from all sorts of labs were left in builds. This is how the Desktop Aurora baml was found inside 4074. This was then converted by people at Aeroxp to run on the current versions of the .net3.0 ctp (so you can run it on xp or the current techbeta vista build).

I've been reading through this thread, and all of you in the "it will come out in RTM!" crowd remind me of a 6 year old on Christmas morning.

In August you see this awesome toy in the store, and you know right then that you really really want it. You put it on your Christmas list and ship it off to Santa. For 5 months you think about your new toy day and night and how awesome it will be. Christmas morning comes and you rush downstairs to the tree with all the presents underneath. You quickly scan the pile of gifts, but at first glance, none seem to match the shape of that toy. That toy that you know is in there somewhere. No matter, you've got a bunch of presents to open, it'll show itself eventually. Your dismay grows little by little as each opened present proves to be a sweater, or a book, or some other toy. Nice, to be sure, but where IS it? Surely it must be around somewhere. Now all but two of your presents are opened, and neither is even close to the size of that awesome toy you've been dreaming about. So you start looking around. Perhaps it's hidden behind the tree? Stashed away in the closet? Maybe mom and dad forgot to bring it down with the rest of the gifts?

This is where you guys are. Grasping those last desparate grasps at hope that your awesome toy is around somewhere, hoping that the last 5 months of dreaming haven't all been for naught. Hoping that mom and dad haven't royally screwed you over.

\was that over the top?

I knew it would use Direct X!!!! I heard Kim Verbrat saying it was too late in the game to use WPF for the vectors however I alwys thought that they could use Direct X too. I have full confidence that Aero Diamond is coming and can't wait!

That's how Aero (or "Aero Glass" as you call it) works. Don't expect to see any big changes to the DWM or themes between now and RTM.

indeed, the voice of reason - this entire mumbo-jumbo about "spectacular" and "most amazing" new features being held in supersecret vaults @ MS for RTM are absolutley silly.

What you see is what you get, plus/minus some minute changes here and there.

<snip>

You need to stop this foolishness.

I can find all sorts of places where you keep changing your tune. Now you're saying that "Diamond" doesn't look much different then Aero Glass. But Nexus, I thought the whole reason MS was keeping quiet about it and apparently lying to their own employees and the general public was because Diamond is so jaw dropping that they didn't want it getting out before RTM. So, that's not true anymore?

Looks like one day Diamond is part of Media Center, the next day it is not. One day it is so utterly amazing, the next day it looks very similar to Aero Glass.

As we get closer and closer to RTM your sweeping statements become more and more vague.

Looks like one day Diamond is part of Media Center, the next day it is not. One day it is so utterly amazing, the next day it looks very similar to Aero Glass.

I always thought Diamond was the codename for Media Center on Vista (after Emerald was MCE 2005).

But what do I know about Vista, I just write code.

That's how Aero (or "Aero Glass" as you call it) works. Don't expect to see any big changes to the DWM or themes between now and RTM.

Thanks for the clarification.

Aero Diamond was indeed the code name for Media Center on Vista.

And I have full confidence that a wealthy Nigerian diplomat named Barrister Faggety Q. Longingsworth is going to make me a millionaire once I give him my bank account numbers. See you in paradise!

Dude, unbelieveable but it actually works! I'M RICH!!!! :p

It is know already that Diamond was MC:Codename under Windows Vista. And most likely it all got jammed up by someone(s) all around the web community. :| I've got to speak with MS reps, directly from the Vista Dev Team and they told me nothing about Vector Glass, heck they even asked me what the heck was that... Now they're either lying or it simply doesn't exist.

@jazket:

just because of the fact that they asked u back

(what?, i never heard of aerodiamood? what aero diamond? thers no aerodiamond here, nope, especially not in room 145 on the second floor... so what is this aerodiamond you speak of?).....

i think they are lying. or this is being worked on at a different secret location on the campus, where selected people work on it, and people dont know about it, except for the ones that are in charge.

if aero diamond is the same looking then why dont they just show screenies of it or confirm it. its not like we can copy it or something in WindowsBlinds. unless its enirely different design, thus can be copied ;)
