icon11.gif BitTorrent is a P2P system that makes transfering large files (or groups of files) amongst a large group of people easy, fast and efficient. The BitTorrent network is impressive mostly for the speed and reliability with which you get files that have been recently released. As long as a .torrent file has enough people sharing then you can be assured that it will start quickly and maintain a good download speed. Always remember to leave your BitTorrent client open to help distribute the files!

icon13.gif Read the FAQ before installing AutoPatcher

icon13.gif IE6SP1 is a major update, if you dont have it installed prior to using autopatcher, make sure its selected for installation the first time you do, otherwise there can be serious consequences. Also note that some updates will only be available to install after IE6SP1 is installed, so youll need to run AP at least twice.

PLEASE READ:

there is an bug in the 2k & 2k3 english releases that i forgot to fix before i uploaded them.

please extract the contents of the attached file to c:\program files\autopatcher or wherever you installed autopatcher to.

fyi the bug is a problem with the installation instructions for KB922481 (a security update for the .Net 2.0 framework) that causes its installation to fail. KB922481 was added in the july 2006 release and the bug was spotted afterwards, its fixed it in the xp august release but i forgot about doing it in the 2k & 2k3 releases. this fix will correct the issue. this fix will be present in the september releases.

aug06_2k_2k3_922481_fix.zip

Note with winzip 9 (not sure on other versions) use the 'extract' button, dragging and dropping will loose the folder structure and render the fix useless because theyll be in the wrong folder, the aim is to over write the copies in c:\program files\autopatcher\modules\components\dotnet\

Trying to extracte the "replacement" file. I get "Error in zip structure" and the file size is not 1.83 KB.

Try to download it again, it's obviously getting corrupted between Neowin and you.

@acetken, the file works for me and the size is auto generated by neowin so must be correct. clear your browser/download manager cache and try downloading it again.

There might be a problem here with the installer for .net v2 security patch KB917283. The folder name is different from the file name. It keeps on gving me the Windows Installer 3 silent code options. XP version is OK, but 2K has the same effect on a XP system. There are no specialist commands to silent See attachment

You MUST use Blaze's fix! Take it from first post in this topic... For Windows XP users are not any problem.

I have all three versions of august 2006, I have copied the AP XP files for dotnet v2 files into the 2K & 2k3 version and this has fixed the problem :D

Blaze,

When I extracted the fix under the AutoPatcher 2K folder (Programs Files>AutoPatcher 2K) it adds a Components folder under the AutoPatcher root, but there is also the same folder under Modules. When I looked at the AutoPatcher XP the Components folder is under Modules only. Is that correct for 2K as well for AutoPatcher 2K3?

Thanks

/EZ

You can delete the Components folder under the AutoPatcher root, it contain an empty folder named dotnet.

You need ONLY c:\program files\autopatcher\modules\components\dotnet\ folder.

I was wondering if you get the full version does it have all the updates from other packs prior to it. I have april full now and the following months updates up to july. and just wanted to consolidate.

This is a great app, I just ran it. However, why does it add Malicious Software Removal Tool to the start menu and copy the exe to Program Files? Why doesnt it just run it during the installtion like Windows Update does it?

@EZRecovery, when i made the zip file i initially added the components folder to it instead of the modules folder, i then deleted the contents and added the modules folder. i guess winzip retained the original folder too and recreated it. you can delete it if you like its not doing anything. ill add removal instructions to get rid of it in the next releases.

I noticed that the folder Components > dotnet was empty.

A minor typo in AP2K.

In Registry Tweaks, Speed, Disable Timestamps, the description says: "Disable file/folder access timestamps, SPEED_ENUing up NTFS file system performance."

SPEED_ENUing?

BTW, is there any real reason that AP5.1 in AP2k has the maximise button disabled? I get around it by using Cmdow to move and resize the window, but maximise would be easier.

IIRC it's because the button can only be toggled at design time and it has to be disabled for some reason I can't remember

like this user, I too cannot download the replacement file.

it is 1.26KB after download, and WINZIp reports a bad zip file. (*sigh*)

I have tried downloading it from three different pc's...

is there another link to pull it from? :pinch:
