Lost - Season Three

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure I agree with the 'reliving his life over' theory...I dont think Des ever left the island but just kinda dreamt the whole flash back thing. But he now knows he his there for a purpose, which is something he was struggling with. Anyway, if had already lived this life once, or more, Charlie would have to die each time for him to know where and when to save him...right?

Regardless, it was a great show...I was growing weary of the 'others' storyline and this was a great change of pace.

So what do you guys think the 3 mysteries are that will be answered in next weeks episode according to the ABC promo?

Reckon its Cindy, Kids and Jack's tattoos.

Yeah you are probably right...I think we will find out Cindy is either an Other or just someone that was taken...along with the other people that are with her in that promo...from Danielle's ship etc...I think next weeks is gonna be awesome

ok someone help me out here.. i'm so confused.. wtf does all this mean.

Notice.. penny is wearing a white shirt

then this, from season 2 finale... this picture is next to penny's bed, which means that she has this picture also.

http://gallery.lost-media.com/albums/ep-ca...ediecap1410.jpg

notice the black shirt in the photo.

so basically what this tells me is that, early in season 2 when Desmond was first introduced on the island, he had the picture of him and penny with a white shirt... penny had the same picture but she's wearing a black shirt... once the hatch blew up (time travel? parellel universe?) Desmond finds himself with the picture of penny wearing the black shirt. It has to mean something.. it's not that obvious of a prop mistake, i can't piece it together for the life of me though.

I'm slightly confused. So Desmond isn't Psychic, he's just reliving everything over twice? I thought when he turned that key he relived those event's from the flashback, up until when he was hit with the cricket bat. So then how is he seeing Charlie 'die' and preventing it over and over? He's reliving everything over again right?

Its not just Desmond that is reliving everything but the whole group, or maybe even the whole world. The problem is that most of them dont remember.

The old lady was on the island and she remembered when she saw him in the past. I think the electro magnetic shock refreshed his memory. After all the brain works on firing electric charges.

She told him that our paths are already written and the final outcome can not be changed. No mater what choices we make and what roads we take, we'll end up at the same place.

I dont think he traveled in time, he just remembered his previous life, and maybe Ben and the others have figured it out already..... and that is how they know so much about everyone.

Oh BTW did you guys see the pictures on the wall of Desmond's girlfriend father's office. There was a picture of a man upside down, like falling from the sky, and mountains in the background and a big wave representing the ocean. It was like a picture of what happens to them.

Yeah there was a Polar Bear,Mountains,Namaste written backwards and the Foot Statue :s...

Yeh the idea of them reliving their lives over and over again is very matrix like. With Neo having to return to the source in order to"reset" the matrix, except of course on the version we see in the films he does things differently.

It makes me think that desmond is going to do things differently this time around (even though he apparently can't change the future because the universe corrects itself, what happenes if he killed someone who played a part in 'the end of the world'? or something similar)

I found this snippet interesting from lostpedia about The Valenzetti Equation (aka the numbers):

http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/The_Valenzetti_Equation

[The numbers], explained in the Sri Lanka Video, as the numerical values to the core environmental and human factors of the Valenzetti Equation. Alvar Hanso also states in the video that the purpose of the DHARMA Initiative is to change the numerical values of any one of the core factors in the equation in order to give humanity a chance to survive. However, Thomas Mittelwerk reveals that as of 2006, they have failed to change the values through manipulating the environment

I dunno if any of this is relevant, just some thoughts I had.

That first picture of Penny doesn't even look like her :|

I remember that picture being shown for the first time and people thinking it was the woman from the boat that took walt...she looks nothing like Penny...think its a blunder from the show...has to be?!?

That episode was a little too much. Isn't there enough that the Lost writers can't explain as it is? Way to add to the world of "sorry, no explanation".

Dude, I've felt like that many times.... I would laugh my ass off if in the final episode the just end the show like that without explaining anything..... It would be like "Thanks for watching us, but we have to end this show.... Later!"

New 'Lost' Episode Hits a Ratings Low

LOS ANGELES - "Lost" crashed in the ratings this week, hitting an all-time low for a new episode. ABC's drama about plane crash survivors stranded on a mysterious island drew an estimated 12.8 million viewers Wednesday, according to preliminary figures from Nielsen Media Research. That's well off the peak of more than 20 million for the drama that became an instant sensation when it debuted in September 2004.

ABC has worked hard to try to protect a show that helped turn the network's fortunes around, moving it to 10 p.m. EST Wednesday this year to steer clear of Fox's blockbuster "American Idol" and CBS's increasingly strong "Criminal Minds."

After "Lost" fans complained about reruns interrupting the show's serial flow last season, the network tried an experiment: It split the current season in two, airing six episodes before an extended break and then resuming with 16 additional episodes.

The show's Feb. 7 return was heavily promoted and drew nearly 14.5 million viewers. But the bounce didn't last, with the show slumping this week.

Although protected from top-rated "American Idol" in its new time 10 p.m. time slot, "Lost" now has the disadvantage of trying to draw viewers at an hour when fewer people are watching television. This Wednesday, Valentine's Day put a 7 percent dent in overall TV viewership.

In the show's defense, ABC noted that it beat the competition among the advertiser-favored young adult crowd, drawing 7.3 million viewers age 18 to 49 compared to the 5.8 million that tuned in to CBS' "CSI: New York."

"Lost" also handed ABC nearly 4 million more viewers in the time slot compared to last year, when short-lived drama "Invasion" aired, the network said.

But there's no question that "Lost," once riding big ratings, buzz and cachet, has lost significant ground.

Some fans and critics complain that the story has gotten confusing and unsatisfying. The show, named best drama at the 2005 Emmy Awards, was shut out at the 2006 ceremony.

It was Valentines day maybe thats the reason

wow.. nice eye man

Penny Widmore aka desmonds girlfriend is the same girl in both pictures. they do look different but both episodes "Penny Widmore" appeared in, are from Sonya Walger.

Maybe it's bad props? but why is desmonds face / hair exactly the same in both images? maybe a photoshop was done to see if viewers are really paying attention?

I know that Pen is played by the same girl, but the those two photos are completely different for some reason. Different girl, different shirt, different smile, different hair, etc. That is a different girl in the two pictures.

Also, look at the hatch photo (old photo), the girl is wearing a necklace. The photo from Pen's flat has Pen and she is not wearing a necklace in the photo.

How can you say it's the same girl? They look nothing alike. :|

The eyes, the mouth, the pointy chin, the apparent deep socket eyes in the white shirt photo (could be due to the low color). They just don't resemble each other. The biggest give away is the smile me thinks.

Maybe he was living his perfect life with Penny in his Flashback but it was actually another girl he had the photo taken with :s...to many theories...anyway I was thinking earlier that remember in the finale of Season 2 didn't Penny go to Desmond at the running track...so I assume they were broken up then because he was getting ready for the sail...I may have to watch that episode again...

I don't think they had even cast the character of Penny at the beginning of Season 2 yet, so they just got some filler person to do that shot and then later digitally added the actual Penny into the shot.

As for Desmond reliving everything over up until when the hatch implodes, how is he supposed to know what happens to Charlie when he goes back since that happens after he turns the key. Also he knew what was going to happen to Charlie after he saved him the first time, which going by that theory, he must have lived this at least 3 times. Personally I don't think that's true. He didn't have the ability to see the future before he turned the key, and I doubt he keeps reliving the same thing over and over again, but whatever happened to the hatch gave him the ability to temporarily view the past (up until he got hit with the baseball bat) and now allows him to see the future.

I think it would have served them better, if this episode was the first episode after the break. As, it was a very good episode, and would have helped to maintain viewer ratings.

But, I also think it was partially attributed to V-day. Its too bad that more people didnt watch an excellent episode.

    • Waymo recalls self-driving software after cars enter closed freeway work zones by Paul Hill Waymo, the self-driving car maker owned by Alphabet – the parent company of Google –, has recalled some of its fifth-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS). It did so after some of its cars drove through closed construction zones. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles were capable of driving through a closed freeway construction zone and continuing to drive at speed. The listing on the NHTSA website says that Waymo is currently developing a solution to fix this issue, but in the meantime, freeway driving is being restricted. Waymo will update its ADS software so that vehicles can detect when they can avoid entering construction zones. According to the Safety Recall Report, on April 20, 2026, Waymo’s Field Safety Committee began meetings reviewing an event from April 11, 2026, and five events from April 19, 2026, where Waymo’s autonomous vehicles didn’t recognize and drove past ramp closure signs into the pre-planned freeway construction zones. This took place in Phoenix, Arizona. Separately, on May 18, 2026, seven Waymo vehicles entered freeway lanes with active construction in the San Francisco Bay Area by driving between cones that were placed to show the lane was closed. On the back of both of these events, Waymo restricted freeway driving until it could address the issue. In June, Waymo’s Safety Board reviewed the issue and additional information related to ADS performances around construction zones; then, as a result, it decided to conduct a recall. This development is not good for Waymo as it adds to a growing list of technical hiccups its cars have experienced. Ultimately, it will lead to more scrutiny from lawmakers around the world who will be more cautious about letting autonomous vehicles on their roads without tighter regulation. For readers in areas where Waymo operates, does this news make you more wary about stepping into one of these vehicles?
    • I'm still on Windows 10 22H2 because I didn't want to deal with all the issues in Windows 11, so I waited almost a week before installing the latest Patch Tuesday update (KB5094127), I went ahead and did it, and it was a huge mistake—ever since then, my File Explorer has seen a performance drop of about 30% when transferring large files... Once again, Microsoft has outdone itself! This update cannot be uninstalled, either through the Control Panel (via Settings) or by accessing Advanced Startup Options. The only possible alternative would be to use system restore points, but I’d have to reinstall all app and driver updates (and there’s no guarantee it would work). Or there’s the “nuclear option” of a in-place repair without losing files or apps, but even then, all my customizations would be lost! Microsoft just can’t help but mess everything up! Way to go, Microsoft! But I still don’t want your c****y Windows 11!
    • Microsoft: Windows 11 could finally solve a major issue across AMD, Nvidia, and Intel GPUs by Sayan Sen While Microsoft has been trying to improve it, Windows 11 is definitely not flawless, as even today some issues are taking a year to publicly acknowledge. However, one area of trouble that may finally see much better results soon is graphics driver crashes. Work on graphics driver timeouts, also called Timeout and Detection Recovery (TDR), is not new as the latest WDDM 3.2 also has specific improvements regarding it. Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) version 3.2 is supported on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. However, with the upcoming version 26H2, TDR crash diagnosis could go to the next level as Microsoft is introducing a new DirectX 12 API feature called "DirectX Dump Files". Similar to how system memory dump files work when a system crashes or freezes or encounters any such major issue, DirectX Dump Files (DDF) will essentially record a snapshot of the GPU execution right at the moment a graphics-related crash or hang or freeze occurs, so that developers can better understand and diagnoze these TDR and timeout detection errors. The dump will be available as a .dxdmp file for analysis and it will be a comprehensive dump file generated with detailed insights about the hardware, drivers, Windows, as well as the affected application. This should be another welcome change in this department. Earlier at GDC 2026, when the technology was first debuted, Microsoft had shared more details regarding it. The company had explained how DDF is designed to gather data from every layer of the graphics stack into a single file, eliminating the need for developers to manually correlate logs from multiple tools. As mentioned above, the dump can contain a lot of useful details like GPU hardware state information such as register values, shader program counters, page fault virtual addresses, shader memory data, and command buffers. Alongside that, it also captures DirectX runtime and kernel information, including D3D objects, pipeline state objects, device error data, adapter details, and CPU call stacks. Microsoft says the feature has been built around two primary use cases: retail device removals and local device removals. The former allows developers to collect crash information from end users' systems in the field, while the latter helps QA teams and developers investigate issues on test machines. Developers will also be able to include up to 2 MB of custom application data through new D3D12 APIs, providing additional context for troubleshooting. In addition, Microsoft is introducing three dump collection modes ranging from zero-overhead capture, which has no runtime performance impact on supported hardware, to higher-detail modes that collect more vendor-specific debugging data. On compatible Tier 2 hardware, zero-overhead dumps will be enabled by default, meaning developers may begin receiving useful crash diagnostics without making any code changes. The table below explains the three tiers: Tier Description NO_OVERHEAD Enables crash capture with no runtime cost and is suitable for broad deployment MEDIUM_OVERHEAD Provides a balance, capturing additional diagnostic data with moderate impact HIGH_OVERHEAD Collects the most detailed GPU and driver state available, enabling deeper investigation at the cost of higher runtime overhead In terms of availability, the company expects broader release to be around the fall of 2026, which should be right around the time when Windows 11 version 26H2 lands. Right now, DirectX Dump Files are available as a preview and currently, only AMD has the compatible AgilitySDK Developer Preview driver version 26.10.07.02. You can find the official announcement post here on Microsoft's website.
