Lost - Season Three

I don't think they had even cast the character of Penny at the beginning of Season 2 yet, so they just got some filler person to do that shot and then later digitally added the actual Penny into the shot.

As for Desmond reliving everything over up until when the hatch implodes, how is he supposed to know what happens to Charlie when he goes back since that happens after he turns the key. Also he knew what was going to happen to Charlie after he saved him the first time, which going by that theory, he must have lived this at least 3 times. Personally I don't think that's true. He didn't have the ability to see the future before he turned the key, and I doubt he keeps reliving the same thing over and over again, but whatever happened to the hatch gave him the ability to temporarily view the past (up until he got hit with the baseball bat) and now allows him to see the future.

ok you may be right about the casting thing.. i didn't even notice it was a different girl, i guess the shock of the different colored shirt just caught my eye.. HOWEVER, even though your casting thing makes complete sense.. penny was introduced as of the finale, can you or anyone figure out a logical reason as to why both desmond and penny have this same picture, when we clearly seen in last nights episode that the picture was only given to them once.

IMHO that was the worst episode to date. WTF is this, the Matrix? I was excited to see Charley and Hugo, but then too much Desmond.

That old lady really killed the episode for me. It broke the illusion of science, and went too 'Narnia' for me.

I can dig what Desmond went through, but it was too nonsensical for me to enjoy. I don't want magical explanations, but secret corporate plots that try to explain and exploit existence!

photocopier? scanner? something like that?

I dunno, I wasn't even addressing that question, lol. But maybe they just got a duplicate so they both can have it. I don't think it matters too much.

Did anyone notice these easter eggs on the latest episode?

http://losteastereggs.blogspot.com/

Give me a break... The more hidden and "mysteries" there are, the lesser the ppl will be interested.

Oh, yea, great, they will solve 3 mysteries this week. What was it?. The numbers? (a whole year thieving with that), the black smoke?, the walter "alter" ego?. NAAAH. The jack tattoo!!

No wonder why this series is losing with American Idol :p And every week they will loose even more

Ok I just saw this at LOST's Easter Eggs Webiste Its about the subliminal message that was shown as Karl was strapped to the chair in the previous episode. There is a backwards message in the first half of the film (this is a technique called "backmasking"). It's a woman repeating the phrase "Only fools are enslaved by time and space".

This kind of proves my point that the others have figured it out that they have already lived through these events, and I think they are all trying to change the turn off the events in order to change the final outcome.... I know it might sound quite far fetched but so is the whole show :)

Cheers!

Good point this also backs up my post here.

When Jack asked why Ben couldn't go to a facility and Tom says because the sky turned purple, but why did they kidnap Jack, Kate and Sawyer in the first place? They already captured them when the sky turned purple, did they predict it or something?

Uh... too mind blowing to be truth, most people really really hate time paradoxes

I think some of the props are just there to make the show more realistic in their nature, and the "backmasking" sound clip, probably just part of the video that would possibly make one insane, just like the quotes in the frames of the video. though this show is insane in its nature that a lot of mysterious anomalie lies, sometimes i just wonder if people just look too far. nonetheless pretty enjoyable seeing how people pinpoint specific "eastereggs" that i wouldnt have be able to notice myself.

Well it kind of makes sense. It explains Desmond's flashback of his previous life events. It also explains how he has one picture of the same event with his girlfriend on the island, and she had the similar picture but in different clothing. I would say that he relived that event many times, and in one of those times she was wearing black shirt and in the other one white. You see small details seem to change but final outcome stay the same, as the old woman told him....

Is either that, or a casting mistake :) lol

Can't wait for Episode 11!!! Look who stars in it!!!

Rousseau, Dr. Marvin Candle, Mikhail Bakunin (Patch man) and Ms. Klugh!!! Wow, this is going to be a kick ass episode!!

At least they sort of explained why Penny was looking for Desmond, and how she knew what to look for.

I reckon that after he gets lost on the island, Widmore tells Penny that he came to see her. She goes to Donavon, who sees that Desmond got lost on the boat trip, like he (presumably, when he recounted the story in the pub) said would happen. He tells Penny about the electromagnetism thing, who searches for electromagnetic anomalies in an attempt to locate Desmond.

That is if Desmond actually travelled in time. He can tell the future, that's clear. Given that, time travel doesn't seem unlikely.

I actually really liked the episode, but thats partly because I love lost and enjoy the writing, acting and characters. I definetly would much rather a more beleivable story line though, within the context of the show at least. I would much rather the corporate plots and secret experiments as well. Time travel though is definitely a bit much, especially if everyone on the island did it. Its just a bit ridiculous. I really found that chick to be way too much as well, but again, I do like the show and beleivability aside its a good time.

"The makers of the show have also discredited the theory that the survivors will experience, or have experienced, time travel, which was dismissed by Damon Lindelof."

i dont want to get too involved in theories or buy into time travel etc.. too quickly.. but being that in the last episode we see that they only took the pic once and i think that has significance to it, i think the fact that penny has a copy of the picture too means something like time travel, or a parallel universe. I dont think it's just as simple as desmond decided to scan it and make penny a copy, to be honest i think that's a little more far fetched than my explanation..lol

    • As I've been usually saying lately - we all can thank "AI" for this.
    • Friday Windows 11 preview builds are here. Insiders in the Experimental (formerly Dev) and Beta Channel can download builds 26300.8697 and 26220.8690. My Windows11 device on the Preview Channel just got 26220.8728. My guess is this build is a nightly update from 26220.8690.
    • Traffic has a surprisingly unexpected impact on your surroundings by Sayan Sen Image by Radik 2707 via Pexels A collaborative study by researchers from several Israeli institutions found that everyday pollution from traffic and industrial activity measurably changed the atmospheric electric field over the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, providing new evidence of how human activity can influence the lower atmosphere. The research was led by Dr. Roy Yaniv of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Gertner Institute at Sheba Medical Center, Dr. Assaf Hochman of the Fredy & Nadine Herrmann Institute of Earth Sciences at the Hebrew University, and Prof. Yoav Yair of Reichman University. The study also involved Itay Froomer, a student from Hadera High School and the Israeli Museum of Medicine and Science (Technoda), who carried out the work as part of the Ministry of Education's 5-unit physics research track. The researchers focused on the atmospheric electric field under fair-weather conditions. Even in the absence of storms, a weak electric field naturally exists between Earth's surface and the atmosphere. One of the main ways scientists measure this field is through the Potential Gradient (PG), which is the inverse of the vertical component of the electric field. PG is a key part of the global electric circuit, a planet-wide system of electrical currents maintained by thunderstorms and electrified clouds around the world. Scientists have long known that the atmospheric electric field can be influenced by factors ranging from large-scale atmospheric processes to local weather conditions such as dust, fog and clouds. Human-made pollution is also known to play a role, but understanding exactly how urban emissions affect the electric field close to the ground has remained an area of ongoing research. To investigate this relationship, the team analyzed measurements from a newly installed electric field mill, an instrument used to continuously monitor the strength of the atmospheric electric field. The instrument was installed at the Center for Technological Education (Roter House) in Holon and became operational in August 2024. It was funded by Israel's Ministry of Education and the Holon municipality. The electric field mill forms part of a broader monitoring network that includes nearby meteorological stations and air-quality monitoring sites. This allowed researchers to compare electric field measurements with detailed weather data and pollution records to better understand what was driving changes in the Potential Gradient. The study focused on two major urban pollutants: fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), both commonly produced by vehicle traffic and industrial activity. PM2.5 refers to microscopic airborne particles small enough to remain suspended in the atmosphere for extended periods, while NOx is a group of gases released during fuel combustion. Researchers examined daily, weekly and seasonal patterns in the atmospheric electric field and compared them with changes in pollutant concentrations. Their analysis revealed a clear relationship between NOx levels and changes in the Potential Gradient, particularly during morning and evening rush hours when traffic emissions were at their highest. “What we observe is a direct physical link between emission peaks and electrical variability,” explained Dr. Roy Yaniv. “NOx reduces atmospheric conductivity very quickly, so the electric field responds almost instantaneously during traffic rush hours.” Atmospheric conductivity describes how easily electrical charges move through the air. According to the researchers, nitrogen oxides rapidly alter this conductivity, causing a near-immediate response in the electric field. PM2.5, however, was associated with a delayed response. The researchers attributed this difference to the particles' longer atmospheric residence time, meaning they remain in the atmosphere for longer periods, as well as their different microphysical interactions with surrounding air and atmospheric components. The study also identified a pronounced "weekend effect." In Israel, traffic volumes and some industrial activity decline significantly on Fridays and Saturdays. During these periods, concentrations of both NOx and PM2.5 dropped, and corresponding changes were observed in the atmospheric electric field. “The weekend signal demonstrates just how sensitive the electric field is to changes in human activity,” the researchers noted. “When emissions decline, the electrical environment adjusts at once, providing a high-resolution indicator of urban atmospheric conditions.” The findings showed that pollution levels can influence not only the chemical composition of the atmosphere but also its electrical properties. Researchers said the results strengthened the case for using atmospheric electricity as an additional tool for environmental monitoring, particularly in densely populated urban areas where anthropogenic, or human-caused, influences are most pronounced. The study also pointed to potential public health applications. By combining air-quality measurements with observations of atmospheric electricity, researchers said they could gain a more complete picture of how urban atmospheric conditions change over time. “Integrating air-quality data with electric-field measurements gives us a clearer picture of how the lower atmosphere evolves moment by moment,” the researchers added. “It’s a framework that can support both scientific insight and practical environmental decision-making.” Beyond the scientific findings, the project highlighted a collaboration between universities, public institutions and secondary education. Researchers said the work demonstrated how students could take part in real-world environmental research while contributing to studies of air quality, atmospheric processes and their potential effects on society. • We aren't even at the all-star game and Microsoft is talking about an update that will most likely be released during the World Series if not after. A lot can happen in the world between now and the 2026 World Series, including the 2026 FIFA Cup. Tell me about it again after the FIFA Cup is concluded. That should allow plenty of time to prepare for it.
