Lost - Season Three

This is gonna be out there, but maybe black powder stuff is the smoke? Controlled by Jacob?

Whoa, Good theory...Wouldn't that be something?

I think Jacob is held captive by Ben and that black powder like substance is what keeps him there. That is why he asked Locke to help him, I think the finale will have Locke freeing him.

Even better theory. But Locke doesn't believe in Jacob.

Excellent episode. What the hell kind of gas was that? Insta-Death? Pull the pin and everyone dies.

I believe the sickness that has come up in previous episodes was in fact the canister ben released.

It adds up too... desmond from the looks of it worked with a dharma person pushing the button, and when his friend went outside to retrieve supplies he (just like all the other dharma people) was killed from the "sickness"

Ben's mother was the smokey right? It somehow absorbs memories (in this case Ben's father) and creates illusions for people to see. This is the general consensus isn't it?

Yeah thats what i think. Same thing happened to Eko, he saw dead people in his past that apeared on the island thats gotta be smokey.

Just a wtf moment. That just happened in a second,

Locke will live but i wonder who will rescue him?

. Was that power stuff peoples ashes? Locke, smelt it and tasted it. I reckon who ever said above that Ben is holding Jacob prisoner is a good theory. Jacob could be the "heart" of the island.

Yet more questions raise. Why was there a purge? How did the Dharma van end up where Hurley found it? Richard not aging? Awesome episode, best episode of the season so far.

yes thats exactly what i though, isnt there something about using circles of salt to trap or repel ghost/spirits? i googled it but couldnt find anything.

but if Jacob is a spirit were is his body....? or what happened to him.

I still think lost has some sort of "purgatory" or "heaven/hell" theory to it.. as they continue with the biblical references.. such as Jacob being the top dog, i'm not really a religious guy but wasn't Jacob Jesus' father?

ya, thats also the conclution me and my parents have come too, notice it never shows how the people that wernt in accidents before they showed up got there. like Juliet was drugged, they could of killed her in her sleep or something. since if it is purgatory you would have to die to get there, or maybe a coma?

All you X-Files fans should know that Salt is protection against the undead. Interesting theory.

But it's not salt, it's ashes of some sort, like someone else mentioned, probably human.

Ben can't hear Jacob - he was pretending to. Probably holding him prisoner, pretending to take orders though he cannot see nor here himself - because he had no clue what he said to Locke.... Then again, he did know he was in the chair, didn't he?

It was so weird, for a second before the gunshot, I just -knew- what was going to happen, I wanted Locke to get his gun out and shoot Ben up....

Something to note:

Ben was in charge of the hostiles. Doesn't make ANY sense ta all. He says he defected, yet after the "purge," Richard came to take orders from him (should we bring the body back?).

Why would Richard, a powerful "hostile" be taking orders from one of the lone defecters? I believe its because unlike the rest of the "hostiles," Ben saw Smokey/Jacob/Whatever as his mother - he was "special" just like Locke now is.

Makes sense. Ben is no longer special because Locke is his successor. "He manipulates people"

Ben manipulated Locke into believing HE was making him go to Jacob, when Ben wanted to do the ultimate test: can Ben see/hear Jacob?

If he can, he is the new "Champion" and Ben couldn't let that happen.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Jacob's hair looks like Ben's - though his nose looks like Mikhail.

JediXAngel, I agree with you, there is absoloutely NOTHING after the X-File mytharc episodes. The standalone episodes were beyond-great too, all of them, but some just were terrible because it wast the X-Files and not a comedy show.

Though I agree, nothing comes close to even the lamest mytharc one :)

I watch Lost because it's a decent show, and everything else because there's nothing else to watch (Law and Order, Without a Trace.. Raines)

omg that episode was awesome. some answers were finally given. just as the episode was starting even before lockes mom called her husband roger i thought wait what if roger was bens dad then it was confirmed was slightley weird lol. lmao at locke beating the hell out of patchy aswell lol.

if only eko was still alive then the others wouldnt have a chance eko>>>you.

One of the first things I thought of when locke noticed that "ash" was volcanic ash, as the teacher mentioned there was a volcanic eruption on the island at some point. Whatever it is, it was definitely laid out in a specific circle. So I think Jacob will save Locke, maybe even speak to him through smokey and Locke will free him.

People are saying that Richard doesn't age. I'm not so sure that's necessarily the case. There are plenty of ways to make an actor look older, but making an actor look younger is a tough sell.

The long hair and hippy-ish clothes might have been the signal that we were looking at a younger Richard. I just think, that if the show was going to imply that Richard doesn't age, they wouldn't have changed his appearance at all and made a more direct reference to that fact.

Yeah, I couldn't help but feel that all that pharoah eye-shadow was to make sure he'd be easily identifiable to the viewers.

When we saw Richard of 30 years back, it was him - that eye shadow is unmistakable. If they really wanted him to look different, that's pretty much guaranteed to do the trick.

I just thought of something... the whispers that can be heard on the island, that are asking for help (if I remember correctly). Maybe these are the lost souls of those killed by the Others. Just like Jacob asked for help in a whisper to Locke, maybe there are more our there that cannot be seen, but can be heard by some.

Something to note:

it was ben's father..just a matter of respect to the treat the body

Bingo. Richard's lack of aging is a reference to The Lost Boys as suggested earlier in "The Other 48 Days" with the teddy bear.

Would you mind expanding on that? I'm not following.

Yeah, I couldn't help but feel that all that pharoah eye-shadow was to make sure he'd be easily identifiable to the viewers.

What's odd is that he's always had that thick eyeliner, regardless of what role he's playing and what show he's on.

It was weird how Jacob technically wasn't real...I actually laughed when there was just a chair in the room...because all week I had said I bet Jacob isn't real hence why he wasn't credited in the guest list...but then bam there he was for a split second...hmmm....its weird he has clothes on like a native...

    • This is about the EU given consumers options, Apple is all about not giving options and locking you into its own services, this hurts Apple far more than it hurts the EU market because it makes Apple products look less appealing by Apple refusing to offer its own service because they have to give options to rivals, the end results are consumers might look at alternatives like Android. It's a game Apple can't really win when there are alternatives and Apple will in time change course on this, until then, let Apple hurt themselves in the EU market.
    • Microsoft unveils new Surface Laptop with improved trackpad, Snapdragon X2, and more by Taras Buria Microsoft's new Surface Laptop Ultra generated a lot of buzz earlier this month, but in addition to its most powerful laptop with an NVIDIA chip, Microsoft also has a more affordable laptop lineup, which has been waiting for an update for quite a while. Today, Microsoft announced the eighth-generation Surface Laptop. The new Surface Laptop is powered by the Snapdragon X2 Plus and X2 Elite processors. These chips offer faster CPU performance, up to 58% faster graphics, and 80 TOPS Neural Processing Units (NPUs) for on-device AI processing. Like the previous models, these chips retain their great energy efficiency, and Microsoft says that buyers can expect up to 20 hours of work on a single charge. The laptop is available in two sizes: 13.8-inch and 15-inch. You will have a hard time finding visual differences between the new and previous models, as Microsoft is not taking any major design leaps, except for the new Jade color, which may look familiar to Surface Laptop 5 owners. Other colors include Platinum, Black, and Dune. The 15-inch variant got a higher-resolution display. It is a 3,270 x 2,180 resolution screen with a pixel density of 262 ppi (the 13-inch model has a 201 ppi density) and a maximum brightness of 600 nits SDR and HDR. Unlike the Surface Pro 12th-gen, which is available with optional OLED displays, the Surface Laptop sticks with IPS, a 1,300:1 contrast ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Another notable change in the Surface Laptop 8 is its trackpad. It now provides haptic feedback when you perform various actions in apps and the operating system. It is a relatively new feature that Microsoft brought to Windows 11 in recent updates, and it is only available on certain devices, such as the Logitech MX Master 4, Surface Slim Pen 2, the upcoming Surface Laptop Ultra, and now the Surface Laptop 8. The new Surface Laptop with the new Surface Pro Like its tablet-shaped sibling, the new Surface Laptop is notably more expensive. It starts at a $1,599 for a 13.8-inch configuration with a 256GB SSD and 16GB of RAM. However, in the US, the base model has double the storage while keeping the same price. Available configurations include up to 64GB of memory and up to 2TB SSD (user-removable PCIe Gen4). The Surface Laptop 8 is now available for purchase on the official Microsoft website.
    • Microsoft announces 12th-gen Surface Pro with Snapdragon X2 processors by Taras Buria So far, 2026 has been rich in Surface announcements. Microsoft started with a fresh lineup of Surface for Business devices powered by Intel's new Core Ultra 300 processors. Then the company revealed the Surface Laptop Ultra, its most powerful laptop with NVIDIA's RTX Spark processor. Now, it is time for new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models with Qualcomm processors. Microsoft's original Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon X1 chips debuted in late May 2024. Two years later, Microsoft is finally updating the lineup with new models featuring Snapdragon X2 processors. The 12th-gen Surface Pro continues the well-established formula of Microsoft's flagship tablet, and Microsoft is not even changing colors, as the tablet will be available in three colors: Dune, Black, and Platinum. The most important changes are mostly hidden inside. Microsoft switched from the Snapdragon X1 to the new Snapdragon X2, which promises up to 53% faster graphics performance than the previous generation and up to 15.5 hours of battery life. The built-in NPU is also much more powerful, and it can run at up to 80 TOPS for on-device AI processing. Like before, the new Surface Pro is available with a 13-inch IPS display, and Microsoft is still offering OLED as a separate, more expensive configuration. Speaking of configurations, the Surface Pro will be available with a 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus or a 12-core Snapdragon X2 Elite. Microsoft expanded the available RAM configurations to 64GB (previously 32GB was the maximum), while storage remains unchanged at 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of user-replaceable PCIe Gen4 SSDs. The new Surface Pro and the Surface Laptop Other specs remain mostly unchanged. The computer has the same 1440p Windows Hello webcam, two USB4 ports for charging, data, and display output, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support, dual speakers, and compatibility with Surface Pro Signature and Flex keyboards. With that said, there is one very important aspect of the Surface Pro that changed significantly, and it is the price. While the previous-gen Surface Pro launched at $999 for the base configuration, in 2026, the entry-level Surface Pro with Snapdragon X2, 16GB of memory, and 256GB will set you back an eye-watering $1,499. To sweeten the pill, Microsoft is running a limited-time promotion where Surface Pro buyers can get a free Surface Pro 13-inch Keyboard. The promo runs from June 16 through June 30. The new Surface Pro is available now on the official Microsoft Store website.
