If a 3rd party application doesn't work... it's the software developers fault. Have you tried a 3rd party app that can do the same job instead?

Gaim and trillian i cant get to work either, which to me is good because i dont like either one of them. It just sucks this far along that they dont work, hopefully the next build.

Can anyone shed some light into why exactly NOD32 and other popular AV programmes etc dont run? It ****es me off as like alot of you, Ive paid for NOD32 and to be told I cant run it...

although as people have mentioned its using common sense to avoid viruses it would still be nice to have an AV programme.

NOD32 screws up the TCP/IP stack in Vista. Of course, you can always just turn off IMON. Too bad Vista doesn't even allow us to install it now...

Okay, Im using Pre-RC1 and I must say it's running great on my setup, triple booting at this moment between Win XP, Win XP 64 and Pre-RC1. I finally got sound! Previously my Creative Labs sound card would crash Beta 2. I am installing WoW to see if it can play. Hoping RC1 will be great. I am definately buying the Ultimate Edition when it comes out next year!

A few quick questions before installing this.

I have it mounted with Alcohol 120% and it seems alright, though I could be wrong. Is it possible for a clean install off this?

Options were Upgrade and Custom. I do not want to upgrade. The other option says "Custom" which says it will erase everything, I assume this is the same as a fresh installation.

I'm wondering if it's possible to do that with it mounted on Alcohol 120%. A fresh installation.

The previews are cool

But wouldnt it be more useful if you could see the last message the person left you for each box if you left ur mouse on it for a half second or so?

Its the last wallpaper on the list here

Installing from a virtual drive is A-OK. Setup won't require the disc after the intial copying. It's how i do it otherwise i wouldn't be able test the thing at all except for milestones.

I've heard a few bad things about nvidia drivers. I just downloaded 88.61_forceware_vista_x86_international, I want to know if this is good for Vista 5536 and a 6800 GT? I heard something about a black screen or whatever it was.

Also, I noticed the CPU jumps sometimes, is there a fix for that? Or recommended ways to tweak the system?

Indeed, those drivers are going to give you a black screen on build 5536 and 5552 as far as we know. Stick with the OS supplied drivers and wait for NVIDIA to release new drivers, my guess is that these will come out with the RC1 release. In the meantime you should be able to run some games(with a little bit performance loss). CPU jumping is probably indexing service or something like that, this will dissapear after a while.

It was messing around with the shift key and closing windows that seems to have caused this problem. Toggling with the shift key didn't work, however.

EDIT: OK, I opened a different drive with filenames displayed and made it the default view in Folder Options.

I just noticed if you press shift when right-clicking on a folder that you get two new commands on the context menu - Open Command Window Here and Copy As Path.

IE doesn't seem to want to connect to Adobe to download Flash/Shockwave. I had to open Firefox and download it. Hmmm...

Windows seems to be turning into Mac....slow and pretty.

Yea OS X is pretty damn fast and efficient when it comes to speed, at least for me. And considering that I can run 12 programs at once including dreamweaver, aperture, and photoshop, and still not have any noticeable sluggishness on my aging G4 PowerBook, I'd say its pretty damn fast, lol.

Regardless of hardware, OSX just feels slow, moving windows, moving the cursor, scrolling pages, even the minimise 'genie effect' is way too bloated, and just takes too long - its just a case of slowly does it.

The good thing about Vista is it retains its fast Windows style feel.

    • I named Hitler because he is the de facto anti-semite. But you don't have to hate Jews to be a genocidal maniac. In fact, these days, so called semites are the ones acting in ways that would make Hitler proud.

    • Apple reluctantly forces strict new age checks on Texas users starting today by Paul Hill Apple will begin enforcing the Texas Age Assurance Law (SB 2420) following a recent court ruling that lifted an injunction on SB 2420. Starting June 4 (today), Apple will enforce strict age-verification and parental-consent rules for new Apple accounts created in Texas. This move will affect children under 18 who go to download apps or attempt to make in-app purchases. Apple previously expressed privacy concerns related to this law, but compliance is now mandatory for the company, nevertheless. Apple will use several APIs to follow the law. Principally, the Declared Age Range API will fetch the specific user age bracket (Under 13, 13-15, 16-17, or 18+) and a verification method. The Significant Change API (PermissionKit) will trigger a system dialog for parental consent if an app gets a major update or an age-rating shift. There is also a new property type in StoreKit that allows developers to automatically check when their app’s age rating has changed on a user’s device and then use the Significant Change API to request parental consent. Finally, App Store Server Notifications can be configured to tell developers when a parent revokes consent, blocking app launches. To ensure they are ready for these changes, developers must immediately use Apple’s sandbox testing environment to validate these APIs in their apps. For any developers out there finding this to be inconvenient, get used to it. Other regions, such as Utah, Louisiana, and Brazil, are looking at, or have implemented, similar rules.
