iMac 24" Released!

Recommended Posts

There has to be a hidden agenda here - 24" iMacs right before this special event on the 12th? Surely this is timed just so that its affordable enough for people to want to make their Mac their home entertainment centre, and buy lots of nice videos off the iTMS..

Woo! I just ordered a new 20" iMac and upgraded the ram to 2gb, the graphics to 256mb, and went with the wireless keyboard/mouse set.

This is the first desktop Mac I will have ever owned. I own a 900mhz G3 14.1" iBook (Jaguar), but with only 256mb of ram and such a small screen, I almost never use it.

I'm very excited. My current PC is so old (.13m P4 2.53ghz NO h/t) and loud. I'll be glad to be able to leave my computer on over night without feeling like I'm living on an aircraft carrier with jets constantly on the move.

I wanted the 24" since it has the NVIDIA graphics, a brighter screen and better speakers, but it's just too big for my desk setup, and it was about $500 more than I had saved to spend on a new machine. Too bad it's going to be an estimated 2 weeks before the machine is actually in my possession.

1 INCH MORE THAN WHAT I EXPECTED.

And... I can get an nVidia 7600GT w/ 256MB of RAM!

I am so pleased right now...!!!!!! That made my day, and even my week.

Ordering an iMac tonight, and selling my PC next week! :)

PS: Why wasn't it released yesterday or on the 12? Did they have problems yesterday!?

I just ordered two 24'' ones from store.apple.com! One for my wife and one for me. I am FINALLY switching back to Mac after about ten years on Windows. Now that I can dual boot, I finally decided to give in.

They arrive in the Seattle area where I live on Sept 19th. I can't wait!

Well someone is loaded :p

Well if you're buying two, you might as well get another for me

Two 24" is a little exaggerated :p

Hey, the 7600GT is 2.3 times better than the X1600.. I can play games pretty well on the "now-old" 17" iMac, so I can't imagine with that...

Student prices are great, I think I got a 12.5% off! It's better than nothing :p (actually it's a good rebate)

24" is go for christmas :D, parents said they would pay a sum and I make up the rest, starting saving .......NOW :D

I'd like to see some performance comparisons between the 2.16 and 2.33ghz, i can't see that the difference is worth the ?150 it costs to upgrade (UK HE site that is). Think i'll just save the money from upgrading the cpu and upgrade memory to 2GB and the graphics card to the 256mb 7600GT, You guys think I would notice more of a performance boost from that rather than upgrading to the 2.33 CPU?

EDIT: Found some tests: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=288

Wouldn't say it is worth the extra cash for the 2.33ghz tbh:ss

Yeah, God bless the education discount. My shipping and delivery dates are the same - it's all worth the wait though. My iMac is replacing a 1.2GHz Celeron with 256mb of RAM and Windows - and I've been working and saving for this for over a year, so I can handle a few more weeks of waiting. :)

Over here we can get an NUS discount, not sure if its the same as you, but we get an educational one, then an NUS which gives us more off.

So in this case:

Standard 24" iMac: ?1,349.01, $2,514.95

Education Discount: ?1,267.83, $2,363.60

NUS Discount: ?1,173.83, $2,188.36

    • Apple reluctantly forces strict new age checks on Texas users starting today by Paul Hill Apple will begin enforcing the Texas Age Assurance Law (SB 2420) following a recent court ruling that lifted an injunction on SB 2420. Starting June 4 (today), Apple will enforce strict age-verification and parental-consent rules for new Apple accounts created in Texas. This move will affect children under 18 who go to download apps or attempt to make in-app purchases. Apple previously expressed privacy concerns related to this law, but compliance is now mandatory for the company, nevertheless. Apple will use several APIs to follow the law. Principally, the Declared Age Range API will fetch the specific user age bracket (Under 13, 13-15, 16-17, or 18+) and a verification method. The Significant Change API (PermissionKit) will trigger a system dialog for parental consent if an app gets a major update or an age-rating shift. There is also a new property type in StoreKit that allows developers to automatically check when their app’s age rating has changed on a user’s device and then use the Significant Change API to request parental consent. Finally, App Store Server Notifications can be configured to tell developers when a parent revokes consent, blocking app launches. To ensure they are ready for these changes, developers must immediately use Apple’s sandbox testing environment to validate these APIs in their apps. For any developers out there finding this to be inconvenient, get used to it. Other regions, such as Utah, Louisiana, and Brazil, are looking at, or have implemented, similar rules.
    • They should show the onedrive recycle bin in a searchable manner and on app not just on the website
