apul
I saw this movie 124577999 times. in 1979, Francis Ford Coppola achieved this jewel. A great lesson of cinema. I love Marlon Brando/Martin Sheen "duo", that's very psychological. This film is very worked. ;) I think to a big 9.8/10. (Y)
Dick Montage
100% agree. Watched this over 3 days when I was supposed to be revising for my 1st year degree exams. What a tour de force of cinema!
Brodel
You should watch it all in one go, splitting films never works as well as one sitting. I think the film itself was really good, although to be honest I don't feel that the Redux version was that much better with the extra 50mins or so. Captain_Wang
Amazing film, Brando is honestly disturbing to watch in it, he did a good job. I don't think I can think of something I disliked about the film.
sanctified Veteran Posted September 6, 2006 Veteran Share Posted September 6, 2006 Now this is a great movie. Unlike the hollywood blockbusters of recent years.

SunnyB
So many great actors in that movie. Sheen, Brando, Harrison Ford, Robert Duvall, Laurence Fishburne, Scott Glenn, Dennis Hopper. Great lines that will be the basis for so many quotes. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" "This war will end someday young captain" "You either surf or you fight" "Who's your commanding officer soldier?" "Ain't you?" And my personal favorite: "God damn right. Never get out of the boat" It's destined to be a classic like "Gone With The Wind", "Wizard of Oz" and "It's A Wonderful Life". Shibby
I watched it twice and i sort of stuggled to keep up with it most of the time. But i will give it a good rating because it was a very differnt movie. I watched it twice and i sort of stuggled to keep up with it most of the time. jamend
My favourite film... I agree that the Redux didn't really make it better, although it did fill in a few blanks.

Boxster17
I love war movies, but for some reason I never really cared for this one much. I always hated the ending of it, so I think that kind of ruined the rest of it for me.
Captain_Wang
Seeing that cows head get hacked off wasn't pleasant but I guess it was a way of portraying "the horror" to the audience. It worked on me, bleugh.
apul
The opening is very subtle, with "The Doors - This is the end", Coppola totally controls the subject.

The Gunslinger
Think everyone pretty much summed it up. A true work of art. I love war movies, but for some reason I never really cared for this one much. I always hated the ending of it, so I think that kind of ruined the rest of it for me. Dont know if this qualifies as a true war movie. Apocalypse Now, to me is more of a study of the evil present in man, set during the Vietnam War. Platoon was also a brilliant Vietnam war movie. this movie is a masterpiece. this movie talks about what true horror is martin sheen and marlon brando gave great performances. the soundtrack was amazing. really recommend it as a war movie. 9.9/10. Loved the soundtrack, really worked well with the movie. The Doors ROCK...!!!...
El Bourricot
My favourite movie. Spotless from beginning to end, a depth rarely equalled, just straight and to the point. Story is very well thought out, and throughout the film you're never really sure what the hell's going on. Most of the boat going up the river had me actually scared.
