 Paint.NET ROCKS!!!!

The taskbar (bottom) looks a bit freaky because it was done in 3 minutes. The 'depressed' button, the one that's a bit elevated than the rest (in this case, Microsoft Word 2010) represents what the currently in-focus window is, and it displays thumbnails of the application instances which you can scroll by hovering.

Koreaa(sp?) Linux ring a bell?

well, after reading all 36 pages and seeing all the concepts, i got tired of this, and things a like

Windows_Vista_Logo_by_Emexci.png

so i was thinking, remember when the transition from Win2K to XP came about? the logo changed! why not in two more generations eh?

so this is what i made in photoshop in about 10 seconds, wasnt hard at all

logolw0.png

you can do what ever to it, i dont care, darken it (which i should do some time later), distort it, give it a mustache...

if i can do this (im 14 mind you,) than most of the people on here can probably manage. i didnt even read any tutorials. never have read tutorials for PS

and i dont want any of this "ohhh its to different" crap, yeah its different, get over it. plus, didnt microsoft say that Vienna or fiji or w/e was going to completly change the UI of Windows? So that should mean the logo too, right?

PS. I only joined so i could post that... ill draw some concept on paper tonight then Photoshop it later if i have some time after school...

Haha. I remember being egotistical at your age :D

(Psst! No one cares. Any 8-year-old these days can code and do graphics design :p)

Aaaaaaaaanyway.... y'all are forgetting (or do not even know) how much time and research has gone into the Segoe UI font at Microsoft Typography. It has been designed to be legible and very clear in both ClearType display and in print, which is difficult to do in a font. Every small tweak such as the changing of an angle in the swoop of a lowercase "g" took sessions of discussion and research. Without a doubt, Microsoft will be using this font for their product line for many years to come as they already have been doing everywhere. So my question: WHY AREN'T YOU GUYS _USING_ it in your art? now get going! USE it!!!

2nd thing I wanted to point out is that Microsoft's current homepage (with their SilverLight stuff), and Microsoft Surface, both are excellent indicators of Microsoft's direction in terms of UI. Sooo...... WHY ARE YOU GUYS MAKING SUCH CLUTTERED INTERFACES? haha well no only some of you are and some aren't.... Think about it: a person would feel intimidated going up to a computer with 3459034 little boxes of text and alerts and notices and icons flashing and beeping everywhere.....

anyhow i hope that enlightens ppl to make more realistic art... the latest design fad/trend is simplicity......

With the taskbar?

I'd hit it.

I have an idea.

Using that login screen, you log in (obviously), and the Windows Aqua bubble pops up right up in the middle of the screen with the OS X dash ripple effect. It has a nice blue background and all it say is "Start". When you click it, the logo instantly magnifies as if you are flying into it. There are four quadrants. Media, Programs, Live, and Settings. These replace the whole system interface. And they are color coded acording to the windows logo. Kind of like the 360. The quads display useful info without accessing them. When you press any one of the quads, the section pops up on your screen. Here are some Models:

Start

Layout

Media "Blade"

Use wahtever kind of Logo you guys want, I like this one:

i like your concept (Y)

the start button, no toolbar, and launch two apps at once.

haha thanks. that's actually not a start button really.... first off my concept was to keep it simple where you type a very "key" word to do things. common sense would do things you want but you can also assign "key" words to perform all kinds of tasks if you so wish.

but then i thought oh boy it would be too difficult for someone to get around without SOMETHING to click on to get to things such as the control panel, turn off the computer, or a windows explorer to manage files, without having to type something into the start field. so i made that roller ticker at the lower left where you go up and down to common tasks like Switch User, Lock your computer, etc. (like you see in vista when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL). so it's a multifunction button really.

heres my shot

just the main desktop really dont know what to do with the windows and all

omg how did you make a spin-off of my screenshot so soon? lol okay okay i know the color scheme looks VERY microsoft-like, but it's not an official screenshot..... in case u though it was haha

but yea you understood my concept of having a multifunction ticker at the bottom left. i like your idea better where you can type the actual task in there rather than the center of the screen. my approach is more suitable for people on a Media Center computer with a wireless/remote keyboard.

Those look cool. Oh, here is my updated images:

The start text could be at the bottom or in the middle,

Bottom

Middle

Here is a regular image. When you mouse over the orb, the "start" text appears and the backgorund blurs out. When you click the logo, the logo zooms in.

thank you, i went ahead and clarified just a little bit ideally both could be used like MCE, pretty well done though =)

i do like the scroller idea instead of having the big old start menu and such just have it preloaded with a few programs and then some common tasks, so it would have like maybe 10 things or less on a default install :p

i think if microsoft implimented something like this it could work especially if seven was a new code base (think of when mac switched from os 9 to osx)

Hi guys, this is my first post on these forums, and I actually joined after seeing this thread, some of this stuff is amazing especially yours DigitalSoft.

I don't have Photoshop and Im pretty sure it's really complex so this is done in PowerPoint 2007, any input would be great.

Anyway, Ive had this idea in my head for a while, going along the idea of using the Orb as a starting point, thought Id put it up here. More likely to be a PowerToy or Ultimate Extra than the actual version cos its so different. Anyways it works basically like media centre, click one of the menu items (Documents, Media Centre, Live, Office etc.) and you kinda zoom into that thing, with that menu item becoming the centre etc. I got loads more [arts of this concept to put up so tell me whatya think.

Can anyone tell me what they said?

Resurection!

No, I don't have Photoshop, but I think LiveQuartz serves the purpose.

Here is the home screen, reminiscent of late 360 dashboard. Four "blades" which display current and up to date information about programs, network, media, and your system. Very convinient in displaying relevant data. You can see that Windows LIVE has been built into Windows Rome.

WindowsRome.png

Like the Xbox, the new interface will display updates on friends in Windows messenger, or downloads from the Windows/Zune marketplace, etc. WindowsRome-1.png

The new media center delivers a simplistic interface to access Photos, Music, Movies, and Live television. Also allows for quick access to the Dashboard, if needed, which also allows for a open, more interactive feel.

WindowsMediacenter.png

And like the task manager menu in Vista, the control panel displays important selections such as shutting down your system, and terminating all feeble lifeforms around you. :D

Here is an example of the innovative new menu for organizing your programs.

I really should read entire threads before posting ideas, but this occurred to me back on page 2.

If we took advantage of the scroll wheel for program lists (ie., start menu), it would be interesting to have the most commonly run program immediately centered on the cursor, with other apps alternating above and below, further and further up/down the list in order of popularity. This way you would only have to scroll up or down a small amount to get to programs you run very often.

For the menu to work with centering, the position of its trigger (ie., start button) would need to be rethought. Or even replaced with a mouse gesture (clever use of gesturing could allow easy access to a program launcher independent of pointer position). Indeed, I would love to see a GUI that takes full advantage of gesturing that can cleverly translate between a two/three button wheel mouse and a multi-touch pad (to open up that market more and give touchpads a chance at becoming less marginalized, if users find they like them). A touchpad-friendly gesture-oriented GUI could also eliminate one of the largest complaints about laptop computer input.

If anything, I believe mouse gestures have much more potential than touch screens, at least for the next decade or two. Putting some hardcore thought into that could goes against the flow of Gates' vision (the man is way too one-track about interactive screens in his dream of, someday, every household surface becoming a computer display at a touch), but taking it far enough in an intuitive way would allow Microsoft to firmly establish itself as an innovator while putting Apple indisputably in the position of playing catch-up.

    • I'm not unblocking my camera for this crapola. Sorry, Google.
    • Ummmm that is what is it supposed to do. Just turn if off in settings if you do not want it analyzing your open tabs. Chrome does the same thing with Gemini. Sarfari will do the samething after Apple's AI and even more so with the release of their 27 versions that is now powered by Googles LLM/ML models. Understanding why it is doing it and how it can help you vs jumping to some conspiracy theroy is a much better approach. As long as it can be turned off, all is good. Yes the default should be off but the a lot of people would never discover these features.
    • Just another reason (aside from many others) not to use Edge. Firefox 153.0b5 DEx64 has a similar feature added recently in prior builds that I will turn off at some point when I get around to it. It's the new "Something looks suspicious" page that pops up here and there. It cleverly hides itself between web pages that I've actually visited; as a result, you know, of selecting a web page and telling the browser where to go. The interesting thing is that it does not produce these warnings from pages that I, as the only intelligent user of the browser in my system, have ever directed the browser to open! What seems to be happening is that the browser looks at all the goofy ad links on a web page I do actually open and selects one that "looks suspicious" and then creates the "something looks suspicious" web page, which is neatly inserted, as mentioned, between web pages my RB ("real brain") has directed the browser to load in a session. The thing is, I usually look at links I am considering to follow before I ask the browser to load them, and in cases I have noticed where the link does indeed look suspicious, most of the time I will choose to not follow the link at all. Doesn't everyone do this or something similar? I am picky about what I voluntarily load... (I don't like links that start off fine, with a site designaiton that seems normal enough but then is followed by indecipherable alphanumeric strings many, many lines long, etc. I tend to reject those because they look suspicious. They may not be, but I don't care... I'll stay with Firefox, of course, if for no other reason than they usually let you turn off the junk you don't like. And because it isn't Edge... But at some point Microsoft will come to realize that putting your bookmarks on the left side is a Good Thing for a lot of people, just as Microsoft discovered when it had the bright idea of nailing the Windows taskbar to the bottom of the screen, when for decades Microsoft browsers had left that placement up to the user. They have finally reversed the obscenity of that decision. Finally.
    • Google was using the old CATPCHAs data to train their LLMs. What is the say they won't use this camera data of users to train their LLM? these companies need some strict regulations!
