Ticket sales, maybe.

Oscar, No, A great performance earns Oscar... and his was TRULY Great, no joke or exaggeration about it, whatsoever!

You have to keep in mind, before I go see this movie, I really doubted heath's performance is as good as people said he was myself, BUT I was SOLD when I saw it!!!

His BEST scenes, IMO are not found in the trailers!

Jedi, one question. Which actor/actress that you've seen this year that also deserve an Oscar?

Unfortunately, not a lot movies this year are as good as Batman Dark Knight or close to it!

I saw a lot of movies, but Batman The Dark Knight Lives up to the Hype, Totally!!!

A+ Action

A+ Acting

A+ Story/Plot

A+ Directing

Just curious. Because if you've only seen big summer blockbuster movies, you're gonna miss out on other performances. Why should they get shaft on the award because an actor is part of a summer box office movie. You got to play fair with everyone.

OK Tell me which movies YOU feel are also great in acting!

This year? I don't know since I didn't watch that many indie films. But I'm not going to say Ledger deserves that award & it should be a lock for him to win when I've yet to see every other movies. Those academy people have.

Dude, the academy is a Bigot against All types of Superhero, Sci-Fi movies, haven't you noticed? (No matter how good it really is, they always prefer a Drama over sci-fi/superhero movie)

They are just like don't respect those enough.

It's very Unfair.

"The Dark Knight" may be racking up rave reviews and breaking ticket sales record, but fans are already salivating to know: when will we get a sequel?

Dateine Hollywood has the surprising answer: Warner Bros. has lined up stylish German director Uwe Boll ("Postal," "Bloodrayne") to direct a sequel coming out in 2009 that will be called "The Dark Knight Forever." And now that Christian Bale is moving onto other projects, the studio has picked another star to take his place as Batman: every lady's favorite TV pretty boy, Patrick Dempsey (pictured left, with Boll).

"We established a very successful pattern for our 'Batman' movies in the '90s of first producing two dark, moody, well respected films and then following them up with big budget debacles helmed by a hack director and starring good looking, dull actors," said Warner Bros. production CEO Alan Horn. "We're very excited to have the opportunity to drive a new 21st century 'Batman' franchise into the ground in the same way."

According to sources, a team of 13 screenwriters is already working on "The Dark Knight Forever," which will feature Bat-villains Mad Hatter, Mr. Freeze, Man-Bat, Killer Croc, and King Tut teaming up against Dempsey's Batman and new allies Robin, Batgirl, Batwoman and Bat-mite, an imp from another dimension.

!!!!!!!

Funny you say that because so many people here kept talking about how bad Holmes was and how great of an actress Gyllenhal is.

Normally I would agree, but I thought Holmes fit the role perfectly and this was probably Gyllenhl's worst acting performance I've ever seen. She just didn't evoke any emotions from me, and I bought into her being the new Rachel -- that wasn't the problem. The problem was her performance just seemed lifeless. I'd have much preferred Holmes kept the role.

Agreed, but for different reasons.

This is going to sound harsh, as I actually do like her as an actor, but my biggest issue is she is just not that good looking, and in fact in this movie I thought she was pretty damn ugly. As such I just was not fully believing that two men would be fighting over the love of such an undesirable women looks wise (especially a playboy such as Bruce Wayne). I know, I know, her character represented pure good and all of that stuff, but I am talking from a purely visual standpoint, and she just is not that good looking.

I think she did ok. She really didn't get that much screen time IMHO and what little she did was usually a scene focused on Bale and Harvey Dent with her delegated to the sidelines. It was more a scripting thing IMHO than it was her.

I saw the movie yesterday after work (left work 2hrs early to see it), and I have to say it's by far the best Batman movie ever made. Not only that, but the best comic book/super hero movie as well. Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker was simply amazing, and I can't say enough about it. But I agree with what someone else said in this thread, that his best scenes were not in the trailer (ie. the hospital scene and the interrogation scene).

Overall, I wouldn't give the movie a 10/10 because it wasn't perfect. I would give it a 9.5/10 though The sonar thing in Hong Kong and at the end of the movie were kind of weird lol. Honestly, I really want to see this movie again, but more than anything, I want to see it in HD in my own home. I'm hoping that it'll be out by Christmas, because if so, this may be the movie that gets me to make the jump over to Blu-Ray, because DVD won't be enough. I can't really say anything else that hasn't already been said about this movie Did they really have to destroy the tumbler though?. I do have a question though for those that have seen the movie. This is a spoiler for those who haven't though, so don't look if you don't want to know lol:

In the scene where they blew up the tumbler and introduced the Batpod, did anyone else think this was very similar to the way they showed the Bat Missle in Batman Returns?

Overall, this was a great movie, and it's one of the very select few I've seen that lived up to all the hype. My expectations going into the movie were set extremely high and I didn't walk away disappointed.

OMG! Wow! Amazing! Awesome! Totally great! I saw the movie today and it has been around 4 hours since it was over. I must say, that the movie was great and excellent and I will talk about that later but now let me talk about my horrible experience.

On Thursday, when the weekend schedule was finally released in my local theatre PVR Cinemas (New Delhi, India), I tried to buy tickets online. The first day show at 11:30 PM was sold out so I couldn't go for that. So we tried to book for the next day )Saturday) 1:45 PM show and we tried to book online. Now we tried six different times and way but it just would not work. We tried to book every way online but it would just not work. So me and my sister went down to the theatre and bought our tickets. We were soo excited about this movie.

On Saturday, we left at 1:00 PM (my sister wanted to get there really early!)... and we walked into the cinema at 1:35 PM. I bough a sprite and we entered the hall.

5 minutes after we entered, a whole bunch of kids (below 10 years) entered. There were atleast 25 of them. It was some kids birthday party. Me and my sister and the 2 people next to us were the only ones super excited about the film and the only 2 who were quiet during the film. The kids next to us (all party of the birthday party) couldn't stop talking and we were like shouting at them! We were sooo ****ed off with them. They totally ruined the first half of the film for us and even some of the second half. (There is an intermission over here). I wanted to go for the next show just to be in peace and quiet cinema. The rest of the hall was reletively quiet though they were making noises as well. I feel like it was a wasted movie experience.

This was a violent film and there were kids who were like 5 or 6 years old. Parents should not be allowed to bring them for these kinds of movies. A bunch of kids should never be allowed inside a hall if they don't know how to behave. These kids should be barred from coming to movies all together. I am going to be going again and hopefully it will be better this time.

The movie; What a freakin brilliant movie man! Why So Serious??? OMG! The Joker from the moment he came on screen took over the whole movie. He was the whole movie. Christopher Nolan may not be able to top this film. THis was one masterpiece and deserves to be nominated for best picture. As it was in the small theatre out of 6 theatres here, there was only one trailer ands that was Hellboy 2. The acting was just simply amazing!. Heath Ledger blew everyone away simply. The hostipal scene was just simply awesome. Pulled of too perfection by Christopher Nolan. Also the scene where they captured the Joker was pretty cool. Hats of to the whole crew who made this possible.

Thats all. I will post more on this later.

Here is to another Batman and another amazing epic movie!

BTW - This movie is now Number 3 on the IMDB Top 250 Movies. It displaced The Godfather: Part II! Awesome!

Something has to be weird with IMDB's system though since it only has 7041 votes

But I'm going to see it tonight for a friend's birthday.

IMDB's system is flawed that a film that has just come out can go up the chart so quickly and so high, over time will be the test really Godfather has been top for like 5 years now in 5 years time I doubt Dark Knight will be in top 10.

@shiven in this post somewhere all the posters are in HQ including that one.
