To most everyone who saw ?The Dark Knight? this summer ? and by now, who didn?t see ?The Dark Knight? ? whether you liked the story or not, one thing darn-near everyone agrees on is Heath Ledger not only stole the show, but managed to completely transform the character of the Joker to a point where Hollywood will be hard pressed to find a suitable replacement should the character factor into future ?Batman? films.

And now, DC Comics has delivered an original graphic novel that does for the comic book Joker what Ledger did for the film?s. Writer Brian Azzarello and artist Lee Bermejo?s ?Joker? ? which hits shelves October 29 ? paints the ?Clown Prince of Crime? as a sadistic, unpredictable and absurdly violent psychopath, or in other words, exactly the way the character should be portrayed. And while the story takes place well-outside the realm of Christopher Nolan?s vision of Gotham City, if you liked ?The Dark Knight,? ?Joker? is a must-have for your bookshelf.

But please, don?t take our word for it ? check out Splash Page?s exclusive sneak peek of the book and see for yourself.

The story ? narrated through the voice of one of the Joker?s recently-hired goons ? follows the just-released-from-Arkham Asylum villain as he seeks to reclaim his rightful spot at the top of Gotham criminal hierarchy by any means necessary. In order to get to that spot again, he?ll have to face the rest of Gotham?s top dogs ? including Two-Face, The Riddler, Killer Croc and the Penguin (who shows up in the preview pages below).

LA Times Interviews Christopher Nolan

The Los Angeles Times has posted the first part of its three-part interview with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan in which he briefly addresses what will determine whether he'll be back for a third film:

Well ... let me think how to put this. There are two things to be said. One is the emphasis on story. What?s the story? Is there a story that?s going to keep me emotionally invested for the couple of years that it will take to make another one? That?s the overriding question. On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question: How many good third movies in a franchise can people name? [Laughs.] At the same time, in taking on the second one, we had the challenge of trying to make a great second movie, and there haven't been too many of those either. It?s all about the story really. If the story is there, everything is possible. I hope that was a suitably slippery answer.

You can read the first part of the interview here.

The Last Crusade is the best movie of the Indiana Jones franchise, and until quite recently there were three films. TDK is for me too a huge masterpiece, but it's possible for Nolan to make a third Batman better than The Dark Knight. Like he said, it's all about the story.

Easily one of the best movies ever made. If your not picking this movie on BD your crazy! ;)

Well, what if you don't have a Blu-ray player. I'll be getting this movie on DVD though. ;)

But I do agree, this has got to be the best movie. Probably the best in the planet. It's a shame that it didn't beat Titanic. Argh!

Having watched "Crystal Skull" on the flight to Bangkok, I am firmly putting my hands over my ears and screaming "Blah blah blah - there are still only 3 films!"

:shiftyninja:

Don't do it!

IMAX scenes are cropped. Apparently there are some stores selling these now according to some bluray forums. Surely they'll get in deep **** with Warner?

    • You can't, if you didn't notice, it doesn't support surround at all, it's right in the spec list.
    • Hi — I’m always interested in soundcards. Like displays, I just want to know I’m getting as much clean “sonic juice” into my brain as possible as the years take their toll. I’m not entirely sure what to take away from this review, though. It doesn’t really tell me whether the AE‑X is a good product or who it’s actually for. Most of what I’m getting is: there’s a driver to install, here’s what it looks like, and here’s what’s in the box. There’s a lot of emphasis on the SPDIF input. When you mention not needing to switch headphones between console and PC — does that mean the PC has to be powered on just to pass audio through? That seems like a fairly big waste of energy. Is this more something a streamer would use alongside a capture card? How are you testing the sound? (Also, you might want to clarify that you’re using the headphones in wired mode when you mention they’re wireless.) You mention the lack of EMI shielding — how much real‑world difference does that make compared with typical motherboard audio? On multi‑channel: what exactly isn’t supported? Does this mean Windows spatial audio (Dolby Atmos for Headphones, DTS Headphone:X, etc.) won’t work, or just that the card itself doesn’t decode surround formats? And are there any true multi‑driver “surround” headphones left that would even use that? You also highlight support for high‑impedance headphones — but what does that translate to in practice? How does it compare to driving the same headphones from a normal device, and does it make any difference for everyday, lower‑impedance models? In short, who is this card actually targeted at?
    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?
    • Just saw a news report of a Waymo driving into a flooded road.
    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays.
