AutoPatcher XP October 2006

Recommended Posts

HELP! PLEASE!

I cannot for the life of me get Autopatcher to work. I have downloaded the XP October 2006 patcher program but am getting the 'Run time error 429 - activeX component can't create object!' message when I try to run the program. I've followed all the advice and instructions in the FAQ help but it is not working!

This is what I've tried and recommends on the AutoPatcher site:

Install both the setup files in AutoPatchers \win9xnt folder

If that doesnt work, go to start > run, type REGSVR32 SCRRUN.DLL and press enter

If that doesnt work, copy files from C:\Program Files\AutoPatcher\bin to C:\Windows\System32

None of these things work.

I can't find a 'win9xnt' folder

Running this REGSVR32 SCRRUN.DLL says 'succeeded' but doesn't fix my problem.

I don't know what files to copy to put into C:\Windows\System32. It says copy from C:\Program Files\AutoPatcher\bin but I can't find a 'bin' directory.

All I have is an AutoPatcher folder in Program Files which contains a folder called 'modules' an autorun file, a setup application icon and an uninstall application icon.

I'm going out of my mind - can anyone help.

If you can please speak slowly and clearly because I am not a computer wizz like you guys.

Cheers

You need to download a full version of AutoPatcher as well as the update versions.

The win9xnt and bin folders are only included with the full versions.

what's wrong?

i am using windows xp sp2 (chinese)

There is no Chinese version of AutoPatcher at the moment.

but it says "Although it was made with Windows XP SP2 English in mind, it will load on any (English) Windows version, showing only the items which match the running environment."

which one is right?

It was made with Windows XP SP2 English in mind, but will load on any English Windows (2000/XP/2003)... Each module can describe its own dependencies. If a patch is only applicable to Windows XP, it wont show up in 2000 or 2003. Some modules are common though. We're just saying that you'd be better off downloading a release specific for your version/language, since otherwise, most of the patches are version/language specific, thus very few, if any, will show up... which ultimately means you're wasting your 200-250mb of your bandwidth for just a couple of patches....

I cannot for the life of me get Autopatcher to work. I have downloaded the XP October 2006 patcher program

did you remember to install the august full release, then the september update, before installing the october update?

you need to install

1) AutoPatcher_XP_Aug06_ENU_Full

then 2) AutoPatcher_XP_Sep06_ENU_Update

then 3) AutoPatcher_XP_Oct06_ENU_Update

if you read through the message board you'll see this same question again and again.

Does it mean that i can't use autopatcher on the Chinese windows xp sp2?

There is currently no Chinese version of autopatcher, as the above mentioned

You can, but it will be of very little (if any) use... :(

P. S. Net Framework 3.0 is 50.33 MB in size. Maybe a Full would be better than Update. BTW, these are the times when you'll jump with joy for having a DSL. :)

But the loading module process stuck at the windows update v6 (as shown on the attached file above)

What can i do?

I've tried the August Full AutoPatcher release and October Full AutoPatcher release.

Both stuck at the same place...

Guys thanks for the great work you guys do here!! It's really appreciated.

That being said, there have been a host of final apps being released. IE7, .Net 3.0, WMP11.

I wonder if there will be a December Full release will all of these updates included. At least we'll have the choice of whether we want IE7 or WMP11 installed.

Anyone, would be a nice idea for a Full December release to include all of those, and whatever new patches are released.

Keep up the good work guys...

Don't forget Windows Defender...

First of all, thanks for AutoPatcher. I'm on Dialup, but I still reserve the time and bandwidth to download the AutoPatcher updates as they come out. I consider it one of the top things to keep updated on a system. AP, Firefox, KLMCP (codec pack), things like that.

Can someone check the Oct 06 English update on INeedHosting.net? My computer spent all last night downloading it, and it comes up with a CRC error, says the file is corrupt. I'm surprised nobody else has brought this up yet - is everyone else using another mirror? Can I get a quick confirmation that INeedHosting's mirror, or another Torrent mirror, has a working copy or the English Oct 06 WinXP update?

Regarding IE7 - I'm not about to tell you guys how to run AutoPatcher, but I think it should be included. I'm a loyal Firefox user myself, but I've always felt that a system is only as strong as its weakest link, a sentiment Vista echoes with its rating system. So though I don't use IE7, it seems to me that it should be an important update.

Someone said, a few pages back, that AutoPatcher contains no malware, and if it did they would not support it. That's only partially true. While optional, WGAN has been classified as a form of malware. Nothing against AP for including it - I always leave it off - but if WGAN = Malware then "AP includes malware"=true. ;)

And WMP11 is no longer beta. If AP can have the latest builds of the MSN messaging client and WMP10, surely it can have WMP11, right? I don't even use IM tools, so I consider WMP11 closer to "essential" than MSN by leaps and bounds.

Lastly, Microsoft keep updating DirectX. They don't change the version number, just the date. The latest is "DirectX 9.0c (Oct 06)" and I think the one before that was... I don't know, but the last one I have archived is Dec 05. Is AutoPatcher keeping DirectX up to date as well?

I run the torrent tracker and the files I created the torrent from matches the MD5 hash in the first post...and since bit torrent checks to make sure that the correct file was downloaded, I can only assume it's a problem with your system :s

Was WMP10 majorly a security update?

Tabbed browsing = the only new thing in WIE?

That, assuming that I use WMP (which I don't). :p

And no, but it's the most talked and notorious one (which means that it could've been added a looong time ago). You know what I intented... since I even mentioned the ol' Netscape. As I've said, only tested IE7 briefly in it's Beta 2 stages and never got quite the hang of it (as in, hadn't liked it as well).

Long live WIE!

WGAN is no more a part of AP, since it's been withdrawn from WU/MU...

DX usually comes out every two months. Blaze said it's too big for AP (~30 MB).

That, assuming that I use WMP (which I don't). :p

I mentioned WMP10 because it's not all about security - there are many of us using WIE7 which is a looot better than MIE6. Sometimes I ask myself why on earth I hadn't been using Opera or Firefox instead of MIE6... (Opening eyes is another good thing in WIE7, BTW.)

Yes, but even the FF users say WIE7 should be included. Don't be against it for not being "majorly a security update".

Please see FAQ number 6.

6) When i double click the AutoPatcher shortcut nothing happens

Go to: C:\Program Files\AutoPatcher\tools, run 'AutoPatcher Module Editor.exe' and close it - next run autopatcher.

If that doesn't help, copy comdlg32.ocx from the AutoPatcher \bin folder to c:\windows\system32 (overwrite existing file if there is one).

It now looks like the same product, not a separate dashboard. Pairing is one tap and zero typing: the generated WebUI password is now copyable, and the QR code carries the credentials — scanning it from your phone logs straight in (no typing the IP or password), then drops the credentials from the address bar. Search Two new providers: RuTor (CIS sources, no login, via a public TorAPI relay) and Torrents-CSV. Results are sorted by seeders (healthiest first), and each search now times out after 15 s so one dead provider can't hang the UI. Files & trackers Per-file priority is back: right-click a file in the detail panel to set Skip / Low / Normal / High. Rename an individual file inside a torrent (double-click or the file menu), separate from renaming the torrent. Remove a tracker from a torrent (the ✕ on a tracker row); adding was already there. Smart Paste on Ctrl+V — paste a magnet, a 40-char info-hash, or a .torrent URL straight from the clipboard and it's added immediately (text fields still paste text normally). Covers & titles Anime fansub naming ([Group] Title - NN) now resolves to the right show. Audio channel layouts in titles (DDP5.1, 7.1, …) are stripped so they don't pollute cover matching. Under the hood The legacy QWidget interface is gone. QML had been the only UI since 3.0.0 (reachable old code lived behind a hidden --legacy flag); with parity confirmed, the entire QWidget layer — main window, every dialog, the theme manager — was removed (~13,400 lines). The four restored actions above were features that backend already supported but the QML port had never wired. macOS: the WebUI password hash moved out of the keychain into app settings, so launching the app no longer pops a login-keychain password prompt on unsigned builds. The actual password still lives in the keychain. Cleanup: ~400 orphaned translation strings and a batch of dead code removed; internal duplication collapsed; an ARCHITECTURE.md added for contributors. Unit / security / memory tests and the ASan/UBSan/TSan sanitizers stay green.
