Yahoo! Messenger 8.1.0.195

I sent them an e-mail about my bug (yet again) and I've also told them to check out this thread to get feedback from us. I told them we want tabbed IM's and this bug fixed for the next version. It's time they start listening to us! Here's a feedback form for anyone else experiencing this issue. http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/launch/cgi_feedback

Thanks for replying, King. I described the issue back in my post on the first page of this thread, but I'll copy and paste it for you. Does this version crash LAUNCHcast if you listen to it for awhile? Try leaving it on for an hour or so, then see if it's still on. I don't mean the Yahoo! program crashing, I mean just the LAUNCHcast part. It says connecting...then crashes and says error code 21. So you have to keep re-starting LAUNCHcast. It's a pain. Version 7.5 doesn't do that, and that's why I've switched back to it. Probably takes less RAM, too. If it doesn't crash after an hour of listening, try leaving it on overnight and see if it's still on when you wake-up. 7.5 will be, 8.0 won't. Something got messed up with the switch to plugins. I have e-mailed Yahoo about this. Let me know! Thanks! I'm using Windows Media Player 11 beta 2. I don't know if that matters or not. I'm pretty sure the bug was there even when I was using 10.0. I'm also using the latest Flash Player version 9.

Error code 21? Isn't that a VB error? A screenshot of the crash would help. But, I think something corrupted in your installation of Yahoo 8. My advice would be to uninstall all the plugins. then uninstall Yahoo! completely (Using Custom in the installer, then using Select All), then rebooting, then reinstalling Yahoo 8.1 and try it then.

Good initiative there. If they only had a person who actually compiled all our feedback, AIM wouldnt have this big an advantage over them now in the client arena.

I've just confirmed that the LAUNCHcast bug still exists with version 8.1.0.195

Back to 7.5 for me until they get that fixed! If you like listening to LAUNCHcast without it crashing, I'd advise you to use 7.5.0.819 or 7.0.2.120

Actually I had this problem with the last build of 8.0. As soon as I got 8.1 installed LAUNCHcast came back. Very nice to not have to use the website for it anymore.. Oh, and I have found something different with 8.1. With the plug-in system you can now have several plugins turned on but hide the ones that your not using the the time. Like I have 4 plugins turned on but I only have the launchcast one visible.

King, I don't know what error code 21 is. You say VB, as in Visual Basic? That's the programming language it is written in, right? That's not something I can update on my end? A screenshot wouldn't really help since all it says is error code 21, click here to retry. When I click retry, it loads up and works for awhile but eventually it will crash if I listen to it for too long. Try what I said, leave it on for like half hour to an hour or even overnight, and see if it crashes on you. You can also try skipping songs a lot to see if it crashes. Happens to my friend, too. I would really like to get this fixed. That's my only gripe with the 8.1 or 8.0 versions.

Here's an idea... Go to this site and download this...

Then run it, and check all the boxes (to make sure), then hit go.

But, I think the problem is from WMP 11 Beta 2. My suggestion would be to uninstall it and let it rollback to WMP 10.

Now if only we had a Yahoo Messenger developer posting along with us and getting our feedback like AIM's dev, Sulax, does, we might actually get a better messenger. It's a sad thing when Yahoo is actually bigger bloatware than AIM while only adding the features that MSN and AIM added years ago.

Kudos to the AIM team for actually going to the hardcore users to improve their product.

Boo to Yahoo for making a less advanced client with more RAM usage.

Thanks for the kind words. I have always wondered why more competitors don't do what we do. Sure its hard to take a beat down from you guys when we screw up, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. :)

Seriously, your feedback makes for a better product...while posters here at neowin represent a certain subset of AIM's overall user base, it does not mean we are not listening.

I installed Windows Media Player 11 Final and Yahoo! Messenger 8.1.0.195, so I'll let you know if it's fixed or not. I doubt it will be. It sure would be nice to use LAUNCHcast with this version and have LAUNCHcast NOT crash for once. I can usually listen to a decent amount of songs before it crashes. If it does crash, one thing I might try is clearing my cache in Internet Explorer 7. I believe the song information is cached there.
