Windows Vista To RTM - Nov. 6th

Recommended Posts

So tomorrow the big nightmare The operating system formerally known as Vista will be behind Microsoft and they can concentrate on Windows Vienna due 3 years from now. :) :p

only after sp1 and implementation of all the other features which were cut out.

I am really hoping we get this on Connect. I doubt it though but it be nice. I remember for the XP Service Pack there was a nice RTM build there with key when I was done, so hopefully they are nice enough to put it on there for us, if not oh well I'll buy it.

Dont hold your breath... huge differance in a SP and a OS

on a side note:

As for Windows Vista R2 (codenamed "Vienna"), I think it's safe to say that the calm and calculating hand of Steven Sinofsky will ensure that this and other future Windows versions will arrive on schedule and be evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, upgrades. Sinofsky's record with Microsoft Office is as clear as it is successful, and there's little doubt he'll have a positive effect on the Windows Division.

Windows Vista R2 codenamed Vienna??? I thought Windows Vienna (formerly known as Blackcomb) is next OS generation (NT 7.0) and is successor to Windows Vista?

and I thought Fiji was Vista R2. but it looks more like the codename for SP1, whitch will be vista NT kernal 6.1

Ive been using this thing for 4 some years now, and now i finally get to see it. It wasnt a long wait, if i remember right when i started using it, the word was it was going to come out about now, but that wasnt official. So im not upset like other people, because ive been with this since the begining, and it has come a long long way.

I still perfer 4074 over any OS so far.

Oh well, I am not sure if Paul made some mistakes in clarifying the Windows codename when writing his article. Anyone else who can clarify this issue?

when this is released can you do an upgrade from rc2?

MS does not block build to build updates (RC2 is treated as an interim than a point release), but this may cause some unpredicted issues. A clean install is much easier and faster too, and you can use Windows Easy Transfer to copy all prefs back to the new installation.

You're right and he's wrong. The Blackcomb codename was changed to Vienna in January, or at least that's when the public heard of it. Not sure about the NT 7, but it's a planned successor anyway.

Uhh doesn't that mean it was already compiled on the 1st of November?

Yeah but I guess there's some work to do on it afterwards, bureaucracy, etc:):)

We can't just download it directly from their build lab servers:D:D

Yes, it does. Ask all those companies with SA if it matters.

but dont they have a contract with microsoft that says they have to get a new version of windows as part of this year's sa. i thought that was the reason business was getting it before the end of 2006, so microsoft don't get sued. :s

    • draw.io Desktop 30.2.6 by Razvan Serea draw.io desktop is a downloadable security-first diagramming application that runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Creating diagrams in the desktop app doesn’t need an internet connection. This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish. Easy-to-use diagram editor The draw.io apps work just like the office and drawing tools you are used to using. Drag and drop shapes from the shape libraries and drag to draw connectors between them. Drag connectors to add waypoints and set a precise shape and position, or let them reroute automatically. Double click and start typing to add a label to anything. Create tables and swimlane flows with a familiar tool. Style shapes and connectors with customisable palettes, sketch options, fonts and text formatting tools. Search for shapes, including in open-source icon libraries. Use our vast libraries of shapes and templates, organised into logical categories, to create a range of diagrams and infographics. Generate diagrams from text descriptions using our smart templates.
