CNN Ridicules Microsoft Zune

Recommended Posts

Typical of the press... comparing apples to oranges instead of apples to apples and oranges to oranges. And why not someone who actually knows what they are talking about. Anyone who watches CNN in the morning knows they are idiots.

I was quoted, so I guess that was directed at me... First, I don't thing my argument is that terrible. An absurd comparison was made on the show so I pointed it out. Second, I'm sorry if my jokes are too childish for you. I was commenting on how everyone on this forum rips into FoxNews on a constant basis, (check out just about any topic about politics) when in reality the other news stations are just as bad. People definitely need to lighten up around here though. We're not fighting holy wars, we're just debating.

That's a standard practice in the console market and there is good logic behind it. In the mp3 player market, not so much.

No i meant to say that in this case, I think people who hate Zune are just cheering because Zune got hurt by this report, and not because any of the arguments or jokes were good.

In the same way some people like certain news sources even if they report poorly because they agree with them; or hate them even if they report well because they disagree with them.

My point is that I'm neither a Microsoft or FoxNews fanboy; I just think people should realize this is a case of bad CNN reporting. It wasn't attacking you at all

Sorry, but the only way you'll get people to switch from their iPod to something else is to allow them to transfer their entire library to the new device easily. That includes iTunes music.

And since iTunes music can't be transferred to other devices (unless you have an app that strips DRM, but sshhhh...), it's gonna be VERY difficult to make people switch away from their iPod.

In fact, I think we're at a point now where it's going to be hard to make people switch from whatever it is they're already using.

or are you just happy that Microsoft is looking bad?

You know, actually, I am. I'm damn glad that Microsoft is getting railed over this, and I hope Vista turns out the same way. Because Windows is what got me thinking computers were cool, over a decade ago, and not something that must be fought with in order to get something done. And it's been a slow and steady decline since then. Windows XP brought that back up for a bit, and so did the Xbox, but by and large, Microsoft has gone from being a company that makes compelling products that I want to use and am interested in, into a company that puts out cludge that I'm compelled to use out of neccessity due to interrelated software and services. I'm sick and tired of these mediocre, half-assed "oh well it's good enough, lets churn it out" releases that have been coming from Microsoft lately, and I want something better. I want to see a Microsoft product and go "Wow, that's kinda cool" instead of being told it's cool in a marketing campaign, then realizing it falls far short of expectations. Is that too much to ask from one of the most important, innovative and powerful corporations on the planet? I don't think so.

Hahaha, wow, that's a pretty bad review by CNN.

I do believe that comparing a video iPod would still have made the iPod look better, but that comparison was apple and oranges. You can't even manage your music well, much less video, with a Shuffle.

Ugh. Mark my words, the iPod will die. It won't necessarily be because of another player, but because of oversaturation. I know a lot of you have made the comments about people buying iPods because they're cool, and that's the dead truth. The iPod is a fad and people will move on. It's just not as cool as it used to be, and that's not for lack of features - it's because everyone has one.

I guess before iPod fanboys flame me, I should mention I own an iPod, and after it dies, I might look into the Zune, but will probably end up with an iPod nano.

When I say it'll die, I don't me completely gone, I just mean it won't ever be nearly as popular as it is now. There's logically only one direction it can go from it's position.

just remember people this is first generation of it for MS, look how 1st gen things progress... iPod wasnt that great 1st gen, the Dell Axim was clunky first gen and people compared it to the iPaq which was much smaller and ligher, but now Dell Axim's are very nice PPC's XBOX was basically a out of date PC when it came out but look at the 360, its a massive computing device... you have to start somewhere and work your way up to greatness, greatness doesnt come in the first try always

I dont like the Zune much, but some of its feature are better than the ipod.

However the repoter is stupid.

Compare a normal Video Ipod and Zune.

Not Zune vs Shuffle ofcourse the Zune will be heavier etc...

Some other examples:

Compare a ferrari to lamborghini.

not ferrari to average ford.

OMFGWTFBBQ the ford cost so much less and still gets you from A to B why would you want a expensive ferrari.

I got to play with the zune today at work and i was pleasantly surprised. It is a lot smaller and sleeker then I thought it would be. You can definitely count me in as one of the people to buy the Zune especially with it being able to share the tv shows and movies downloaded on my 360.

You're missing the point. You have to look at it from her perspective: The Zune is being marketed primarily as a music player, and all SHE needs in a music player is what the shuffle offers. She doesn't CARE that it has a video screen and 30x more capacity, it's just a another music player.

But in all, NONE of them had any sort of enthusiasm at all for the Zune.

I find this to be very shallow and pedantic.

At least they pointed out that the Shuffle held less music, I think that's the main point. Besides, most people buy mp3 players to listen to music, not look at videos on a tiny screen at a crappy resolution.

I don't like zune for the same reason I don't like the Ipod they are both "closed", you can only buy from here and only manage it using itunes or whatever zune uses.

That's why I bought the ZVM, they are not trying to push their codecs/other products trough their players, they are just selling DAPs.

That review was biased in some ways, but like most it hit the nail right on the head. Microsoft released it only because the iPod was a thorn in its side. People will flock to buy the Zune as much as they flock for prunes. Correction, prunes serve a purpose.

OMFG did you not read my post?

I clearly understand thus i made a comparsion between a ford and ferrari.Ferrar vs lamborghini

Look carfeully:

Ferrari V12 ...................................................Lamborghini V12

Italian ......................................................... Italian

$300K+ .........................................................$300K+

320Km/h+.........................................................$320Km/h+

There is a fair comparison when almost everything is identical then It just coem down to the look

Now

Ferrari V12...........................................................Average Ford V4-V8

Italian...................................................................American

$300K+.................................................................$10-50K

320Km/h+................................................................180Km/h?

Now this comparsion is like shuffle vs Zune who cares about a turbocharged V12 engine that goes from 0-100 in 4 secs flat. All I need is a car that gets me from A to B. Thats what the silly reporter is doing. She is compring a base product mto top of the line.

Now if she compared weight/size/price of VIDEO ipod and Zune then said the Zune is a POS, Heavy etc.. I will listen to her.

they are comparing a 5th or 6th generation ipod to the first generation of Zunes? lol... oh yea i loved what the woman said... email? hahahaha dumb people dumb people!

I wonder what kind of email she does on the shuffle... :D

For all the ****ing idiots on this board arguing, shut the hell up. It's ****ing annoying, and it's the same redundant **** over again. Seriously, this world has become who can say the biggest opinion to change the other's mind.

This ****ing CNN report is a ****ing joke. Why would they put a lady reporter talking about an electronic device, not that women do not know anything, but this lady was just plain stupid. Email, it's not a ****ing pda. Does it look like it has a ****ing keyboard on it.
