CavityCr33p
Would it be possible to copy the files from the dvd onto a different partition, and then install from there doing a clean install? Slimy
Firstly, why can't you boot off the dvd? Secondly, have you tried mounting an image of the dvd instead? (I'm not 100% if this works or not, but I'd give it a shot) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/512473-install-vista-from-different-partition/#findComment-588047640 Share on other sites
Ady25
Would it be possible to copy the files from the dvd onto a different partition, and then install from there doing a clean install? Yes. Actually that's how I did when installed the beta's I got through Connect. I saved it on a diferrent partition and then mounted the archived file (vista) using Daemon Tools. Never had a problem since. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/512473-install-vista-from-different-partition/#findComment-588047647 Share on other sites

The reason I asked is because all I have is dvd-r and my work laptop is a dvd+r drive, arghgh. I dont want to have to buy more blanks to burn this, haha. lazy. feva
My laptop doesn't have a cd drive at all. On my desktop, I've had no luck installing from an image. I get error 0x80070241 (like many other people). There is some Russian page with instructions on how to solve this problem but I haven't had a chance to go through that yet. I wonder if it will work on my laptop..I think I'll try now. Can someone confirm if this page is correct? http://www.thevista.ru/page.php?id=6176 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/512473-install-vista-from-different-partition/#findComment-588047790 Share on other sites
spookqwar
All questions no solutions!! I'm running x2 S-ATA II 250Gb 16Mb hdd's and had the same problem. Firstly tried to install in RAID 0 config - but that didn't work. Then in normal S-ATA mode, and that didn't work either. So then after a while I figured out that for some reason when you format a partition smaller than the drive size, you get this message!! So I tried and it worked - when you see you hdd in raw format, just click next and Vista will do the rest. Finally it installed without any hassles!! Hope this helps!
