Although it would be cool to have it separated. If somebody did one of those google maps and then people could choose people that were around them that would definitely be interesting.

Yes, their name will no longer be grayed out in your address book, and if they send you a Mii it will appear in your plaza.

In other words, no it won't notify you that somebody has added you, you can only add them and tell if they have you or not that way, as Joel described (grayed out or not).
