Opensearch added (Browser search option)

Recommended Posts

Following a suggestion by bangbang023 we added this just now.

Supports most newer browsers, you'll see the search area (drop down) change color meaning you could add Neowin as a Search choice.

Enjoy!

It only changed colour for me in the main page, in case someone says it doesn't work in the forums. The search WILL work, but you must go to the main page to get it detected for addition in your browser. After that, it searches the whole site, forum and all.

Indeed, we'll probably add it to the forums as well when we go through the upgrade process to IPB 2.2

yarr neobond is this based on https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=515974

EDIT co_co try the one on they page, that defiantly works

ste

Sort of, except this one is hosted by us and will let you install directly from our frontpage.

Thanks to all the guys who got this working. TheDecyptor fixed an error in my original file and DaveLegg and Marshalus both worked ot get it up on the site. I have to admit, OpenSearch is so much better than the old Firefox search engine format.

Oh yeah, it's great OpenSearch was adopted by both IE and Firefox (although Firefox has some changes), i really would love to see it supported in every browser.

I don't know if it would be integrated into Opera. Every time I ask in the IRC channel or forum, the thread kinda dies :/.

This is just a little something that makes you like a browser just a bit more (I have a little more respect for IE7 just because of this ability).

    • The level of stupidity at Google and Microsoft is beyond belief. All they are doing by killing this is forcing people to jump over to Firefox and ditch them all together, therefore giving Firefox the market boost it needs to finally crush them all in the end.
