i just bought a MBP back in august and this might be a n00b question. but do you think when I install Leopard I need to do a clean install and delete everything I currently have or do you think it's possible where it just gets upgraded? cuz I really have alot of stuff on my MBP and dont have a spare drive to store all these things. thanks.
When installing Leopard, select the "Archive and Install" option - this installs Leopard without touching your files, so they'll still be there after the installation. To be safe I'd backup your really important files on an iPod or flash drive or something - just in case.
Something listed as a feature gave me a chuckle. Funny for a Leopard "feature". :D
Why shouldn't that be considered a feature? :huh:

well iv just pre ordered it from apple online, it sats its going to at my house on the 26th so i dont have to bother going to a apple store. Nearest is 40 mins on train!!!

If it doesent come in time ital come week after im busy weekend begining the 27th anyway

you guys are right the student discount is no longer $69 bucks but $119 a 10 dollar discout o_O....I wonder what gives?

man almost every single feature really seems like it could really make your workflow even more fluid...

things seem to happen as expected.

unfortunately not that often... i mean of course a window should be able to be scrolled in even if its not activated, it just makes sense... but it is not standart. and maybe it will be hard to get used to it because you always thought its not possible but once you know how it works and how to use it... hell. =) amazing.

thinking back on when i first used mac osx 10.3 i was so surprised that things actually worked like i expected them to work...

no offense towards windows, really, but i dont know, it was just such a good experience and i think, looking at the new features, this experience will even get better.

I checked the Leopard pre-order site and I don't see a feature list. What's new and compelling in Leopard from a business perspective? If all I do is work in Microsoft Office (mostly on Powerbooks or Macbooks/Macbook Pros) what features in Leopard would make me upgrade?

In my organization:

Nobody needs BootCamp

Everybody uses Entourage for email

We have a centralized backup system

Nobody uses any sort of instant messaging

Everyone is pretty much trained to use Firefox for the Intarweb. Safari doesn't work properly with our hosted project management software.

somone wish to buy me an iMac with 10.5 installed causes well i would love to have one with 10.5 for video production so i can leave my upgraded PC to gaming. i am on low low income so he he i cant afford anything anymore . really tho it be awesome if i got rich this week to buy a nice new mac

Seriously, Apple, what the hell? This is the only thing about Leopard's new GUI to disappoints me. They made such a big deal about "consistent window look" and yet totally ignore the fact that they again have clashing Aqua/iTunes 7 scroll bars.

I'm not sure what sort of answer you'd expect: "How will this new operating system make this 4 year old piece of software that I use excluesively work better?"

If you never leave Office there's probably very little that would appeal to you—especially if you're not the one maintaining the mac that you're running office on.

EDIT: I see you've edited your post.

If you're wondering why 'a' business would upgrade (as opposed to 'your' business), the major reasons

most of us are upgrading are:

  • Changes to Mail and iCal look promising
  • We do use iChat with iChat server internally and the improvements there look useful
  • Retrospect kinda sucks even fully automated.
  • Programmers demand Textmate and the new version requires 10.5

Yup that is the beauty of Apple... only one version for all. none of this ultimate or pro crap!

I think he might about student upgrade pricing - yeah, MS' pricing structure is out whack for retail, but for educational discounts, MS blows Apple away, depending on your university/major, you can get Windows and Office for next to nothing.

Even if you can't get MS discounts through MSDNAA, you can purchase the Vista HP academic upgrade for $70.

I plan on picking up a Mini around Christmas, as it is the only Mac that fits my needs/budget, but a $20 discount on a Mini through the EDU store is such a joke...

^ Well in a way, apple pricing is for upgrades and not retail versions. MS' academic pricing, depending on your school is really good. The lowest I've heard is $7 for Windows and $7 for Office !

Or even one better... At my university, all Computer Science majors get Vista Business and Office 2007 Standard free of charge.

Same here through MSDNAA. (though it's not limited to CS majors, just students taking a CS course)

Sad thing is, I don't dare touch either of the software. :x

Office 2007 is worth it, and Vista is fine for home users, but I know our university's IT dept. is going to have fun with it when they likely begin rolling it out next summer (and officially supporting users that have it).
