Ice cooling - am I a genius?

Recommended Posts

How about you just go and buy a phase-change cooling system? They are basically small freezers with a coolant that connect to the 'hot plate' of your CPU and cool it in a way similar to watercooling set ups or like a fridge.

Or you could just add some ice blocks to your watercooling loop every now and then to boost its cooling capacity!

Cal

BTW: Your not quite the 'genius' you thought! :p (Trying to be a little comical, not mean! )

Others have done similar before!

What's missing in my genius idea? :D
Something to collect water from the melting of ice, something to return the water to ice, something to avoid condensing under the "system".

Finally, a second computer because you fried that one.

Genius? No :| :s

What your proposing is Phase Change cooling just without the ice. Pretty much the same equipment which cools a Fridge or Freezer but in a small unit with a CPU block and some pipes.

Sorry to burst your bubble but that's already on sale and is easier to maintain than what your suggesting.

It's good that you are thinking of new ideas in the cooling field but really the dry ice would be a pointless aspect of the system as a phase system is already better and on the market.

Alternatives such as Water or Water+Peltier cooling block are also available and are both easier for a novice enthusiasts to fit and maintain.

For the more hardcore users which I guess your idea is aimed at already use liquid nitrogen with custom fittings and insulators.

So basically what I'm saying is your idea doesn't have a market segment it's a poor-mans alternative to already on sale designs.

Submerge the entire motherboard and components in distilled water, freeze the entire thing as a block! should last a few hours haha. Sadly distilled water does still have impurities as does the motherboard which mix then boom. I still would like to try it :p

Ice cooling! You have a block of ice wrapped in a thin metal which allows heat to travel through, strapped to the CPU, like a heatsink. You then have a cooling system, much like in a freezer!

  • Lower temp
  • Silent
  • No leaks
  • Easier to manage

What's missing in my genius idea? :D

Are you high? I think so.

Remember to take some pictures :D

I think I like this one: Oil PC

Dammit, I wanted to post that :p

Seriously, use the oil method :D its tried and tested lol. Also, you can use the lube for later :shifty: :p

The THG link isn't working, this should give you an idea of what to expect: Click :D

Moving on.. Lol, Great Idea (Even though its pretty stupid.) Gave me some chuckles :D

Cheers.

But if the CPU operates at a lower temperature, it will become faster. Look at that processor that got frozen to absolute zero, and ran at 500Ghz.

This is what my friend came up with when I showed him my idea on Windows Live:

it will go on a cycle, the water tank will hold water, the water will be pumped into a ice tray (which will be in a tank). the ice tray will be suspended upside down with something stopping the water escaping, it then cools the water into ice blocks, at regular 30 mins intervals it moves the cap and the ice falls out, and goes thro a pipe into the tank in the computer, as it melts it goes back out into hte water tank
Smart

What happens when you turn the computer off?

You put your head between your legs, and cry, because you just ruined a perfectly good cooling system.

You realise that nothing on earth is ever self-sustaining right? With your system there will be energy lost, and you'd need some sort of external cooling to cool the ice. Which as other people said is redundant.

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL OMFGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really do hope you are 8yo, or kidding... If you attempt this you owe us photos~!
