http://www.outguess.org/

it is called stegdetect and stegbreak.

hope it helps

Thanks for that :)

unfortunately gave a negative result but not sure how reliable that is as it only looks for certain simple steganography encoding types (roughly 20% of available methods).

Starting to wonder if i'm barking up the wrong tree but there is certainly a strong link between "Histories of Herodotus" & steganography with several "clues" seeming to point in this direction...

the jpg is clean.

Unfortunately that only works with .bmp files and not .jpg, changing the file format would likely destroy any hidden data so that's a non starter i'm afraid, some other tools there sound interesting though (even if they don't help with this specific problem!)

Think i'll stick with this one for now...

Just need to work on finding a password!

On th subject of "Histories of Herodotus"...

From http://www.answers.com/topic/steganography

I'm working on finding the exact wording from the book describing this and another early use of steganography.

....Herodotus....much too related to Egypt rather than Steganography...? Anyone find the link between the two if there is any?

No.

I dont think I can make it much clearer. We (in no particular order) called Microsoft, we called AMD, sent emails etc... And it was for nothing. We got a recording. The recording didnt send us further on the path... It stopped us. The /collectionplate boxes were found independently of the trail we followed before. So basically, we didnt NEED to make those calls, send those emails, etc... Undertsand now? It would make more sense if the /collectionplate boxes were found from a clue in the recording... But they werent.

Which means one of 2 things: We missed something with the calls that led to the message concerning "murmuring rock project", or they had us do all of that for nothing. I highly doubt the second one.

Furthermore... I am still unconvinced that the /collectionplate boxes and the trail to the "murmuring rock project" are related... We havent seen anything (other that you mentioning a file on the /collectionplate page had the word "meta" in it) that links these two things.

So, I am not necessarily doubting that these are related. My concern/question was more along the lines of "Why the heck did they do that... There must be more to it... Otherwise this made no sense at all..."

My thoughts on some recent posts;

I really hope you guys find something in the pic but I really doubt this is going any place - still good luck.

There must be something we have missed, unless we are just ahead of the game, the white boxes having been solved already may have been this weeks task, and given that many new players out in the wider world may not have come across the forums then it would take them time to catch up. So its fair to think thats what the lull is for now.

Confuso posted the pics for the next boxes, but they are not showing up at all, cant see no pics at all - have they been removed - do they clear up any info on the video at all.

The choco trail - it was just a clue to 42's involvment , 4 then 2 on the hotel table nothing to do with golden unicorns, the choco company would have been more involved with the prizes and launch etc if they are in game.

The shield/crest we are revealing grappling hook and feathers, well I have done so many searches on google and live for college, school, university, badges, logos, shields, crests, coat of arms - clibing clubs, venture cubs, rescue clubs, native Indians, ninja and more , even raided Ottawa Library and lokked through books on symbols, crests, heraldry and drawn a complete blank.

I can tell you the form of crest is known a 'Bordour' - a word that derived int Border over time, it is a early form of crest and shows separation from or removal from, often used by someone surrounding the main person/ hereldric (?) house etc. (The use of a shield within a shield then the symbol of representation in the middle.) - Dont think this helps us much though if at all.

The feathers may indicate something - given differing numbers of markings - another phone number ??

And its not te rocket logo, at least I can't find it on there site. Nor is she Loki!

.....

The disappearing legs, the directors way of showing a lady in half, half the game, magic !

The moving of seats, part 2, next week 3 chairs ?

The magicians cane - magic tie.

The chemistry professors office - she did not study chemistry - something here I think, and I don't think its MIT related other than it may have been the inspiration for the story line here - climb through the window is most definatly a clue to something. Any web site with a window ?? In game !!

Well more adventuring to do !!!

I think we are all wasting a lot of brainpower on false leads...

Most of the things that people are still deliberating about, pertain to puzzles already solved. I think it safe to say that the usable information of those items have been sucked out.

The Metapuzzles are where we should be focusing our efforts I believe. For I really think that the one to solve those will be the winner....

just a thought...

....Herodotus....much too related to Egypt rather than Steganography...? Anyone find the link between the two if there is any?

Yes, as mentioned earlier in the thread (only a few pages ago), wikipedia mentions the following on this subject

"Its ancient origins can be traced back to 440 BC. Herodotus mentions two examples of Steganography in The Histories of Herodotus"

which is interesting since this book features in on of the videos

....Herodotus....much too related to Egypt rather than Steganography...? Anyone find the link between the two if there is any?

Do you mean has anyone found a link between Herodotus & Steganography?

If so I suggest you read back a few pages and do a google search their is a strong link here as reflected on literally hundreds of websites.

To quote some of the sources found on google...

Steganography is an ancient science. Some of the earliest accounts of its use date back to Herodotus, who chronicled the conflicts between Greece and Persia...
One of the first documents describing steganography is from the Histories of Herodotus
That’s how Herodotus describes one of the first cases of using steganography in the ancient world

Fair enough it may turn out to have nothing to with loki.jpg, but the link between Herodotus & Steganography is far too well documented and clear cut to be denied and seems too "in your face" to be completely co-incidental.

I hope that didn't come across as a lecture or anything! not intended to offend :)

On the subject of the flashing text above box's 3 and 4, I have searched for anagrams in case this resulted in a possible clue or password

In the text there appears to be a "1" which i exchanged for both and "i" and "l", I don't know if this will help at all, maybe a dead lead but here are the interesting results i found, there are many many many more if anyone would like to take this further.

Hi, first post here, don't beat me with sticks.

Going back to the faxed airline itinerary, I think there might be something there, as other posters have mentioned.

Jan 1 - Seattle to Las Vegas (makes sense for the Vegas opening)

Jan 11 - Las Vegas to Los Angeles (for the 2nd set of clues)

Jan 18 - Los Angeles to Austin (This one is strange... the Austin event was supposed to be on the 13th)

Jan 24 - Austin to Denver to Seattle (presumably for the big finale)

Jan 28 - Seattle to San Jose (also why, just for the AMD phone clue, murmuring rock?)

So what is in Austin? Seattle is Microsoft, Vegas for CES and the opening of the game, LA for the 2nd event and possibly 42 Entertainment HQ in Pasadena, then the mysterious Austin trip... too late for the 2nd event and it was cancelled anyway, then the layover in Denver (maybe nothing) and Seattle (4th event), then to AMD HQ? Any thoughts? It seems like too much information just to point to the AMD phone mailbox. Anyone know about some big corp headquarters or other location in Austin or an event happening between the 18th & 24th?

They are, I found them inside the homepage_magic.swf file, Images Tag ID #216 and Tag ID#281.

Another thing, if you send a message to [email protected] you will get a response similar to:

>Hmmm. Not quite what I had in mind. Try harder - then listen closely.

It's obviously an automated response, I tried to send additional messages but no response back

anymore.

What the automated script is waiting for ? ... and "listen closely" ?????

A phone number perhaps ?

LORELEI KITSUNE

Obviously this is a pseydonim..not a real name.

I found one thing on the internet ... http://cork-host.blogspot.com/2007/01/pagi...ei-kitsune.html

Reading that might give you some clues.....

P.S. Coincidental that first name and last name both have 7 letters?

Pretend you're dialing 1(866) LORELEI..which comes out to 866-567-3534

or (866) KITSUNE...which is 866-548-7863............Im going to try these out in a minute...but...wanted to see other's response about this................or am i totally going the wrong way???

P.S.S. Her name is definetly representing something...something related to the game...Lorelei = creatures killing fisherman....Kitsune = some spirit......not sure....

I have been watching the videos and i noticed that she has a chair on her left side on the first video and on the second she has it on the right side the chairs seens to be empty. i also noticed that she has a silver pocket watch and a silver collar on the second one. this may be a some clues that we have to look for the next challenge.

I will try to upload some pictures from my computer tonigh.

Thanks, thought for a minute Loki was here playing with us.

She was, user "lokivanishes", she posted one of the pregame early cyphers

I believe she joined on 12/26/06 but no show since 12/29/06.

I wonder how many folks from e42 are reading all this and laughing at us

Cheers

I've been analyzing the homepage flash files, I don't believe that there are any clues

hidden around the "Memories fade" and "People disappear" messages, just a fancy

effect around the text.

BTW, wanna see how the next two boxes look like when open ?

Pretty sure it just says "People Disappear"

keep in mind that along both paths, with both the white boxes and the calling around she mentioned that at some point in time she will ask a question. also both links were delivered in the EXACT same way, and there is only one meta prize. So YES they ARE related. I'm going to guess the two link up somewhere in the next two weeks. They probably wont be seperate paths in the end. That is just an assumption though.

    • Microsoft launches Godot Sample to streamline Xbox PC game development on the engine by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft today announced a new endeavor that aims to make it simpler for Godot developers to get their products into the Xbox PC ecosystem. Dubbed the "XBOX Godot Sample," this is a new public reference for developers using the open-source engine. This is set to serve as an example of how Microsoft GDK, Xbox Services, and PlayFab can be integrated into their projects. The sample is available now on GitHub as a working example. This covers key features in gaming projects that developers may need to release their projects on Xbox PC, with everything from matchmaking and game sign-in to gamepad compatibility with Godot being covered. This release is being called the first step in giving Godot developers the tools to bring their games over to Xbox PC, with more changes to come based on feedback and issue reports. However, the company was clear that this is not related to bringing Godot projects to Xbox consoles. The engine's open development model stops it from accessing console SDKs due to the requirement of NDAs and legal contracts. Here's how it explained this Godot sample project's focus: This is a source-only sample, not a product. It's MIT-licensed at the wrapper layer; the GDK and PlayFab dependencies still require their own installs and license acceptance, consistent with our other XBOX samples. There is no set update cadence for support or maintenance. We’ll watch the repo, monitor issues, and iterate where it makes sense, but this isn't a commercial release. That said, we’re excited to hear your feedback and see any community PRs, as we evolve this together. This is the first step in bringing Godot for XBOX on PC. We plan to evolve it over time based on what the community tells us is most valuable. This sample is built specifically for XBOX on PC. It doesn’t include support for XBOX Series X|S or XBOX One. If you’re already building for XBOX Series X|S or XBOX One, please talk with your XBOX representative. If not, you can get started by signing up here. Game developers can find the XBOX Godot Sample by heading to GitHub over here. Documentation on how to get started with Godot for building an Xbox PC project can be seen here.
    • I don't understand the vision. Do people really want to buy a new computer from Dell with 6 browsers installed? We all keep asking for Microsoft to stop having so much junk on their OS, and adding a bunch of browsers seems to go against that. Ideally, we would just be asked what browser we want during OOBE but Google is just going to pay Dell a bunch of money to include Chrome. Additionally, would you want your phones to start including all the browsers too when you get them? The only thing I ever wanted was to be able to uninstall IE or edge and I believe you are now able to. I do agree that microsoft needs to chill with their "are you sure you don't want to try edge before you install chrome" ads when going to download chrome.
    • It is notable that around 70% of web browser users choose Google Chrome. However, it is puzzling why anyone on Windows would opt for Chrome when Microsoft Edge is often superior in many aspects and comes pre-installed. Edge collects less data, uses less RAM, and is more optimized for Windows as a native Microsoft product. While some may point to bloat in Edge, much of it can be removed with simple tools, requiring no more effort than installing Chrome. Meanwhile, Chrome reportedly downloads large amounts of AI data (4 GB) without explicit consent. I'm sure you Chrome users love that, or? Although Microsoft’s aggressive promotion of Edge may be questionable, the browser’s current advantages make it a preferable choice over Chrome today, even if Chrome may have been better in the past.
    • JetBrains rolls out IntelliJ IDEA update with Markdown preview fixes and more by David Uzondu Image via JetBrains IntelliJ 2026.1.3 from JetBrains has landed, bringing several highly requested bug fixes that target common UI glitches and terminal rendering issues. If you run tmux inside the integrated terminal, the IDE no longer renders the cursor above the active line. The Markdown preview bug, which was fixed in this release, had annoyed developers for quite some time, as the preview pane failed to render images saved outside the project directory. Instead of displaying the actual image, the IDE simply showed a broken image icon, a problem that stuck around for two years before this update. Over on Windows, developers running WSL can now use wsl.exe to spin up their environments without losing terminal functionality. In previous builds, launching a terminal shell with something like wsl.exe -d ubuntu inside a Windows-based project broke both shell integration and active process detection. Other bug fixes in this release include: An issue where Gradle sync incorrectly reported success as a failure on WSL when using Gradle 9.5.0. A syntax highlighting bug that flagged valid Java for-loop initialization blocks with multiple statements as incorrect. A warning bug that triggered a false non-null local variable alert when using JSpecify annotations. A database generation bug that hid the option to use a DELETE statement instead of a TRUNCATE checkbox. A Kotlin highlighting failure where an assertion error in the Gradle redundant library inspection broke error highlighting. A UI bug where the ComboBox popup lacked a maximum height restriction. A Snowflake syntax error where DataGrip failed to support the "create temp" command. A Svelte syntax parsing failure that incorrectly flagged quotes inside inline expressions. A VCS repository manager deadlock that triggered thread pool exhaustion. A memory leak where the LazyTree component kept all previous versions of a tree in memory. IntelliJ 2026.1.3 is the third bug fix release for the IntelliJ 2026.1 series. The first one landed back in April with a fix for the WSL Python interpreter freeze, another fix for guest participants using Emmet abbreviations, and corrected WildFly server deployment errors.
