posted over at the meta puzzle...but since y'all might be bored............murmuring rocks is considered a trap to lure in bypassers...so i decided to step back and do some looking around....has anyone looked into the fact that some of the former employees of www.lokigames.com are now working for AMD and OpenAL ....note this page as refrance ( http://www.openal.org/openal_vista.html ) "loki entertainment disolved"=....on hold indefinatley

also..............

This is probably a farrrrrrrrrrrrr stretch but there is (was) a mumuring project in Canada. Murmur...a phone message system about the location your nearby....any thoughts?

why all of a sudden does this forum want me to have a java virtual machine AND an activeX control called "Microsoft Data Access - Remote Data Services Dat..... installed?

Ok even stranger. I closed IE, and reopened it and it didn't ask for either the JVM or ActiveX control.

Sometimes I hate windows.

Well, maybe here's a small spark...

I've been wildly switching back and forth between Loki being a real human or some manifestation that is referencing something else entirely. With her mention of the memorizing the address book, I thought that for sure now she was some portable device, that her "father" was the creator of the device, and he had just created it (hence "when she was very young" from the video).

I was hellbent on finding a portable device that memorized the phone book and could spit it back out. Namely trying to find the first electronic phone book. Well, either I suck at searching or I'm way off with this one, but it's possible....so many things that point to "her" not being a "her" but an "it".... Something to ponder on...

The other tidbit I wanted to add was that while searching for the memorization of the phone book, I came across, like several of you had before, this website:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mnemonic_major_system

In here, it starts to talk about converting numbers to words. So I was looking at the "Mural" puzzle in Box #3 and I saw a bunch of initials. Yes, I know they are used for the specific purpose of solving that puzzle, but could they be used to solve part of the Meta puzzle?

Thoughts please?

If lorelei was a maiden that "misled" sailors and crashed them into a rocks, then maybe that's what Loki is trying to do to us as well. The stories she keeps telling about herself are obvious lies. For certain, there is no way she visited every single country in the world on her 21st birthday. It's either an out and out lie or your theory about her being an "it" is true.

I think the stories are there to mislead us, but the directions from the glasses or something else we missed are the true clues.

Just a few things bugging me now,

Murmuring Rock on hold ... could it be that the meta puzzle game is on hold until box 4 for some reason, another project ?, not enough pre-game players to justify the work involved, we worked to fast and so used all the clues up ?

To provide a question and expect an answer can be done in any way at any time, so to change the game plan would be easy, if disappointing.

I do think if we are missing something 'Loki' would be sure to point us in the correct direction, I just wish that if we are on track 'Loki' would save our frustration and let us know, some sort of well done your ahead of us, stay with it for box 4, or here have some side puzzles to play with !!

There are a lot of clues that don't add up to any goal - that feels odd, bu true they all may just give alternate ways to help puzzles.

www.vanishingpoint.com bugs me :- too coincidental, no product publicity and nothing back from registering, just a dead end site, why does it exist. Do a patent search on goggle - nothing returns from them, search for vp wireless devices - nothing, how is anyone going to carry there product when it does not exist. ????

I think seriously we are missing a phone number, email address or something.

The meta logo - searched all over - nothing, no-one seams to use a grappling hook as a logo, and the feathers only seam to mirror American Indian designs - no relation to anything.

What have we missed !

Oh and Chemistry room, telephone book ! Just interesting stories or are we missing there meaning ?

In FF - just has some weird thing on posting - command window popped up and java - something started to execute, too fast to read or see quite what followed by three more quick executing bits - can't pin point it at all - but definatly from this site as its all I have open and nothing else running except AVG, Spybot 1.4 Teatimer and Deamon Tools 4.06 - Odd on Vista RTM ??

Also I now have to often refresh to get a complete page to load on this forumn - no issues elsewhere on site or other pages ?

I contacted these folks but never got a response back. I'm tempted to send a message

to Dr. Reed, after all he may be interested in this challenge that is related to viral

communications, I may be wrong but to be frank I believe this campaign is not

as viral as I thought it would be.

Ditto. I sent him a message about two weeks ago and never got a reply. Let us know if you do, please.

This site is interesting. Their contact info from registration is DreamBigDreamssplatmac.com

That makes me think that it has nothing to do with the game.

We already pointed that out, I don't think Billy boy will be happy to have somebody

involved using a mac.com mail address :-)

BTW, it's interesing that the one of tools most used to develop this game is not a Microsoft product ...

I must say, rather than get more exciting, this game has definitely lost momentum as more puzzle boxes have opened. Considering the first puzzle box was pretty darn tricky as was the meta puzzle, the second puzzle box was fun but not as hard and the meta puzzle was simply something we already knew. Now with the third puzzle box, the puzzles were a bit more tricky than box 2, but still not as hard as the first ones, imho. And the metapuzzle is completely uninspiring.

I know that the puzzle has to be hard enough that there will be only one winner, but if there's still more to find out, that genius that's solving isn't sharing or adding to the buzz around windows vista.

I just feel like something is definitely missing, but I doubt that the meta puzzle can be completely solved until after we get the last box and it's going to get solved very quickly after that because there's a deadline on those AMD chips. What if no one solves it until March 30th? They get one day's production of AMD chips with their name on it.

ehh, I'm just thinking aloud.

Anyone having luck explaining why Los Angeles was the Composers answer?

The best explanation so far (AFAIK) goes like this:

There are 272 notes on the paper in the puzzle, which is exactly one less than there are seconds in 4 minutes and 33 seconds. The notes themselves don't matter and neither do the names of composers. But... 4 minutes and 33 seconds correspond exactly to the amount of time it takes John Cage not to play a single note in his 1952 hit called 4:33.

This composition is an ingenious piece of work. It can be played on any instrument whatsoever, even none. It can be played solo, as a concert version or even combined at the same time. It is always performed flawlessly regardless of who performs it. As the matter of fact, absolutely no musical knowledge is required. Furthermore, the composition also results in enormous savings in instruments, sound system and recording studio fees. But as brilliant as this 4:33 composition is, I personally prefer the somewhat archaic, but still very effective, off switch.

Anyway, John Cage was born in LA and this is the answer to the puzzle.

Needless to say, I'm very disappointed with this week's hard puzzles. And unless I get a better explanation for this and the other two (Tomb, Murial) by the end of the week, I'm bailing out of this game.

One detail about the partiture, not all notes have the same tempo.

I also share the feeling that the last set of puzzles were more guess the answer than find the solution,

the pre-game ciphers and first box were more clever and challenging.

Well, I spent all night working with the Tomb puzzle sheet following up on the discovery here that the blocks were the pyramids a Giza and the dot in the top left is the vanishing point if you draw circles intersecting the corners. Here is my overlay leading to the letters OTMISFNTIERN being intersected by those circles. This is an anagram for "FIRST MENTION". Wynn at unfiction.com forums found the correct letter sequence before me (I had poorly aligned some letters which led me astray). When Googled with "Yo-Yo" gives you a hit with this sentence "however the first mention of the yo-yo was in Greece in 500 BC." Leading logically to the solution. I'd consider that one cleared up now.

Ok, rather than just going with the anagram solution, I think it's possible that there is a mistake in the yo-yo trick diagrams. Google led me to the discovery that hieroglyphs can be read right to left or left to right. The direction that animals are facing gives you the orientation. In the picture the bird is facing left indicating it should be read from right to left. Taking the intersection of letters from each puzzle and replacing the diagrams with the letters they contribute we get ...

T S MI I F

N OT R N E

that first line read right to left looks an awful lot like "FIRST" but the blank spot should be on the top row instead of the bottom. If you make that change, and move the middle to the first position then the letters fall out in the order that you encounter them in the phrase "FIRST MENTION" ...

T S R I F

N OT N E MI

Perhaps I'm just seeing patterns that aren't there though.

Don't flame me for this post. If you recall the comparisons I made between Loki and Microsoft on Saturday, I believe this is the direction to go.

As I continue to research this angle, there is one specific geographic location that relates to several of the puzzles, video clues, Loki and Microsoft.

The challenge is this. Even if I am on the right track and figure out the location, I still don't know who Loki is or if she even exists as a real person.

Also, I have not figured out how or where to submit the answer. Maybe that will be revealed when her "question" is asked or....maybe I'm not on the right track after all.

I'll say this. If I am on the right track, the "murmuring rock" clue relates to more than just her name.

Try to send her an email to her microsoft.com address, I sent a couple and if you don't do it

too often you always get a response, so far I've been getting the "Geting warmer" one.

I like to use the Wayback Machine to check sites to determine if they are out of game or not. ;)

If you check the WayBack pages the author is David O. Reed. The MIT professor is David P. Reed.

A really large coincidence, but another nail in the coffin.

Good grief !! that's a great discovery. But I bet that given the domain name most probably the e42

explored this and found the connection interesting to get us digging more when Dr. Reed's group is

viral communications.

Now I wonder if this poor guy David O. Read may be saying "why the heck I'm getting so much spam

about this damn game ???"

Wow, great job !!

    • DXVK generally performs better on Linux (using Wine/Proton) than on Windows. Because Linux utilizes highly optimized, open-source Vulkan drivers (like RADV/ACO) that were specifically built for AMD Radeon hardware, the translation of Direct3D 9/11 to Vulkan is highly efficient. But if you take the trouble to watch my video, you can see that there are also advantages for Nvidia users. You see that I run Assassin's Creed Odyssey on 4GB RAM and on an i3-3240. What do you think are the minimum system requirements for windows11? For CPU-based rendering, Linux is generally faster than windows11 by about 15% due to lighter background overhead and efficient kernel scheduling.
