I agree...here is what I found

Wachs Steam engine

http://www.wachsco.com/company/index.htm

Interesting reading, it's a steam engine, perhaps these guys took a picture of the Wachs engine

intending to point to J. Watts but obviously the picture and the JW don't match.

Then the poor guy with the hydraulic ram is out of the game :-(, and Watts stays, case closed ...

e42 guys when the game is over it will be nice if you provide some clue about the selection of

pictures, because with this one and the one of the telegraph we have two that seem to be

incorrect.

Cheers

It's George Stevenson, inventor of the locomotive.

EW = Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin 1794

HD = Humphrey Davy - Demonstrated electric lamp to the Royal Society - 1806

JW = James Watt - Improved steam engine - 1763

BF = Benjamin Franklin - Pointed light rod conductor - 1752

GLL = George Louis Lesage - Used a single wire system to telegraph a message - 1774

LP = Louis pasteur - Process of sterilizing milk - 1862

GS = Glenn T. Seaborg - Synthesis and isolation of the radioactive element plutonium - 1941

GM = Guglielmo Marconi - Radio - 1901

AGB = Alexander Graham Bell - Phonophone - 1880

CM = Cyrus McCormick - Inventor the Reaper - 1809

TE = Thomas Edison - Invented phonograph - 1877

looks like gs = George Stephenson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Stephenson so maybe that leaves the the jw still up for grabs

since we see a steam locomotive it looks like it is watts..

BUT, the Stephenson Rocket, the first "modern" locomotive, was built in 1829: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephenson's_Rocket

so which is it?

i tried putting the initials in chronological order of when the inventor invented the device.

BF (1752)

JW (1763)

GLL (1774)

HD (1806)

CM (1809)

GS (1814)

LP (1862)

TE (1877)

AGB (1880)

GM (1901)

but when i put the initials in the answer box in that order with only a space between each, i had no luck.

Edit: forgot one. going to include it and see if i can work something out. : \

All in order (and with John Whitehurst for JW):

JW = John Whitehurst - Pulsation Engine (hydraulic pump) - 1722

BF = Benjamin Franklin - Pointed light rod conductor - 1752

GLL = George Louis Lesage - Used a single wire system to telegraph a message - 1774

EW = Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin 1794

HD = Humphrey Davy - Demonstrated electric lamp to the Royal Society - 1806

CM = Cyrus McCormick - Inventor the Reaper - 1809

GS = George Stephenson - modern locomotive - 1814/1829

LP = Louis pasteur - Process of sterilizing milk - 1862

TE = Thomas Edison - Invented phonograph - 1877

AGB = Alexander Graham Bell - Phonophone - 1880

Try replacing JW with 1722 for pulsation engine by John Whitehurst

    • "This transition will take several years so we shouldn't bother doing it at all" is a naive take. This is completely normal for all specifications that cross-cut software, hardware and multiple industries. Look at the PCI specification for another example, consumers barely have PCI-E 5 yet PCI-SIG is working on PCI-E 8. AV2 will take multiple years to get adoption and even then, even a decade from now people will still have older hardware that doesn't support it. That's fine, because the savings still add up as newer devices add the hardware to deal with it. The goal is never to get 100% on the new spec overnight, but to gradually adopt it.
