I wanted to see if Vista was compatible with my laptop even though it said vista capable and I was quite disappointed to see that my sound card has no drivers just yet. (Conexant AC 97). I have searched high and low for the drivers, but am getting a mixed consensus about it. So far, 64 bit drivers are in line but not 32bit. :(

I checked with HP and they said they are working on it, but my guess is not any time soon. I reminded them that Public release is next week. They acknowledged it. As my laptop is a cheap Compaq V5000, I may have to wait until they get an appropriate driver for it then.

To make matters worse, I have one of the newer Express card slots which is smaller than the PCMCIA standard. No sound cards just yet for that at least in an affordable range.

As I get my system prepared, does anyone know of any known beta or gold drivers for this sound card yet?

You will be waiting a LIFETIME for the Drivers from HP/Compaq..

I'm still waiting for Win XP Pro x64 drivers from HP/Compaq when I got my X64 Notebook R3000Z

Sum may say well use Usermoded drivers.. I can But thats NOT the point.. They Pont is they made this laptop and put a X64 CPU in it so I Expect them to make the Drivers and I dont want any excuses as to why there are no Win XP Pro x64 drivers..

They want to make the stuff and then sell the stuff but when it comes to Support for there stuff you will NEVER get it..

I'm not talking about the CHEAP A** MS Update drivers.. I'm talking about the REAL drivers..

Hell I don't evan get the Cheap A** MS Update X64 Divers for my Notebook..

BTW the drivers I'm Talking about is for x64 drivers for Win XP Pro.. This is how SLOW HP/Compaq is when it comes to Supporting there Products

I have an old Presario 2500 running Vista and the current sound card drivers (even from WU) make my computer freeze when sound is played. Kinda sucks, but that's why I have a desktop as well. I clicked on this thread hoping there were new drivers :(

OK, this is how to do it.

I did some more digging and found out that you have to go to HP's site and hit the driver download section for the laptop which is the Presario V5000 CTO notebook. You have to download the XP drivers for the sound instead. If you try to let it install by itself and it will error out and fail. You need to do it the old fashioned route and install it via the device driver and point to the folder, and it should work fine.

So far, the results have been promising and people are getting sound without any problems.

When I get Vista from the powertogether program, I will try it for myself and see if it works on this end too. :)

Doing this makes the driver install, but it just says "Device cannot start, code 10", and I still have no sound =(
