They'll probably start on it after longhorn server is out, since that is also tied into Vista SP1, with those out of the way, they could have a small team working on XP SP3 while the main Windows Team, which is new from what I read, will start work on Vienna.

So maybe by this time 2008 we'll start to get some more info on it.

Not gonna bother saying it's fake since pretty much everyone already established the fact already...

But that build identifier is laughable. First, it'd be in the lower right corner, not above the dock or whatever that thing is. Second, I don't think Microsoft has trademarked the "Windows Seven" name. We don't even know it that is going to be the final name yet. Third, this early in whatever development is going on, the build probably will not carry the "Evaluation copy" tag, but the "For testing purposes only" one.

We can look 2 cases... it is a fake or it isn't a fake xP

If it is fake, as it is probaly, too bad for the author of the thread :p

If it isn't, come on, Longhorn started purple. That's right, the taskbar was purple. So, this preview isn't big thing, as they may change everything eventually.

It's not too bad, hes a worthless liar, considering he claims to get it straight from a MS site... lame.

Work hasn't started designing the "next version of Windows".

Not true - work HAS started - they have selected who is going to head up the UI development side.

It's the lady (I forget her name) who is responsible for the Office2007 ribbon roll-out. Microsoft have put her in-charge of the next UI.

Heck, there was even a news article here on Neowin about it.

Lets face it, the ribbon idea is what's going to be used more in the next version, but this will probably just replace menus and any left side task links like in XP and Vista. One place the ribbon UI will be a big help would be in control panel imo.

That aside, I can't see them changing the start menu and making it ribbon like, that is sorta a hard thing to picture at this point. Plus I don't see the taskbar being dropped, though I'd like it to be changed into something new, or replaced totally.

I'm sure that the sidebar will be updated and used way more then just a gadget holder, maybe the original idea they had from before the restart on Vista (aka old 4000 builds). In those the sidebar could do way more and even totally replace your taskbar.

That's not work designing Windows. That's administrative work.

And she is not going to become the supreme ruler in the UX-group. She's simply going to take part in the Windows design process.

Q: With Julie Larson-Green joining the Windows design team, how does that affect your position? How does it affect the design group?

Tjeerd: I have worked for years with many of the people who recently joined the Windows organization from the Office team. Many of them are friends of mine, so for me, this is a bit of a reunion.

Our team will continue to work with all the product team and various disciplines in the Windows User Experience organization and related product efforts to create a great user experience across all those pieces end to end. The vision for user interface models, innovation and ‘successful solutions’ is the same for all of us.

The design group itself is now even bigger than before and carries a broader set of responsibilities. There are a lot of opportunities for all the designers and user researchers in our team to have impact on many important product efforts, both short and longer term.

LOL

Either way: Work has started, however prelinimary.

So is Apple and from a company called Xerox.
The first successful commercial GUI product was the Apple Macintosh, which was heavily inspired by PARC's work; Xerox was given Apple stock in exchange for engineer visits and an understanding that Apple would create a GUI product.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xerox_PARC

^^ So basically it's like this, Xerox demoed the GUI/Mouse setup, Apple at the time couldn't do anything better then the IIe, so hey, if you can't beat them, buy them! Give them so shares, which is how most takeovers/buyouts happen now anyways, and you get access to use their ideas.

How is this any different from MS going out and buying an OS and calling it DOS? Yet people seem to jump all over that and say "MS didn't make it! they copied it!".

Talk about double standards.

Talk about double standards.

Meaning it's NOT theft. No stealing involved.

^^ I never said it was stealing, I'm pointing out the double standard by which people look at Apple and MS, they both did the same thing in when it came to the UI for the Lisa, and MS's DOS. Yet people rip on MS for stealing.

Both companies done it. Both companies do it. Both companies will continue to do it. They take the approach of taking the idea and using it until someone complains about it and then come to an agreement over it. Apple did it to Xerox. MS did it to Apple. Apple did it to Cisco. MS did it to Digital Research (blatant piracy on that one).

OT:

The pic looks nasty and is a big fake. You don't have to analyze the jpeg artifacts or anything else to know that it's way too early for anything to be shown from MS.

    • Ocenaudio 3.19.3 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display.
