They'll probably start on it after longhorn server is out, since that is also tied into Vista SP1, with those out of the way, they could have a small team working on XP SP3 while the main Windows Team, which is new from what I read, will start work on Vienna.

So maybe by this time 2008 we'll start to get some more info on it.

Not gonna bother saying it's fake since pretty much everyone already established the fact already...

But that build identifier is laughable. First, it'd be in the lower right corner, not above the dock or whatever that thing is. Second, I don't think Microsoft has trademarked the "Windows Seven" name. We don't even know it that is going to be the final name yet. Third, this early in whatever development is going on, the build probably will not carry the "Evaluation copy" tag, but the "For testing purposes only" one.

We can look 2 cases... it is a fake or it isn't a fake xP

If it is fake, as it is probaly, too bad for the author of the thread :p

If it isn't, come on, Longhorn started purple. That's right, the taskbar was purple. So, this preview isn't big thing, as they may change everything eventually.

It's not too bad, hes a worthless liar, considering he claims to get it straight from a MS site... lame.

Work hasn't started designing the "next version of Windows".

Not true - work HAS started - they have selected who is going to head up the UI development side.

It's the lady (I forget her name) who is responsible for the Office2007 ribbon roll-out. Microsoft have put her in-charge of the next UI.

Heck, there was even a news article here on Neowin about it.

Lets face it, the ribbon idea is what's going to be used more in the next version, but this will probably just replace menus and any left side task links like in XP and Vista. One place the ribbon UI will be a big help would be in control panel imo.

That aside, I can't see them changing the start menu and making it ribbon like, that is sorta a hard thing to picture at this point. Plus I don't see the taskbar being dropped, though I'd like it to be changed into something new, or replaced totally.

I'm sure that the sidebar will be updated and used way more then just a gadget holder, maybe the original idea they had from before the restart on Vista (aka old 4000 builds). In those the sidebar could do way more and even totally replace your taskbar.

That's not work designing Windows. That's administrative work.

And she is not going to become the supreme ruler in the UX-group. She's simply going to take part in the Windows design process.

Q: With Julie Larson-Green joining the Windows design team, how does that affect your position? How does it affect the design group?

Tjeerd: I have worked for years with many of the people who recently joined the Windows organization from the Office team. Many of them are friends of mine, so for me, this is a bit of a reunion.

Our team will continue to work with all the product team and various disciplines in the Windows User Experience organization and related product efforts to create a great user experience across all those pieces end to end. The vision for user interface models, innovation and ‘successful solutions’ is the same for all of us.

The design group itself is now even bigger than before and carries a broader set of responsibilities. There are a lot of opportunities for all the designers and user researchers in our team to have impact on many important product efforts, both short and longer term.

LOL

Either way: Work has started, however prelinimary.

So is Apple and from a company called Xerox.
The first successful commercial GUI product was the Apple Macintosh, which was heavily inspired by PARC's work; Xerox was given Apple stock in exchange for engineer visits and an understanding that Apple would create a GUI product.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xerox_PARC

^^ So basically it's like this, Xerox demoed the GUI/Mouse setup, Apple at the time couldn't do anything better then the IIe, so hey, if you can't beat them, buy them! Give them so shares, which is how most takeovers/buyouts happen now anyways, and you get access to use their ideas.

How is this any different from MS going out and buying an OS and calling it DOS? Yet people seem to jump all over that and say "MS didn't make it! they copied it!".

Talk about double standards.

Talk about double standards.

Meaning it's NOT theft. No stealing involved.

^^ I never said it was stealing, I'm pointing out the double standard by which people look at Apple and MS, they both did the same thing in when it came to the UI for the Lisa, and MS's DOS. Yet people rip on MS for stealing.

Both companies done it. Both companies do it. Both companies will continue to do it. They take the approach of taking the idea and using it until someone complains about it and then come to an agreement over it. Apple did it to Xerox. MS did it to Apple. Apple did it to Cisco. MS did it to Digital Research (blatant piracy on that one).

OT:

The pic looks nasty and is a big fake. You don't have to analyze the jpeg artifacts or anything else to know that it's way too early for anything to be shown from MS.

    • So how did you solve the problem? Disabling Secure Boot isn’t a solution.
    • Another devilish issue surrounding these certificates is what can happen with old, unsuspecting PCs that nevertheless have Secure Boot enabled. In my case, it was a Dell with a 3rd-gen Core chip (so about 13 years old). As of the last few weeks, it was suddenly BSOD'g within about 5 minutes of booting. Turns out it was because of MS's "Secure-Boot-Update" scheduled task, which is scheduled to run 5 minutes after login. It's explained in gory detail here (this is not my post, but it was where I found the answer), but the short version is that this legacy system would need fairly elaborate, manual certificate intervention since MS's automatic cert update method cannot work. How to do that is linked late in the thread. https://www.bleepingcomputer.c...od-caused-by-scheduled-task Secure Boot wasn't at all important for this particular PC, so I disabled it to be done with the problem.

In addition, new settings in Gaming & Performance introduce AI taskbar pin toggles, options to remove AI apps, and controls for AI services and scheduled tasks, allowing users to better manage how AI components run in the background and appear in the system. For advanced users and IT professionals, Winhance integrates WIMUtil, a tool for creating custom Windows installation ISOs with automated configuration. You can generate autounattend.xml files, inject drivers, and apply your chosen Winhance settings automatically during installation. Most changes are non-destructive and reversible, with clear explanations in the GUI. Winhance 26.06.12 changelog: Features Builder Mode — build a Winhance config file or autounattend.xml without changing anything on the PC you're sitting at. Flip the new mode switcher to Builder, set everything the way you want it, and save the result as a Winhance config or an autounattend file ready for deployment on other machines. Sponsors & Supporters page — the exit donation dialog is gone. In its place, an in-app page (heart icon or the More menu) recognizes the businesses and individual supporters who keep Winhance free. It works offline and is fully localized. Change History — Winhance now keeps a receipt of everything it does. ChangeHistory.txt records every setting change (before and after values) and every app install or removal, with clear headers for config imports and bulk actions. Open it from the More menu. Hebrew language support — Winhance is now available in 29 languages. New Explorer customizations: desktop icon visibility toggles, This PC folder visibility, an icon cache size setting, and automatic thumbnail cache cleanup. New "All apps view" setting for the redesigned Windows 11 Start menu, and the Windows 11 system tray icons setting is now a dropdown with more control. App-local UI zoom — press Ctrl +/-/0 or use Ctrl+MouseWheel to scale the whole app, just like a browser. New External Apps: EA app, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, Rockstar Games Launcher, PowerShell, and Helium Browser. Bug Fixes Layouts no longer clip when the Windows text size slider is set above 100%. Accessibility: Narrator now announces setting names on toggles and dropdowns, previously unlabeled buttons are labeled, and progress updates are announced. Silent updates now respect your custom install location instead of reverting to the default. Cancel in Review Mode no longer clears your app selections. OneNote is now detected correctly for Win32 Click-to-Run installs. Clean Start Menu applies more reliably by also writing the group policy path. WinGet errors are no longer silent — error details now show in the terminal output. Fixed a startup crash on older Windows builds caused by a .NET runtime regression. Config import now converts power setting values correctly and no longer re-applies an already-active power plan. Improvements App icons load noticeably faster and cover almost everything now, including legacy capabilities and optional features — they come from a dedicated, checksum-validated icon repository and are fetched in parallel. Software & Apps polish: per-icon tooltips, extra table columns, an app sort dropdown, relocated search, and a cleaner compact view. A warning now appears when the Connected Devices Platform Service is set to Manual or Disabled, since some Windows features depend on it.
