true, look at the first bulids of vista. the 3xxx bulids. They had the same look and fell as XP.

Many sources have said that Windows Seven will be built from the ground up, a new thing, while other sources say its not going to be like Windows Vista, wanna know something, they said that about Windows XP and about all the other versions too. I believe it will be built from the ground up, its just time, who wants files, icons, anything, from like 1995? Now if it was completely new, then its good... I gotta say that Windows Vista is awesome, so customizable, but when it comes to technology, Mac OS X wins because of its reliability, simplicity, and because you don't just find old icons lying around (well I didn't) and it just screams built from the ground up, but it isn't. The simplicity in Mac OS X comes from the reliable platform, newbies use Macs for MySpace and then it comes just people wanting work done, they use them for productivity, they aren't the people wanting to go into the computer, its usually an iMac, and, well, how do you open it, so you gotta send it in and thats not fun. Now there are computers that are PCs that are designed for simplicity

No version of Windows will be completely built from the ground up. Often they will start with a clean slate, but that slate is usually the kernel (and stacks - audio, network, video) from the previous release.

Microsoft's not going to do away with hundred billion dollars of research just so they don't have any old icons in the new Windows only because you, me and a few people in the world cares.

Well with vista all the (and stacks - audio, network, video) have been built from the ground up and a large amount of the 2k3 kernel has been revamped and undergone many changes. Windows 7 will be based on the current under the hood changes vista has and all the new Tools Microsoft has. the only real differences is that when vienna is out the under the hood stuff running it will be enhanced versions of what we have now in vista.

wow i remember this thread. we're all still talking about the pic on page 1 right?

I think it's real, except the dock looking thing probably won't magnify like on OS X. The icons are going to animate when you mouse over them. I JEST I JEST!

I'd like for Windows 7 to include an integration for Soapbox/WLM/Spaces/live.com right on the desktop! That would take care of your news, connectivity, networking and conversation needs! :)

Not always...

Any hypothetical builds at this point would probably look the same anyway.

Exactly, look at Vista once XP was done. It had the same look.

I guess MS builds on the current OS and edits certain things, and revamps.

While some things are completely re-rewritten and added.

I can't beleave this topic is still going. It's fake guys, it's way too early for MS to be working on the next UI for Windows. They have to finish Longhorn Server, SP1 for Vista, SP3 for XP, and then, when we're deep into beta 2 or 3 of the next Windows version will they spring a new UI on us. Vistas final UI didn't show up until late in the Beta/CTP program.

i think its fake.

otherwise, all the folks at microsoft must be... stupid. i mean... if thats real and they really are about to do this that way... dont they see that EVERYONE of the mac community will hate microsoft even more and the press will bash them for that obvious leaking?

and because i dont think the folks at microsoft are stupid (listen up, although im a mac faboy i dont say they are stupid!! ;) ) i believe its fake.

Why anyone would think this is real is beyond me.

Of course it's FAKE! Someone has an overactive imagination. Virtually every previous version of Windows when it's been in development has looked exactly like the previous one when in development mere months after the previous one has been released (if it's being coded at all). The UI only changes significantly a few years later.

Move along, nothing to see here.

 why do you all keep posting in here isnt 60 odd posts saying fake good enough? Until Microsoft release or leak some shots of the OS let it be.

Either way Vienna's first build will be on longhorn/vista's kernal and theme etc soooo.

Can't be, it's too soon after Vista - They can't seriously be starting another OS already ? Can they ?

Windows Seven was likely being created while Vista was wrapping up. OS' are started long before they are released to the public, so I don't doubt for a second MS is working on the next Windows OS. However I don't think they will be working as hard on it as they will in a few years. Also they need to wait for OSX Leopard to drop before they have any new features to add. ;)

once more we see a modified os kernal to look just like os x. I know microsoft has some big plans for Vienna but not to copy the "dock", least I hope not...

It's kernel with an e. And that's not a kernel, it's a GUI. The kernel is the raw OS underneath all that that provides basic functions that actually tell the computer how to function, an example of which would be memory management.

let see, more filesystem support, ext3 and reiserfs for example. A boot loader that recognise other os. And the complete inability to install and/or use any software not package in a correcly build msi (aldo that's more for work, i'm so gonna kill adobe some days...)

Third party filesystem support will never happen. Bootloader might happen, but I doubt it's a priority. And the msi thing will never happen because that would break compatibility with 99% of what's out there, including current software.
