I made a program to add games to Game Explorer, it is possible to add, edit and delete information about games from Game Explorer.

You can drag a file into the game window or icon Game Explorer Manager, but will be asked to add the game.

Download

Beta 3

- Make buttons for editing genre, information about the developer and publisher.

- Add support png in the covers.

- Fixed some bugs.

- Fixed bug while editing games with cover.

New features for Beta 2.08 include:

* Code to delete games from the VGE has been updated to remove potential problems

* Games that were not added to the VGE properly (ie - they didn't overwrite an existing game) are detected and fixed before they are loaded - allowing you to edit the BoxArt for these games.

* Abilty to view and edit Publisher information now added.

This particular release hasn't yet been tested by anyone else yet besides myself - so you might just find a bug or two that needs fixing.

If you could test the above features imparticularly for faults that would be great - let me know what your results are with it.

If you would like to see any other features added to VGEE - now is the time to ask - as the app is almost complete.

Regards,

Ryan R

Here is my game explorer. I used Ryan's program and regedit to edit most of my stuff. Hated those box art, so I recreated all the games boxes which fits the 256x256 quota.

Btw Ryan, can you add a publisher section. The developer's overwrites the existing publisher.

wow...dude i would die to get a VGE like that

Hi duke

Am I the only person having probs with your app, or are you still coding the main parts of it?

When I click on a game (apart from the standard Windows Games) - then only items shown are the 'Game name' and 'Game Folder'. Everything else remains blank.

PS - try and keep the posts a bit smaller by not repeating yourself everytime :)

Look forward to helping in testing your app - keep up the good work.

The latest version of VGEE is still Beta 2.08b

Perhaps the problem in the extract covers, I would try to solve the problem.

I would be happy not to repeat the posts, but unfortunately there was not edit, and delete their messages.

I am glad to accept any assistance in the testing.

I was just wondering, in the startmenu there is an option to show the game button as a link or menu... now, I dont really mind going to the startmenu all the time using the games button as a menu... but I would love to have the MENU in my toolbar if possible... I just cant figure out where to point it...

maybe it is a function of the startmenu to populate and make a list? but I cant understand why MS would code that into the startmenu...

You can actually drag the Games shortcut in the start menu onto the desktop or anywhere else to create a shortcut or what I did was, because I use ObjectDock, I dragged it onto there to make a link so I don't have to always go back to the start menu to access the VGE.

@Ryan R: Would it be possible at all for VGEE to generate proper GUID's for games so that you wouldn't need to recreate a game for it to edit by loading a legacy one that Vista will download info for? Did your experiments with the DX SDK and the GDF maker yield any results? :/

But otherwise excellent work on what you have done so far! ;)

I'm sure I already replied to this a few days ago - but checkin now it's not here :|

My experiments with the SDK led me to see that creating GDFs on the fly would be a real pain - I haven't even successfully created and added one manually, the help menu and online materials aren't all that helpful.

As long as the overwritten game get's put back into the VGE, then the user shouldn't notice a diference in methods.

I can help to generate GDF.dll on fly.

  • 2 weeks later...

There is NO WAY for you to add/edit ESRB ratings.

My attempts to change the product version failed - if you find a method that works I'll add it to the app.

The icon can be changed manually if you wanted to - but I don't see the purpose of that as it's invisible after you add boxart.

    • Google are hyprocrites for signing this. They have been pulling the same dirty tactics as Microsoft, only they do it on Android and ChromeOS.
    • In some countries the law has forced Microsoft to display a menu on a fresh install of Windows which asks which web browser you want and it will install that browser. This doesn't add any bloat to Windows. It simply an additional step when setting up a new PC.
    • Chrome is also a first party browser on Android and ChromeOS. And on those systems, Google is pulling the same dirty tactics as Microsoft does on Windows.
    • Unofficial script lets you install unreleased Windows 11 features without Microsoft Account by Sayan Sen Microsoft has been steadily evolving the Windows Insider Program over the years, introducing new channels and testing paths that allow enthusiasts to experience upcoming and yet-to-be-released Windows features (some interesting hidden ones too) before they reach the public. However, one long-standing requirement has remained largely unchanged as users are generally expected to enroll in the Program and with a Microsoft account. That's where a third-party tool called "OfflineInsiderEnroll" can help. OfflineInsiderEnroll is said to be a lightweight script that enables access to Windows Insider Program builds on systems that are not signed in with a Microsoft account. Essentially the tool configures the necessary Insider settings locally and hence allows users to select and switch between available preview channels while continuing to receive builds through the normal Windows Update channel. If you are wondering how it manages to do so, it is made possible by a Registry value known as TestFlags. When configured to"0x20", Windows stops communicating with Microsoft's online Insider enrollment services thus preventing locally configured Insider settings from being overwritten. This allows the script to apply its own channel configuration directly through the Registry as Windows Update does not verify whether a device has been officially enrolled in the Insider Program or not. Previously the utility has had already supported the traditional Insider branches including Dev, Beta, and Release Preview. However following Microsoft’s recent restructuring of its preview channels, the script has now been updated. The latest OfflineInsiderEnroll version, 2.6.6, adds support for the newly introduced Insider channel lineup. As such, users can now choose from several Experimental channels in addition to Beta and Release Preview options. The update also retains tools for refreshing the Insider cache, resetting Insider settings, and completely stopping Insider enrollment when needed. Keep in mind though that will need elevated privileges when running the script (run as Admin). You can get the latest version of OfflineInsiderEnroll from this page on its official GitHub repo.
